Simon snorts and laughs insanely.

Simon: BAHAHAHA, yeah! Joseph, you really get the ladies!

Joseph stands up, and glares at Simon. His eyes burn with a silent rage.

Joseph: don't laugh at me.

It only takes one look at Joseph's eyes for Simon to stop laughing, and back away slowly.

Joseph, calm down. Now's not the time.

There is an unmistakeable worry in Maxwell's voice.

Charlie looks at Furry's hand. She grabs it, squeezes it once, and flies back to the group laughing.

Joseph's irises and pupils slowly melt into a blank white, so that his eyes are all just plain white. He gently rises in the air, the ground around him slowly phasing out of distance. He seems to have an aura around him, and whatever goes into it's simply disappears, as the aura slowly grows. Simon snaps his fingers, and Snowfall and Scars are moved away from Joseph with a gust of powerful wind.

Joseph, stop this.

Shadow hands emerge around Joseph, gripping him. However, they simply dissipate. Joseph moves towards where Simon, Dewdrop, and Kate are standing.

Charlie flies into the clearing where the others are.

Charlie: Hiya, guys! What's going on?

Scars: "J-Joseph... You're scaring me*..."

Snowfall: "Is Joseph okay?"

Dewdrop: "I wasn't laughing at you bro..."

Kate: *Gets out her dagger*

"Don't get near us bro."

Furry: *Catches up*

"K-Kate?"

*He flies in front of Kate quickly and faces Joseph*

"You can't and will not hurt her!"

Simon points his arm at the approaching Joseph, sending him tumbling back with a gust of wind. While he remains dazed, Maxwell points his staff at Joseph, mercilessly sending a black streak of lightning at him. As Joseph is trapped in the electrical prison, he shrieks in agony. His eyes change to all different colors, from sea blue to blood red, finally settling back at it's normal brown. At that, Maxwell stops pointing his staff, and the lightning ceases, as do the screams. Charlie watches, somewhat dazed at the performance.

What... What did you do to him? To... What's his face... Uh... Joseph! Yeah, what did you do to Joseph?

Maxwell nods.

Good. Let's be on our way.

They begin journeying through the dark forest. Joseph still hasn't woken up, and Charlie is sometimes seen staring at Maxwell with an undecipherable emotion flashing in her eyes. Then, they hear a snarl. Hounds are coming.

Simon: Alright, Joseph, hounds. You know the drill.

Simon looks at Joseph's unconscious body.

Simon: Oh. Right.

She hears the sound of hounds, and, whether by instinct or by choice, ends up running towards them. She tries to think about her decision, but unfortunately, nothing comes to mind, or she pays no heed to it. She can see a few hounds in the distance, and she speeds up, her paws beating against the ground and her claws digging it up, sending small pieces of dirt flying about. She doesn't even think about her wings.

The hounds snarl, but they do not look normal. They seem to be darker in color, and not just because of the new darkness in the world. Simon shoots small bolts of fire at them, but it has no effect.

Simon: Dang... Um...

Charlie steps into the battle line, claws unsheathed. Shadows swirl around Maxwell's staff, and Shelby crawls beneath the group's feet. At that, the hounds leap in.

The hounds falter at the sight of Shard, but only for a moment. Some of them leap at Shard, flinging her at the group.

Simon: That hound has flaming wings. Okay then.

Whenever the hounds are hit, they scamper off. However, they soon return with no wounds. Simon begins smashing walls of earth into the hounds, Shelby and Maxwell use their shadow magic. Charlie fights beside Furry, using tactics almost identical to his. However, the hounds just keep regenerating...
