A werepig rant..And a question at the end

Recommended Posts

So, I'm having no issue surviving, it's my 4th or 5th winter, I've got good supplies going and come summer I'm heading to the caves for the first time..Probably not a good idea considering worms, but still.. ANYWAY! I have a rant on werepigs (As given in the title)...I awoke from a restful sleep in my tent, come out, have some honey ham that I was saving in my icebox...Go down to check on my new fenced off farm section that I was making and HOLY SNAPPING TEMPER! There is about 6 werepigs from the pig village a screen or so away wrecking the ever loving walliness out of my hard to make and repair stone walls!

I could only kill one or two of them before I just had to sit back and wait (while they destroyed my walls) until they turned back to the stupid oblivious slobbery morons they were before...

Now for the question..Why is it that werepigs autoaim for walls? Why hasn't this happened on previous full moons? And why are stone walls so hard to repair to a normal state? I don't have enough stone in my world to deal with this crap :p

Oh, and they killed Chester :( Bastardy pigs...

Sorry about your walls. For me to prevent some catastrophe happening anywhere or to me, I save a lot. If something bad happens BAM i just immediately exit the game and load the world back up so i don't have to deal with the problem or i can prepare for it. Sometimes, I forget to save then i actually have to deal with the hardships but it's part of the game. About the walls now, I never really upgrade walls to the max cause i remember stone is not renewable which is sad.

For some reason i read "weeping" in the title, was confused for a sec haha

Traps are your friend, try to avoid pig towns around the full moon

I would assume they target the walls since they can't break any other objects and there was no mobs or yourself to attack instead.

However I'm still a bit Wtf with them being werepigs the day after the full moon, I've only encountered it once and luckily it was just 2 of them out of the village that hadn't reverted. If I remember correctly it was my second summer that happened (D41-42)

I'm not sure if it's a bug that they stay in werepig form the following day or they have a predetermined time in which they are werepigs regardless of day/night cycle. That'd be something I'd be interested in knowing if anyone has the answer? :-)

-Also, I need to ask... what's the stone walls for? Beefalo den or?

I don't even make stone walls anymore xD too much of a waste

On a tangent - Even if your stone walls break, you can hammer the broken ones to get one rock back. You can then make more walls for the price of 1 rock per wall. Level 2 walls are basically infinite if you have the rocks to spare for a hammer. "fixing" the walls is horrendously inefficient and I'd only suggest doing it to corner pieces or something for aesthetic reasons.

1. Stone actually is a renewable resource now since the introduction of caves. While there might be a limited amount of rock-based objects to mine down in the caves, rocks are a fairly common drop after an earthquake, and there's unlimited earthquakes. Even still, considering there's usually about 3 cave entrances per world, meaning 3 completely different cave systems, you shouldn't even ever get to farming earthquakes for all your rock needs anyway.

2. Unless there's some specific design purpose behind your walls, like making a kill-corridor to funnel hounds into a pit of tooth traps/bee mines or holding a koalaphant in place farm manure, they really are just for decoration. Arguments can easily be made on why they're usually not even worth the effort:

A) Walls don't really do anything for you, again unless there's some specific design purpose behind them. It's not like walls kill the hounds or the deerclops for you, they don't solve the problem/threat you're facing, not in of themselves. If anything, they merely just hinder those mobs' progress to some degree, but you don't even have to hinder them. Especially for hounds, you're just as well off running off into a field of toothtraps some distance away from your base -- just be sure you've cleared away any flammable objects around said toothtraps for obvious reasons -- and having the hounds try to path toward you as you sit pretty in the middle of them, or running into a pack of neutral/friendly mobs that can kill the hounds for you as well. Even just before a deerclops attack, it's usually better to run away from your base, get a couple screens away, and let the deerclops spawn there as opposed to him spawning right on top of the valuable objects near and around your base. For these strategies, all walls ever could possibly do is get in the way of your escape and flight toward the destination you need to be to make these work.

B) Walls don't actually protect you usually, as you've allowed an exit to leave your base. This hole in your wall allows for hostile mobs to ignore your walls and instead path around them to get to you, and if walls are actually protecting you, as in drawing the attention of hostile mobs toward them as opposed to you, well then they need to get repaired if they're not dispatched quickly. Then you can get into toothtrapping the perimeter of your walls to spare them from hostile mob attacks which begs the question why you even walled yourself off when you could of just made a massive ring of toothtraps around your base, which would actually kill threats, and allow you a free range of movement.

This is not to say that walls can't be effective or useful, they can be, but you have to have a specific design in mind. It also greatly helps if you understand how different mobs will react toward your walls before you start constructing.

My experience with were pigs seems to be if they are hunting something they won't fall asleep and therefore stayed in were form for the entire day and night after the full moon and continue to do so until they have nothing close to attack... I had my ENTIRE village become were pigs when I left a three tier tree guard in the village (my meat farming strategy) two days after the full moon cycle there they were killing spiders bees etc edging closer to my base where there are tons of things to kill :( it's happened a few times always after I leave bats or tree guards behind so it's the best plausible reason I have for the issue... course could be coincidence

I think JadedMeiji might be right :| I realised soon after posting this that I could just hammer 6 sections of wall to replace them again. :p I felt like an idiot.

@Kellyc: The walls were for my farm/crockpot area...I happened upon a HUGE rocky area and went to town, so much flint though. XD
