MrKioFLow
So i went caving, hired a rock mercenary, and it managed to follow me into the over world. No big deal i thought, and left to my camp. Next day i realize it followed me all the way to my camp. No big deal, i thought again. Then it started multiplying. The asexual tendencies of lobsters horrified me to no end. "Oh well" i thought, some beefy mercenaries were no problem. Dawn arrives a couple days after and realize a whole herd of beefalo were slaughtered by the boulders of meat. Im talking about a good 7-8 beefalos in heat. All of them wiped out, all by only 3 lobsters. I assume they will keep multiplying, but the question remains, should i rally a pig army against them or keep their beefalo murdering tendencies? kathin413
i say keep them, but maybe find more beefalo and move them to a fenced in area. less like for the rockies to run into them that way!
the truthseeker
You have three options unless you want the "cave rabbit" response to continue: Kill them all above ground Pen them in so they can't multiply outside their cage, choosing to break open/close shut any openings when needed. Feed them some minerals, lead them back to the caves, and exit after their following has expired. (It's three minutes or six segments approximately per mineral fed.) Hugo M.
Give them some rocks and make them follow you to the hole where they belong!

the truthseeker
Give them some rocks and make them follow you to the hole where they belong! Just remember that if they are still following you when you leave this will repeat. Ahh the Wiki description: Like Pigs, Rock Lobsters can be convinced to follow and fight for the character when given any "elemental" item, such as rocks, flint, gold, or any gem; however, they only follow for about 3 minutes (6 segments) per item (the "elemental" value of the item does not factor in to this). Each additional elemental item fed to the Rock Lobster will increase the loyalty time by another 6 segments, up to a maximum of 2.5 days (same as pigs). But yes, I will update my suggestion to three. Gangstamonkey214
I would keep them in a penned area, like you said there's no big deal in having beefy mercenaries around your base, and you never know when a Deerclops might show up, or if there's a spider queen infestation and there's no pigs nearby
Cynical Cynicist
Seriously, this is a new trend lol
SharpNomo
Lock them up! I never liked the Rock Lobsters. They were too slow for me, and they have no unique or good drops (last I checked, which was probably when they came out) so it isn't worth the ordeal of killing them. 5raptorboy777
People have had this problem before. Kill them. In other cases, they've multiplied like crazy, and killed off everything. One person had so many that he could not walk without it lagging. He chose to shove them all in the caves, but then he couldn't go down there because there was so much lag. Soon after, he discovered that either he had missed some lobsters, or some up from the caves. Again, they multiplied like crazy, and both the caves and the over world were completely overrun. I'm not sure what happened, the thread died a little while ago, and I wasn't keeping up with it. I think that you might have to abandon the world. Just never bring them to the surface. Wait until they stop following you, then go to the surface.;
the truthseeker
Hmmm lag, good point. I also heard this last (free regular) update cut out most to all lag. Do people (since the All's Well that Maxwell's update) still have the Rock Lobster lag issue?
Cynical Cynicist
Jesus Christ people post more threads like these detailing your disasters with rock lobster breeding, it's hilarious. Be really specific about how frustrating it was for you when each of your attempts failed as well.
TrueMisfit
Wow, they actually followed you to the surface? That's never happened to me before.
the truthseeker
They follow you (as can any other follower mob) across entrances/exits/levels (until the follower timer expires of course) since the "Six Feet Under" update.
MrKioFLow
Well, following the earlier advice on this thread, i penned them up. I feel for the guys though, being surrounded by wooden planks just mocking stone walls they could have been. Being surrounded by a mock food source must be tragic for the guys. On the plus side, it appears everything is set and done. Hopefully the do not evolve into a rock crayfish or rock mantis (i like that idea!). Or anything with wings.
