jangofet
I think that foods spoiling should only apply to crockpots, and maybe drying racks, but for the farms, the fruit/veggie is still attached to the plant, and therefore is still receiving nutrients and shouldn't just rot. Maybe food from crockpots start rotting 2 days after cooked, and drying racks 4 days after dried. Although farms could "drop" the fruit after a long period of time Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/28043-unharved-food-does-not-spoil-intended-or-exploited/page/2/#findComment-328125 Share on other sites
Cynical Cynicist
For the record, I often have (assuming I find gears in time before winter) two iceboxes, two crockpots (on a rare occasion three if in a large food situation before winter and have a lot of resources,) four to six drying racks (depending on if I am close or far to rabbits at my base,) Four Improved Farms, two to three Basic farms, and as many Bee Boxes as I can before my first winter. Sometimes I don't even have time to make the bee boxes in time before the winter (which is sad. I'm a honey ham convert as well. ) I don't view crock pots as a way to preserve food in winter as I often use them within several days (and can cook it if it were to spoil,) but am currently using the farm mechanic as an "emergency food storage" in winter if they choose not to make it spoil, but often use almost all farms for "emergency healing food when I am seriously injured. Personally, I'd like it instead if I could hammer frozen ponds and get fish in winter, but so be it. It'd be cool if you could catch a fish, use the fish as bait on your line and then catch an even larger fish (or maybe a walrus) during winter. Although, they spoil quite quickly so you'd probably have to wait until a few days before winter to catch them in the first place... A gear is a must for me too, so once I have established bee boxes on target 5th day I have 2 days to cook honey ham till I embark to find clockworks on map to make the ice box. I have 2 of them one for the crockpots and another for the farm seeds. Farms are a waste before the first winter, i spend time making bee boxes.Yeah, I have to agree with this. Before you could score some dragon pie seeds you must atleast have a birdcage to reproduce the crop and add up days spent on growing them. Your lucky to have full farm plots with dragon fruit on them before winter. Honey based meaty goods are easier to make for first year ingame. For the topic, I don't think its easy to make things rot while on pots and racks without getting another things broken. I think I have read something about this that unless we want the item to be thrown out like a bread on a toaster its still be the same as is for a while or maybe forever. Anyway, I don't see making enormous crockpot field so I am no against this feature/glitch infact 2 of them and 9 racks is just enough for me. Smidge204
I also have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, It does make it easier to just stockpile food that never spoils. On the other hand, if it did spoil in the pot you'd have no way to know how spoiled it is. Cockpots could be more difficult to make, to prevent building too many of them, but that would just make it harder for players to get established. I can't think of any reasonable way to limit the number of crockpots without just imposing an arbitrary cap. The only thing for it is player discipline! Also, I managed to make Waffles so I built a special crock pot JUST for that,. I treat it like a trophy. Drying racks are just as bad, really. I usually make eight so I cam "process" and entire Koalefant at once.=Smidge= Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/28043-unharved-food-does-not-spoil-intended-or-exploited/page/2/#findComment-328505 Share on other sites
Acet
Like many above, I only really have a crockpot or two, a couple of farms, an icebox and 6 or 8 drying racks on my bases, plus one or two beehives. Maybe it's the whole explorer (rather than consolidator) style of game playing: I really don't see what's the fun of spending ages setting up and maintaining an enormous base and a food supply which so vastly exceeds one's needs that the risk is basically zero. I rather be out and about exploring the world and trying to come up with new and improved ways to have Spider Queens suicide themselves. In that sense, having food immediatly start rotting in the crockpot, drying racks or farms would just be a way to tie the player down to the base further, making the explorer game playing style less atractive. Some kind of "falling out after a couple of days and then start rotting" mechanics would be better.
