illunar
Hello everyone!Have been playing Don't starve for several days.Died three-four times, by now at day 40 with a couple of effigies, full map explored (only 4 nests, 3 mandrakes). Here are some observations, maybe somebody has same thoughts:1) While cooking Wilson stays too close to fireplace, quite often I misclick and he eats raw food instead of cooking it.2) Sound of planting seeds is way to similar to the sound of eating food.3) Damn gobbler ate my mandrake)) Don't know, but if it would happen to the last mandrake on the map this can be very frustrating.4) During battle instead of hitting the hound that is right next to him Wilson keeps collecting stuff on the ground. Maybe if there is an enemy in the close proximity (2-4 wilsons), spacebar should have priority for attacking?5) Imo there are way too many repetitive actions - to survive you should keep collecting the same resourses and at some point this becomes very annoing.6) All ponds look the same, some variation if form is appreciated.7) I would love more effective way of charcoal production: creating pile of wooden logs, then cover with layer of grass and soil. Like on youtube.General thoughts:Crockpot mechanics is awesome! As for me it was the most fun trying to cook a new dish. Needs more recipes.Maybe you should add possibility to aquire sheets of paper with recipes from graves\other places. With unique recipes for each generated map and multiple hard-to-aquire ingredients so the simple enumeration is ineffective. Or with a certain order of adding ingredients.Don't really like the idea of permadeath in the dark. Most players would just stay by the fireplace and wait until the dawn. There should be more activities at night in the midgame. Collect some flowers that bloom only at night, hunting creatures that come out only at night. I suppose real creatures that hunt you in the dark are better that just accidental death with no reason for it when your torch comes out. There are many suggestions how to make the game more difficult... Don't you think game should be more interesting, not essentialy difficult? Instead of making more difficult to collect another 100 of grass, maybe adding something completely new would be more entertaining. A Bad Feeling
Hello there!Welcome to the forums.First, I recommend you to take a look at this thread, where Kevin talked about his plans and ideas for Don't Starve, the difficulty and repetitiveness and so on.Although I can't link any example for you now, I've seen threads about the spacebar function and similar requests.Sometimes I also misclick and eat raw food instead of cooking it. Maybe it can be fixed by not letting you eat when you are too close from the fire?I like and agree with the pond form suggestion. It's far from being a priority, tough.About the night, players can choose whether they stick by a fireplace or get a torch/miner's hat and explore. I agree there should be rewards for exploring while it is dark, but note that the night time is also used by players to organize, cook and get ready for the next day. mobius187
1) While cooking Wilson stays too close to fireplace, quite often I misclick and he eats raw food instead of cooking it.Mis-clicks happen from time to time. For example, I've also sometimes eaten seeds instead of planting them. Usually you just need to park your character in the best spot to get the job done. Try approaching from the far side of the fire, so it's below you.2) Sound of planting seeds is way to similar to the sound of eating food.It doesn't bother me that much, but yeah, amybe they could change the sound...3) Damn gobbler ate my mandrake)) Don't know, but if it would happen to the last mandrake on the map this can be very frustrating. The Gobbler is a bastard. You really need to chase him off the moment he appears. Although yeah, I do find it odd that it eats the Mandrake... and then doesn't fall asleep.4) During battle instead of hitting the hound that is right next to him Wilson keeps collecting stuff on the ground. Maybe if there is an enemy in the close proximity (2-4 wilsons), spacebar should have priority for attacking? Not sure, but other forum members have made similar suggestions about giving creatires priority when clicking, so if the overlap the "items" are always dropped behind them. In that way you would first need to kill every creature in that spot before reaching/clicking the dropped items.5) Imo there are way too many repetitive actions - to survive you should keep collecting the same resourses and at some point this becomes very annoing.Meh. It makes me think of real survival. Of course as more content is added to the game there will be more to strive towards rather than repeating the same cycle over and over again.6) All ponds look the same, some variation if form is appreciated. In another thread I made a similar request/suggestion, that ponds should be 200% larger. Also, that they shouldn't just be located in swamps.7) I would love more effective way of charcoal production: creating pile of wooden logs, then cover with layer of grass and soil. Like on youtube.Another user suggested that a new invention, a charcoal kiln of some kind, could be used to transform logs into charcoal. As for me it was the most fun trying to cook a new dish. Needs more recipes. They will keep adding more, and they also plan to revamp the food created by the crock pot so that it will stack. Right now they don't stack because certain variables create different foods with the same name. For example, you can actually create several types of meaty stew depending on the meat-to-filler ratio you use (1:3, 2:2, 3:1) and the amount of meat increases how much of your hunger is satiated. But since they are intrinsically different they cannot stack. The Devs are thinking to use, maybe, descriptive adjectives before the food to tell how well you made it, and then allow you to stack them accordingly with other meals of the same quality.Maybe you should add possibility to aquire sheets of paper with recipes from graves\other places. With unique recipes for each generated map and multiple hard-to-aquire ingredients so the simple enumeration is ineffective. Or with a certain order of adding ingredients. But you can already acquire every recipe... through the forum/web. The Devs know you can't keep these secret as there are players dedicated to uncovering every recipe, so they just let the players try things out for themselves. In fact, that's how the whole game works. No tutorial, no hints.Don't really like the idea of permadeath in the dark. Most players would just stay by the fireplace and wait until the dawn. There should be more activities at night in the midgame. Collect some flowers that bloom only at night, hunting creatures that come out only at night. I suppose real creatures that hunt you in the dark are better that just accidental death with no reason for it when your torch comes out.Death is a part of life... and it's what add a thrill to the game. I know I've run for my life more than once so far because my last torch was burning low and I needed to get back to my firepit in time. Besides, there are lots of light source options for you: torches, miner's hats, pumpkin lantern, and fireflies. Not to mention Willow keeps setting fires all on her own...Feel free to keep making suggestions. watkinsgamer
if you find that your character is doing the wrong actions try using q or e to rotate the screen. this can bee helpfull when fighting or using a fire as well as planting. Jonah Hollow
Do you think an in game cook book could work? Keeping track of all the previously made crock pot items. It would reset on Death/New World, and it would cost some kind of material to build it.
