Wumpair
Inspired by this post: I just wanted to know if you guys have any long-term solution to oppen sinkholes and batilisks after lunar rifts? I usually try not to base directly on top of a sinkhole, but in a recent world I happened to be close to one and one autumn bearger oppened it up; so I went to the old solution of building two bunnyman houses next to the sinkhole and a fence around it so they would not bother me at dusk/night. It worked all well, till I oppened the rifts. Every time there was lunar hail the buzzards would come down on the batilisk corpses, the bunnies would start to fight them, and they would kill each other and destroy the fence wall with their breath, leaving me with no protectors against bats for the next days. Lots of maintanance to repair those fences, and I learned to get away from base asap as hail would start, just to shoot all the buzzards with the flares before they could do any damage. Not something I minded too much, but still wanted to know if any of you had simillar issues and what alternative solutioms you came up with for bats! (Bts - I do believe tingglenodes are also breakable by the buzzard fire, so maybe just make a box around the sinkholes with tinggles with no bonnies at all; but the bats are a free source of meat, manure and batbats for wormwood, so I am not sure if its the best option to just close them up.) 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172062-how-to-deal-with-batilisks-long-term-without-bunneyman-buzzards/ Share on other sites
Pruinae
T.I.N.G.L.E nodes are my solution, they work perfectly since I don't care about the loot. If you are Wormwood and are planning on going long term, the Batbats should be outscaled by Tillweed tea eventually (There is also the Shadow Maul, but it is the Shadow Maul). You can actually very easily farm bat wings during an acid rain, carry half a stack of nitre and you'll get bat waves every half a day, with an increased chance to get bat wings 1 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172062-how-to-deal-with-batilisks-long-term-without-bunneyman-buzzards/#findComment-1871042 Share on other sites
Baark0
I'm starting to think klei should just make buzzard fire not damage walls, it's not like it adds anything interesting to the game and really just incentivizes you to turn off the main mechanic of lunar hail. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172062-how-to-deal-with-batilisks-long-term-without-bunneyman-buzzards/#findComment-1871049 Share on other sites

Bats do push eachother out from time to time and it's still annoying. and it's honestly not the little damage I take that bothers me, it's the constant guano that doesn't stack or washed by rain and keeps piling up all over the map wherever there is a sinkhole. For me personally the best solution is turning them off sadly, and I'd say the same for buzzards. 3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172062-how-to-deal-with-batilisks-long-term-without-bunneyman-buzzards/#findComment-1871091 Share on other sites
_sirJames
I remember investing in a Houndius Shootius and putting it near the sinkhole, expecting it to deal with the bats for me. It did not deal with the bats for me.    Apparently, it only defends against mobs that have aggroed to the player. So, I looked at the workshop to see if there was any way to improve it, and... all I could find were mods that changed its damage and firing rate. No, and no. Except for one mod. It makes it so that the Houndius Shootius also defends Chester. And the Batilisks love aggroing to Chester. One subscription later, I parked Chester next to the sinkhole alongside the Houndius Shootius. Such a simple little change, works like a dream, and comes with the self-balancing tradeoff that you have to keep Chester there for it to work. I love it  That said, I have no idea how well the Houndius Shootius fares against Lunar Buzzards, I haven't quite gotten to that point yet Edited Wednesday at 10:02 AM by _sirJames Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172062-how-to-deal-with-batilisks-long-term-without-bunneyman-buzzards/#findComment-1871095 Share on other sites

gaymime
it might not be a solution for most people since most people are allergic to touching the world settings but if you set the beefalo heat to more or lots then you can park a beefalo next to sinkholes you use often and they will everything out for most of the year  if default is your only interest though you really can just use pigmen. put a bait trap full of dried petals about one tile away from the sinkhole and get your pigs against the side that faces your sinkhole. because the pigs are close the bats will aggro on one of the pigs and not bother you,the only caveat is you will need to use statues instead of walls since the pigmen WILL transform and if they don't refocus on the food right away they will likely start destroying stuff and not be of much help against buzzards Edited Wednesday at 02:08 PM by gaymime Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172062-how-to-deal-with-batilisks-long-term-without-bunneyman-buzzards/#findComment-1871107 Share on other sites

Baark0
Honestly I'd just consider disabling sinkhole bats, they're super annoying especially without any way to make them stop appearing or a way to re-plug sinkholes, and that annoyance is compounded with buzzards damaging walls. That mod that adds a use for giant garlic seems like a cool and thematically appropriate way of disabling bats, I'm definitely gonna check it out. I believe that mod also adds a way to replicate sinkholes by blowing up the entrance with a piece of gunpowder. I use the mod, I like it for the exact reason you mentioned Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172062-how-to-deal-with-batilisks-long-term-without-bunneyman-buzzards/#findComment-1871139 Share on other sites
