I feel like the update where nightmares can't trigger tooth traps anymore was really unnessary. Logically, if your weapon loses durability when you attack them, then tooth traps should too. It was really a dissapointment for me and I do not feel like it was an exploit or OP. It took tons of resources to build my minefield (It is 10X10 turf squares full of tooth traps from hours of teeth gathering, wood chopping, grass picking, and rope refining) and I feel like the reward for all that labor is gone. Just a suggestion!

A mod for this would be greatly appreciated! Ty in advance.

Step 1. Go in the ruins.

Step 2. wait for Nightmare cycle to repeat itself.

Step 3. Collect crap ton of nightmare fuel from dead hallucinations.

Step 4. profit.

Step 5. Rinse and Repeat.

ive spent a ton of time simply outrunning 3-5 shadow creatures in the ruins until the nightmare cycle is over then they just disappear! but i understand that's not what you're saying here-  are you talking about a toothtrap field above ground or down in the ruins? either way, if you can make it to the ruins you'll soon have stacks of nightmare fuel- good luck man and happy hunting!
