Some questions about creatures the Ruins

Recommended Posts

When I was a new player, I played "blind"... no hints, no Wiki, didn't search out these forums or Steam's or Reddit. But I'm not about to do that to myself where the Ruins are concerned, I'm too scrrrrrrd, haha.

Since there's a lot of new folks around these parts lately, spoilers:

Splumonkeys: do they knock items out of your inventory in the same way frogs do - one item from a stack per hit, and whatever is on the leftmost side of your inventory first? Or do they take full stacks and/or steal from random slots? Also... I know Chester/chests/iceboxes aren't immune to their theft... but what about my backpack? Whether equipped or just left on the ground?

Depth Worms: all I can find is that they're "more frequent" in the Ruins. Took a quick peek down there and found single worms to be more common, yes. My questions are - are there just more single worms, or do they still come in pack attacks like the Caves? And if they do come in pack attacks, are the attacks themselves more frequent, or does it still mimic the ramp-up of the hounds?

Rock Lobsters: I was thinking about befriending some and bringing them into the Ruins for some extra help fighting mobs. Anyone tried this, does it work? All I can find is info about bringing them back up above-ground.

1) I can't answer that one.

2) Just like with Hounds and first-level worms, they come single at first, then double, then increasing to 6(?)

3) They (and all other followers) follow you between any levels, ruins included.

1. I don't think monkeys will take an entire backpack. They will wear hats they steal. What the usually do is knock out an item from your inventory and if you don't pick it up in time they'll take it. They throw poop at you and will follow you a more persistently if you have bananas in your inventory.

2. Depth Worms will attack you in set periods just like hounds. Most of the time they will attack you when you enter a cave that you haven't entered in a while. They start with only 2 which are quite easy to deal with. Later they start coming in pack of 4 or 6. From my experience unless they just glitched not all 4 or 6 will come at once. They'll come in pairs one a little bit after the other giving you time to kill 2 then get ready for the next 2.

3. Bringing lobsters is definitely a good idea. You don't have to wait for them to be beside you for them to follow you in btw. So long as they are considered befriended they will appear with you down in the ruins. I would recommend leaving some near each of the cave levels' entrances to help you with worm attacks.

Cool, thanks for your help guys! Maybe I'll try just dropping an extra backpack with some things inside that are less useful. I'm curious to see if there's any chance of a permanent storage solution down there at all.

And it's Depths Worm

Well crap, those will be impossible. I'd better quit my exploration of the Ruin while I'm ahead.
