Just updated and started playing again and got frustrated with Willow's inability to regain sanity at the campfire. Is that an official thing or is it a bug? I'm getting as far on the fire as I can and its still dropping my sanity. But I get no sanity restoration or even neutralization while at campfire. I lose sanity no matter what at dusk and night times. Simply put, the sanity you gain by standing near a fire is not enough to counter the sanity you loose in the night time. Let's say in the night you loose three sanity per minute (I'm making up numbers here) In strange new powers, staying close to the fire would grant you, say 4 sanity per minute. That means you would be gaining 1 sanity per minute. However, since the it's not a rock (or maybe the Hungy for yor Hunger) update, they reduced the ammount of sanity Willow gets from 4 to, say 2. That means that even though the fire makes you gain 2 per minute, the night makes you loose 3, so you are still loosing one. I'm sure the Wiki has the proper values, bu I can't be bothered to check it.. Hope you understand how it works now, though!
