jangofet
Some sort of lean-to or something like a stationary umbrella would be cool. It should prevent a crockpot getting wet, and also keep the player dry (downside is that once you move away from it, you start getting wet again) and *slightly* cools down the player during summer with its shade. It may seem OP, but I suggest it being very flammable and a recipe along the lines of 6 planks, 6 sticks, and 2 reeds.
Strangerdanger101
Unless you set wildfires to none or have some ice flingomatics of doom i see it burning down very fast. As for the rain part, it might work.

brummbar7
I think you could elevate this idea to the next level, and make it use the Moose feather for the 'roof'. It could provide good shade and wetness protection, and maybe even prevent one or two structures nearby from being able to spontaneously combust, though still being able to itself.
