Well I don't know, Brad Pitt, let's open it up..

OH **** IT'S TIPS!

Food Tips

  • There's a lot of stuff in the food tab. You know what the best thing is? It's the crockpot. Make it, love it, get all up on it. You put food in, better food comes out. By the late game you'll be crockpotting up tons of meals, so once you've got yourself all snug and comfortable enough that you're not worrying about dying every five seconds and you've actually got good sources of food going, get at least three crockpots up to you can make meals three times as fast.
  • The Icebox sure is shiny and awesome looking, but if you know how to manage your food supply it's ultimately useless. Seriously, if you have a good idea of how much food you need to get through whatever number of days until you restock your food supplies then this item is just a luxury. An extremely expensive luxury. (Note: This is my opinion. Technically, these are all my opinion, but this one is more opinion than the other opinions.)
  • The sucky thing about catching birds is that, unlike rabbits, you've only got a fifty-fifty shot of getting food when you kill one. Sucks, donut? It sure does, reader, it sure does. That's why you should cook the bird! Cooking a bird gets you a cooked morsel 100% of the time, all the time!

Sanity Tips

  • Green Mushrooms are THE sanity control consumable. You can lose 50 Sanity when you eat a regular one (trust me, this is a better thing than it sounds like) or raise it by 15 if you eat a cooked one. 2 cooked Green Mushrooms will be enough to bring you to a point where you're not being attacked by Lovecraftian hamsters and whatever the hell a Terrorbeak is supposed to be. Green Mushrooms are most often found in those enormous forests with tons of spider nests in them. You can get those suckers at dusk.
  • Everyone says you should be getting a Beefalo Hat for Winter (for good reason, granted) but what nobody ever talks about is the fact that the Beefalo Hat doesn't restore Sanity, whereas the Winter Hat does. The insulation isn't as pants-[LOL SWEAR WORDS]ingly awesome as Beefalo Hat but it sure ain't nothin' to sneeze at, I tell you what.

Health Tips

  • Don't get hit by stuff.

Warmth Tips

  • Light a tree on fire every once in a while. It'll give you heat, and Heat Stones will get hotter near one. Seems obvious, doesn't it?
  • Don't think you can just spend long enough near a fire to unfreeze and be on your merry way. Stay and enjoy the flames for a minute, your internal body heat takes a bit to get back up to 40 degrees Celsius.
  • This one's pretty obvious, but it feels worth bringing up. Chopping only the smallest trees and digging up the stumps will net you more logs by the time your axe breaks than if you chop and dig up the largest trees. More stumps, more logs.

Character Tips

  • "Willow is such a dumb character, once you know what you're doing she's useless!" No, you're useless, with your dumb thoughts. That immunity to fire damage has more practical uses than you think it does. Go light something big and scary on fire with a Firestaff, hit it with a spear while taking no damage at all, then get back to me.
  • Some people will try and keep Wolfgang's hunger full all the time, because this is what you're supposed to do with every character ever. Stop doin' that. It's best to keep Wolfgang's belly filled to about 180, only going into superbuffomg mode when you're about to get in a fight where you'll need to kill things faster.
  • WX-78 is so OP that even its weakness is an advantage! When it rains as night and you hold out a torch, it wears down much faster. If you're playing WX-78, put away the torch! The light given off by droplets hitting your chassis is enough to keep Charlie at bay until the rain stops.

Hey, thanks.

Didn't know about the mushrooms, or Willow being useful beyond newbie level. Is WX-78 truly considered overpowered, though? I was wondering if it was a coincidence that I've seen so many streamers using it.

Wx is overpowered, He starts out weak, but once you find the

chess biome,
he gets some pretty ridiculous stats, not to mention he can eat spoiled food, and the rain "disadvantage" actually turns out to be a advantage, especially in
A Cold Reception where its always raining and lightning is always striking

Also, 23rd, the Icebox is actually pretty useful whenever you've got something like dragonfruit seeds you need to keep for the winter, or when you just have a ton of food you want to keep.

I think i went a bit overboard with the spoilers, don't really want to spoil anything for newcomers

Ah. I probably won't go using it, then; surviving my first winter or something like that with a character considered OP wouldn't feel like as much of a truimph.

My advice is to just go with wilson until you can atleast survive your first winter, it'll let you develop strategies that don't just work with one character, and instead ones you can use while your developing strategies for other characters

Yea, i've been trying Wx out recently, i got lucky on my adv. mode world and found the chess biome quickly, so hey, i might finally get past world 1 of adventure mode!

Yeah, I've never even got past World 1. I kind of want to try Maxwell, but I'm not even in the slightest concerned about Wes.

ON Topic: Here's a top to reduce damage during night time survival with WX: Hold out on your umbrella for a few seconds, and when Charlie's about to attack, put it away so you start making light again! And then put the umbrella back up. And then when you hear Charlie, you put it away for light! And then night time... DAY TIIME!! Night tiiiime..... DAY TIME!!!

I've always thought that adventure mode was kind of pointless really. the only incentive into going there is to unlock Wes/Maxwell, and its really tedious just walking around a map for days on end to find the Things

also do you like my new signature?

Remember, you can catch frogs in traps for easy meat. This turns Cold Reception into a total breather level. Also, never take the sick wormhole when you do get to Two Worlds, just take the time to find the regular one.

Hope that helps. I can give you some unconventional tips or just tell you how I handled a specific world if you're struggling.

