Why do I not have a Steam folder?

Recommended Posts

Sup everyone. So I've been playing don't starve for about a week now thanks to Markiplier playing it. So I see everyone having Steam folders when wanting to download mods but I don't even have that folder! Why not? Is there a specific way to find it? Is it called differently? I have a folder called DoNotStarve but I don't have any Steam folders anywhere!

If you just say where you bought the game, I can help you redeem your Steam copy. The instructions are a bit different depending on where the game was bought.

Also, it looks like the main page ( http://kleientertainment.com/ ) is down at the moment, so it's unlikely that it's being blocked.

You can buy it from Steam, you can buy it from the widget on the official Don't Starve website, you can buy it from the Humble store, there was a time when you could buy it on the Chrome app store as well.

Steam is a digital distribution service. You can download a client from here. If you want mods that are hosted on the Steam workshop, you have to be using the Steam version of the game. If you bought it elsewhere, I can help you redeem your Steam version of Don't Starve.

Where I got the game is nobody's concern. I just need the steam folder. How do I update my Don't starve game?

Btw, this forum has no edit buttons, so don't blame or ban me if I make multiple posts.

If you got the game illegally, it's everyone's concern.

You earn the ability to edit after a certain number of posts.

Not really. To be honest, we as players shouldn't bother ourselves with who or who doesn't buy a legit copy. It won't change anything either way.

But it's pretty obvious it's a pirated version. No one is that defensive otherwise. and the pirated versions are known to break when trying to use mods, so you shouldn't even bother, OP, truly.

K you caught me red handed. The thing is I can afford the game but I just haven't thought to buy one. What if I accidentally uninstall it? What if my computer crashes. But now that I know that my version can't do no crap I suppose I'll just get rid of it and buy the real game. Btw, I got a question about the soundtrack purchase or rather 2:

1) if I buy the sound track will it be cheaper to buy it with or separately to the game?

2) If I buy the track is it for any use or just listening and stuff like that?

If you ban me, fair play, I deserve that. I feel like spoiling this forum.

It's really amazing that there's people here that can communicate with each other without any insulta or any trolling etc.

I like thia forum. So I'll get the legal version and am hoping I'll have the steam folder, if still not then I'll PM you, Syd, if that's possible on this forum. So thanks really much guys, I really appreciate it.

They likely won't ban you for having a pirated version, they just won't provide support. But even if they did, they really can't help you with mods. I've seen now a handful of people come in posting a screenshot of their game not allowing mods and all but one case it was pirated.

I'm not aware of even being able to buy a bundle of the game + the soundtrack anymore, but I know that separately the total comes to $20 ($15 for the game and $5 for the soundtrack). If there's a bundle that's cheaper then go for it.

The soundtrack can be used in youtube Let's Plays and things like that, but you can't use the music for other games or to add to any other type of production, which is pretty standard.

Finally, a DLC for the game is coming soon, and it wouldn't surprise me if they did a Steam Sale for Don't Starve soon. This means you could possibly get the game for only $7. Also look at humblebundle.com for it to go on sale there too. It's an old enough game you shouldn't have to wait long for a reduced price.

When do you think the DLC will come out whatever that is? Cause I want to get the game and the soundtrack for the cheapest price you could get it. I mean I have enough money to buy them both from the original website but I just wanna save some cash, you know ;)

Btw, can you already make the shadow chester? And if so then is there a way to turn him back to normal chester?

HIGHLY suggest getting the Steam client and buying it there. If you uninstall it, you can just re-download it provided you're on your account. It also makes mods significantly easier to install.

The DLC is being talked about in the "Getting ready for Reign of Giants" thread. Any news will be posted there.

Shadow Chester isn't in the game yet, although I'm sure it will be soon. The second question is unanswered as of yet.

Okay, but I have a suggeation about shadow chester:

Because without coding it is real hard to get 9 whole nightmare fuels how about if shadow chester could contain 16 space instead of just 12. That'll give it more round shape in the containment and it'll be littwrally like another inventory, as if with the eye bone you have 14 left to carry stuff spaces and if shadow cheater has 16 well it'll be like 15 both, if you know where I'm going.

