She was running as fast as she could at this point. When she saw the silhouettes, she considered they might not be human, but rejected that notion.

"RUN!"

I'll be fine... I just need food and rest. That's all...

Oxryklne's antenna twitched at hearing a faint shout.

Did you hear that?

As she neared the figures, she saw that they were real people, which broughthe some relief.

And then she remembered she's being chased by rapidly growing vines.

"I SAID RUN!"

Oxryklne turned his head to try and see what the girl was shouting to run from.

(Can beetles even turn their heads?)

(They can sorta... turn their bodies? Or something?)

The group could now see a large cascading wall of vines, not too different from the one that destroyed the house, flooding towards them.

"Damn. That... Certainly does not look good."

An equally odd sight was the thing that had appeared to be the one shouting. It looked like an intricately carved marble statue, yet it was running toward them. Around various places were wrapped mishmash pieces of worn cloth, the biggest piece wrapped around the chest area. Dispite it running for it's life and shouting, the statue's face didn't move out of it's blank expression.

Oxryklne spoke up, despite being tired and it showing in his voice.

<Uh... shouldn't we be running now? I don't want to die because I can't fly and you refuse to run...>

"They're just vines. We can probably break them, or something."

Austin nodded, somewhat awed by the amount of plantlife. He motioned for the strange looking shouter to hurry up, and unsheathed two daggers.

(I don't know if I can do this. Would it get me killed? Can I do this? If not, I'll change it.)

The female tried to make it to them as fast as she could, but finally a few of the vines were successful in tripping her. She fell to the ground, internally cringing as she heard a faint grinding of rock.

Oxryklne tried to summon some shadow tentacles, but they didn't get very big before using up most of what little energy he had. The tendrils retreated back into him as he lay there, unwillingly defeated.

<I'm out... I can't do crap...>

(No changing allowed. You're dead.

I kids, of course.)

The mysterious child opened his palms at the vines, spraying a stream of water from his hands at the malicious plants. As they came into contact with the vines, they began to freeze solid, giving the female time to escape.

(Is it lame that my heart almost stopped when I read "you're dead"?)

She broke the vines off her legs, scrambled up, and kept running. She made it to the group and stopped beside them, staring at them and not really knowing whether to run or not.

(So I could kill you if I tell you you're dead enough times?)

The child continued sending the blasts of water at the wave of vines, holding them off nicely.

"Oh, hello there. Why are you made of marble?" J looked over at the newcomer, amusement in his eyes.

She stared at the man for a moment, clearly not quite sure how to answer that question.

"Because I am?... What kind of question is that?"

Even though it was clear the voice came from her, her lips didn't move.

(What? No award for my awesomely detailed post?)

"My name is Clara."

She turned her head to the boy and the man.

"Thank you for helping me."

Her voice was relatively emotionless.

Oxryklne would have introduced himself, but he was out cold again.

Clara couldn't help but chuckle a little at the boy's response.

"I'm afraid not. By stuck, I mean I can't change back. I used to be able to turn from human to marble and back, but now I can't. Well, I could, but I'd die."

"I'm cracked."

She motioned to the large cloth wrapped around her chest.

"That crack goes all the way through me, about where my heart would be. If I change back that crack would still be there. You can see how that would be a problem."
