IMO we shouldn´t be able to ¨plant¨ new spider nests anywhere we want. Instead create another use for the eggs. Then, when you attack a spider nest, at least one spider will always get away, hide, and wait until the player has left the area. Once the player has gone a certain distance, the spider comes out of hiding and starts a new nest, in a new location, preferably somewhat close to the spiders prey (which could be something like dragonflies, or mosquitoes.. more on this in another thread coming Soon). This idea will force the player to keep searching new areas, and also areas the player has already been too. There needs to be more reasons to be in areas already explored, don´t want boredom to start once the map has been exposed completely.

What do ya think?

One of the main reasons is so that spiders aren't wiped out permanently. Then again, fire will destroy a spider nest and the egg sac as well... Personally I have no issue with being able to replant the spider nest, but it would be nice if there were another use for it.

Unfortunately this implies a lot. What if there is no place to hide? What is players get annoyed that they can't kill every spider? Also the spiders don't seem to have much of a sense of self-preservation... I've seen them attack tentacles in droves and die in droves.

In another thread we discussed ideas for how we could insert interesting events into the game to make it less predictable. One of the events that I suggested was a mass spider migration. Or simply, once in a while (say once a season, except winter) some spiders would leave their (tier 3) spider nests and and travel across the map in search of a "new home". At random, some of these spiders would then create a new (tier 1) spider nest and await for the nest to grown and eventually repeat the cycle. This would turn spiders from a simple "silk resource" to be plundered into an real infestation.

I could go with that yeah. I was just thinking of ways to take the control out of the players hands when it comes to nature. Players replanting nests shouldn´t be the only way to get new ones. Some type of migration, to greener pastures (with lots of insects etc..) would be great.

Also, have you seen that fragmented screenshot from the latest teaser trailer? There appears to be one of a giant or queen spider. While it's hard to say for sure, some forum members even suggested that it looked like there was a spider nest on her back. I can't see it, but I could imagine a spider queen tromping across the islands and laying egg sacs that become new spider nests. I'm just not sure if she appears from the very start of the game, or only after you've wiped out a certain % of spider nests (i.e. to repopulate the spiders). Personally I would prefer it if she was there from the start and is the whole cause of the spider infestion... which progressively becomes more serious/dangerous over time.

Update: Correction, a forum member suggested that because the giant spider had a spider nest on its back, maybe it only appeared when you attacked a spider nest... and then it rises up from the ground. Kind of like the treeguard.

No I haven´t seen the latest teaser, not much time today online. Soon I´ll be posting a large thread and maybe I¨ll check it out then. You broke my heart because I love the idea of a spider queen moving around the map, laying eggs to start new nests.

Honestly, that´s less interesting to me. What if you kill the giant spider, what will go around creating new nests? :(

I would love random events to be implemented into the game, especially something like the Great Spider Migration, that sounds amazing.

I really hope this "Spider Queen" isn't a spiderversion copy of the Treeguard. I hope it behaves more uniquely, and is less like a guardian like the Treeguard is. Does that makes sense?

Yup it makes sense, and I´d be one to agree.

Agreed. I don't want every resource in the game, including spiders (silk) to have their own guardian... that wouldn't be fun at all. However if the Spider Queen spawns spiders as she walks... that would certainly be neat.

As long as she doesn't attack you by default, nor the spawned spiders.

What if she IS a guardian like Optimus Pine, but instead of attacking you it just gets up, throws a couple of spiders at you and then walk away to replant herself somewhere else?

If it's a guardian, I'm gonna call mine Shelob :D