Btw, I want to know more about multiplayer and co-operative gameplay. I know that co-operative is the mod where you can have another character qith you within the same gameplay and it has a lot of differences between the main character and the second player, making some errors.

But I've seen a video of multiplayer, where two random people can use chat to communicate, be individuals and have their character on full data but both being in the same world. So my questions are for the multiplayer mod:

Is it a feature or a mod?

Do you need internet connection for it?

Can you have more than 2 players in multiplayer?

And remember, I'm not talking about co-operative mod with 2 players and the second player being glitchy, but the one you can join with a random person playing in the same world as you do. If you have link for this mod PLEASE link it here cause it'd be awesome to play with my mates and have like first 4 characters play together on the same map at the same time but on different PCs or games consoles.

Look, assuming you buy a legal copy, the different ways to install it on multiple platforms are listed here

Depending on where you purchased the game, you can retrieve your keys in the following ways.

Chrome Web Store:
If you purchased using Google Wallet, then the account you were logged into when you made the purchase was flagged for access, and your "key" was already consumed.

Please note tat this is the account you were logged into when playing the game, NOT necessarily the account that was signed into Google Wallet.

Where is my email?
The account that was used to purchase through Google Wallet will receive an email that contains the order number. If you do not get this email, you can visit http://wallet.google.com to confirm the purchase.

Once you confirm the account that you used to purchase the game, check that email address' inbox and spam box for the confirmation email. If you cannot find this email, please contact us with the order number and we will do what we can do help you out.

You can use our account helper to see the email address that the account is attached to here:http://www.dontstarvegame.com/forms/account-tool/account-helper.html

You can get your Amazon transaction reference number here:
https://payments.amazon.com/sdui/sdui/overview

Paypal transaction information can be found here:
http://history.paypal.com

I bought Don't Starve already; why is it saying I should buy it?
Most likely you used a different account when you played before your purchase and that is the account that was flagged when you purchased the game. Check any other accounts you may have used previously.

Where is my Steam key?
You can get your Steam key from the main menu in Don't Starve by clicking on the "Options" tab and choosing "Account Info".

Humble Store: (Amazon, Paypal, Google)
When you purchase Don't Starve through the Humble Store, you will be sent an email that contains a unique URL that will allow you to claim your game key (that will work with Chrome and Steam) and a download for the Standalone client.

Where is my email?
If you either A) mistype the email address or B) type in a different email address than you think you used to purchase, you might miss the email confirmation.

The best step here is to check any possible email address (and spam box) to see if you can find the Humble Store email confirmation.

You can also go to the Humble Store to have the email resent or contact them to check to make sure you used the right email address: https://www.humblebundle.com/?s=resender

If for some reason you're still having trouble finding your game key or account, contact customer support with your account information so we can help you out.

Once you purchased a Platform (Steam or Standalone [i'll mention PS4 later--free if you have Plus, for it]) the "How Keys Work" section (page 4) will explain how to update it to other platforms (so Standalone if bought from Steam or how to get the Steam Key if Standalone; PS4 to thee best of my knowledge does not have a key to install on other platforms.)

But if you don't purchase a legal copy, don't even bother asking me anything else. If you can't pay the $15 (or often less when it frequently goes on Sale through Steam and humble Bundle,) then don't think we'll support piracy. You tried it, now if you like it, buy it. If not, uninstall it and leave.

(And speaking as a person who has been flat broke while on disability and bought stuff like this, no excuses.)

Okay... I don't think there was any need of using anger but if that's you then fine with me. Thnx for the info, btw but now I really need more info about multiplayer which I posted about in my last post. Does anybody know where I can download the multiplayer mod (not co-operative mod, check the videos for differences!)

it's out of date and has been since probably september 2013 (if not longer)

as far as "the multiplayer mod" video you posted, if you click on the link in the description that says how to install it brings up a video that says "you've just been trolled."

Oh I'm not angry, (and the few people who have seen my posts when I have been quite angry can vouch for that.) I just don't support people asking for help who have admitted stealing a game on the company's own forum site.

Do you ask for update tips on Microsoft's site after confessing Hacking a copy of Office?

Show some respect, buy the game, and we'll respond in kind.