Cheers I didn't know about either of those things. That latter one would have saved me some trouble earlier today too because I had Two Worlds as my Chapter 3 and it was brutal. I actually got wiped out by tentacles like three feet from the Box Thing in that one, the swamp is a killer. Thankfully I'd hit a touch stone, but I still had to hoof it across the entire map with no gear before nightfall. The Wiki does not do that level's difficulty justice at all, even with a two way wormhole lol.

Not to get ahead of myself but I got Archipelago as my Chapter 4, I'm fairly well acquainted with that one, and assuming I don't get mashed into the dirt by tentacles again what would you recommend I take with me into Chapter 5 Darkness? I'm thinking a Mining Hat, a stack of Fireflies or at least a Bug Net, and a stack of Jerky. That would be my best case scenario items to obtain in Chapter 4, and I think I can manage that. I'll just need to make quite a lot of Drying Racks to save time stacking the Jerky.. As for my fourth item I wasn't too sure.. If the map exit is centred in a chess biome like usual I was thinking about taking a suit of Marble Armour just to make sure I could safely tank and kill all of the Chess Monsters.

What do you think? I have pretty much everything researched, everything useful I think. And I have a Walking Cane, but personally I'm not sure about that for Chapter 5.. Speed would help but would it be a priority? I do intend to rush Chapter 5 as quickly as possible, eating only the Jerky I take with me from Chapter 4. That is unless you advise against that, then I'll have to rethink some stuff

Speed is in fact a huge priority with Chapter 5. In at least every other World, save maybe King of Winter, you can take a short break from the nomad style and set up a base for a short time to make sure you've got everything in order. You really can't do that in Darkness, what with the constant Sanity drain. I don't even think you need to bring the mining hat, to be honest. It should be simple to make a new one fast if you've brought a stack of fireflies.

I'd say the Fireflies and Jerky, along with the Walking Cane, are all essentials. You can bring the marble suit, but you'll just want to run more than you'll be staying and fighting. Trying to conquer the islands in Darkness isn't going to get you anywhere. Also you can never go wrong with a stack of silk, probably the most versatile option for your fourth item.

Okay well do I still need to kill off the Chess Monsters at the Wooden Thing? I can maybe handle that with a Logsuit or two, provided there aren't too many Bishops, but that's really the only thing I've been using armour for so far. I can kite everything else. Not that I intend to be fighting anything I don't have to with this one. I'm just looking to grab the Things as quickly as possible then gtfo before my sanity bottoms out or I starve to death lol.

Yes, they'll still be there.

You can swap out a stack of silk for the Marble Suit so long as you make a point of destroying spider nests along the way. You might have to go a bit out of your way a couple times, but it's still conveniently doable. Sanity will become a bigger issue than hunger, so make some sleeping bags if you have to.

Okay thank you very much :)

Now I just have to not die in Archipelago when I play tomorrow.. Did I just jynx myself lol?

Why is Chapter 5 : Darkness considered the

"GET THE HECK OUTTA THERE AS FAST AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN"

Chapter.

Does it have some kind of crazy settings on monster spawns or something that makes it impossible to setup a base? Or is it just the Lights Out! preset from the normal don't starve?

Also, for a bit of strategy, couldn't you prebuild structures you don't want for a base, and then when you get to the next world place those down, hammer them down to get some resources without using up a teleportato slot?

You can still prebuild structures, it's highly recommended to do so.

Darkness is like if you took Lights Out, sprinkled in the settings of Default+, and replaced the starting gear with some stuff that's meant to fend off the darkness for.. maybe one day? Also, I don't know if you've noticed, but Adventure Mode worlds (excluding Two Worlds and The Chase Is Afoot) are sectioned off into different segments. For the most part, you're going through each segment to find the Thing in it and getting to the next one until you find the Teleportato at the end of it all. Setting down a fire pit and catching your breath can only hurt you in these scenarios.

Not to mention fighting Clockwork Bishops and Knights while ALSO dealing with Crawling Horrors and Terrorbeaks is terrible. In basic survival you never have to fight Clockworks, you do in Adventure Mode.

Oh god. Lights out with Default + Enemy Spawns?

How do you people keep your sanity up in times like these?

Health Tips

  • Don't get hit by stuff.

And you were the one who said "yes" to the "hertz doughnut" weren't you?

Hope that helps. I can give you some unconventional tips or just tell you how I handled a specific world if you're struggling.

Remember, sometimes there is not a normal wormhole in this world. If so, stock up on stuff you don't find in swamps and rockylands

  • NOTE: A Sick Worm Hole is guaranteed to be on the island, while a regular Worm Hole may not be present. If the latter is true, the player WILL NOT be able to return to Paradise so players are strongly advised to thoroughly prepare and collect anything they might need before proceeding through the Worm Hole. There also may be two Worm Hole, one sick and one normal.
  • NOTE: It is also possible for the two islands to be connected, simply through land. This enables the player to simply avoid wormholes and just walk into the Pandemonium.

Also, assume then if world 3 you could hit a winter world and if world 4..well...take a lot of gold when leaving and be ready to make a bug net whether you take one with you or QUICKLY get materials to make one over there next world...that's all I'll say.

You don't! That's why you gotta hurry.

Gee, if only there was some character that could get much health, hunger AND sanity fixed by eating one item....

*Goes back to playing "The Game is Afoot"*
