Bugs and Permadeath

Recommended Posts

I've posted before on the steam site, after the frustrations of trying to get back into the game today I decided to post here.

When this game first came out, I was excited, I thought - oh cool a survival game with perma death, showing off your mad skills by having a character who survives throughout the year.

Of course, it was filled with bugs and buggy issues, such as:

* being next to a roaring fire, and yet still managing to get eaten by a grue

* getting stuck in the terrain
* being chased by an eye monster and getting pecked to death even though his physical character was a half a screen away
* exceedingly crappy map generation which insured failure due to a complete lack of resources - literally, winding up with nothing but non gold rocks, no sticks, no grass, walking until it hit night and just dying because of it.

All of them were bugs.

So I quit on the hopes that things would improve on subsequent patches.

I come back, some of the bugs are gone, but others presist.

I have yet to die from a grue who attacks in brightly lit areas, but I can die from a pig who ignores wall structures (no matter how airtight they are), the eyestalk monster doesn't kill me, but getting stuck in cracks in the pathing does.

It's been months.

These bugs are barely getting better.

It's one thing to play a survival game where you compete against game mechanics, it's a completely OTHER thing to play a survival game where you're competing against bugs that the developers cannot track down.

I do like a great deal of this game.

Therefore I have a small request:

Give us an easy mode where you have perma save once every 5 days.  So if you die on day 19 you only roll back to day 15.  You'll still lose time, but you won't feel CHEATED when you die from a game breaking bug.

Those who have the game settings set on hard or whatever won't be affected, but those of us who just want to enjoy the atmosphere and are sick and tired of fighting against game breaking bugs on our systems will be given a small reprieve.

The fact is: it's clear to me some of these bugs that can lead directly to death, which are not considered high priority by the devs, will NEVER be fixed.

Seriously, these bugs are getting tiresome, and it is adversely affecting not only my view of this game's development and the developers, but my friends as well (who have all stopped playing).  No one should do a perma death survival game if they can't fix bugs that can directly lead to your death.

I'm uninstalling this game until that option is added, or unless I find a "save game" hack.
