Hi Community

This is my first thread, about bosses for more late-game fun.

Here three boss suggestions:

King Werepiggy

King Piggy already exist and the normal Piggys turn to Werepiggys at fullmoon... so why don't create a King Werepiggy?

Look: Like normal Werepiggys just bigger and with some accessoires like rings, a crown...

Abilities: strong autohit, high health, spawns (were)piggys

Drops: gold, rings, amulet, (monster) meat and King Werepiggys staff or crown (all piggys are friendly if euqipped)

Spawn: In Piggy villages like King Piggy... because King Piggy is King Werepiggy or rather he turns to him at fullmoon.

The Kraken

Maybe you thought about this misterious tentacles... they are parts of the powerful kraken.

Look: You can just see his head and his tentacles. His tentacles look like those, which already exist and his head looks like a tallbird head, but bigger, scarier, puprle and a slippery/thorny skin instead of feathers

Abilities: attacks with circa 8 tentacles (he can move them slowly around they are not rooted like normal tentacles), spits (damging or slowing) poison

Drops: same stuff as tentacles, rare item (maybe you have some suggestions for drops)

Spawn: in big swamps

Further: You (just) have to slay his head to kill him.. his tentacles die off.

Spiderqueen

You aren't afraid of this little spiders anymore? Here's an suggestion about a bigger one.

Look: Bigger than normal spiders (I need you're help here again :) )

Abilities: autoattacks (with poison), spawn spiders (or spidereggs), spit silk to slow you (after a few seconds the effect ends and normal silk drops at this place)

Drops: silk, monster meat, spider egg, rare item (suggestions pls :) )

Spawn: Near max level spider eggs

It's for late-game, so I suggest that bosses spawn at the earliest at day X (30 or sth.).

Some more bosses: Mother Nature, Zombey and maybe this special hound? o.O

Do you think it's generally realizable in the near future?

I hope you like my suggestion, pls say if you like it or if you don't and leave some suggestions about more bosses, balance, drops, abilites.... about everything :p

I mean, there's been talk of boss mobs before, and I kind've think the answer has been lukewarmish? I dunno I havn't been around enough to make that call ^^;

The thing is, this game isn't about the combat. Combat is lethal, tense, and always a problem, even when you've really got the survival down pat. There isn't a lot in the game that's focused on combat, nor should there be. If you put in boss monsters, then that means the game is building you up so you can go fight boss monsters. Even if it's just an "option" to fight, and not presented as a goal, something big like that would almost BECOME the goal. And a boss at the end would undermine the point of the game: Don't Starve.

Pretty much what they're talking about here.

While I personally wouldn't mind more monster variety and things that kill you in different ways, I dont think bosses are the way to go here.

You're right didn't think about that this way.

But monster variety would be awesome, i know there working on new mobs like hounds and so on. Maybe the bosses don't have to be bosses they could just be a bit stronger sort of normal mobs, so it'll be a step do different difficultys (turn "boss mobs" on/off).

Well the initial problem I have is the same as with the beefalo and tall birds, as the pig man king stays out at all times my concern is, if he became a werepig and died, would that means he's gone? If so, then you've lost something precious... and it probably would not be worth the reward. Also, is there any relevance to the rings? I mean, there's no place for rings unless you mean in your hand slot... which is your most important item slot. I would also exclude the amulet, as I would like to see those limited to graves... after all they will Soon let players come back from the dead. I could see him dropping gold ore, as he already trades in it... but you can already get very good gold deals with him. The crown making all pig men friendly... that would be interesting.

All in all, this is a plausible "boss" monster (minus the rings and amulet).

A swamp kraken? Nah. What I would like is for something "new" when facing a boss. I mean who wants to face the same creatures we've already been fighting all this time, even if they have a new power or two tossed in. Rather, I would prefer if the "boss" creatures were 100% unique creatures. But that's just my opinion.

Spiderqueen

As above. Which is funny, because in other threads I suggested both a giant mother spider randomly spawn every now and then when you attacked a level-3 spider nest and giant trapdoor spiders that, while uncommon, posed a threat even during the day should you stumble across their hidden lair.

Mother Nature sounds like the treeguard, while people suggested zombies as both new monsters and as a random event (i.e. zombies climb out of graves and hunt player for 1 day/night). And we will Soon have a special hound, the fire hound.

Anyway, keep up the suggestions and maybe one day we'll have some "boss" monters to face as unqiue challenges.

Thanks. I have to make up for several days away from the forum... as I had to have lasers shot into my eyes. Not nearly as cool as having lasers shoot from your eyes. :)

You know I've loved the idea of giant spiders ever since the day I watched Eight-Legged Freaks... of course I don't feel there needs to specifically be a "boss" type of monster. Simply having more difficult monsters usually does the trick.

Agreed. With time the world will slowly become populated with more and greater threats. Maybe there will be bosses, like in Terraria and Minecraft (which seemed to "follow suit"). Time will tell if we really need them or not. Until then I look forward to the suggestions and what Klei eventually presents to us.

So large spider nests would have these Queen Spiders that come out when their nest is being threatened to extinction. Currently clearing out and farming spider nests seems to easy to me and this would offset that. I'm not sure about all the behaviors it would have, but a very large dangerous spider indeed, perhaps with the ability to poison. Could spawn spiders periodically.

To the side, you can kite any amount of spiders and kill them all without taking any hits with some timing, especially if you have a spear. Instead of all the spiders stopping to attack simultaneously, having them do some sort of circulating around you and spreading out could make large packs of spiders more dangerous.

i would like to fight what ever it is that attacks you at night as for rewards, your reward (youget to live)

The Grue? Oh... you can't kill the Grue so it's pointless to attack it. The main problem is the Grue only attacks in pitch black darkness and you can't see it. So you have nothing to target. Think of the Grue as a "horror of horrors" that haunts the darkness rather than your average monster. While the Grue has nothing to do with H.P. Lovecraft, the abominations often described in the Cthulhu mythos are unspeakable horrors that are beyond human comprehension and power. Best to just avoid its attention and live another day. ;)
