The illumination circuit (and by extension the super illumination circuit) were reworked when WX got their skill tree to provide a headlight effect instead of a bubble of light in a radius around you. For me personally, this was a very large nerf to the illumination circuits, as it made kiting enemies in the dark super clunky compared to the lantern effect the circuits provided before, not to mention the fact that the circuits are almost worthless without the beta tinkering 2 skill unlocked, as the light radius they provide is so unbelievably pathetic with 1 circuit plugged in, and is still very small with 3 circuits. Any more than 3 is a waste, as you could just plug in the opteoelectronic circuit for full screen night vision.

I believe that the illumination and super illumination circuits should be reverted to only provide a circle of light, as it would make them more enjoyable to use without having to awkwardly swing the light around to interact with whatever is nearby.

I think the regular illumination circuit should have it's circle light around you while the super Illumination can stay as it is. Maybe the illumination circuit could be decreased to 2 slots since I don't think there's really any use for it as a 3 slot.

If you want to just passively ignore the mechanic of light put in the optoelectronic circuit. This is a fun and unique way to differentiate the two circuits.

Optoelectronic takes up too many slots for my liking, and you wouldn't ignore light as a mechanic if it was a bubble of light around you, it'd just be less clunky and annoying to use.

The current super light circuit with the beta upgrade is powerful enough for just a one slot circuit. It certainly takes a while to get used to but i still like its current iteration. You also only use it at night so more slots can go to useful circuits, unlike the optoelectronic. Although for caving, i still prefer night vision but that's what extra bodies are for.

Thing is the night vision circuit loses it's use if the 1 slot version loses that clunkyness it's a trade off and a very fair one at that.

I disagree. Permanent night vision is an exceptionally powerful ability, as it allows you to scout out potentially dangerous areas that you'd be otherwise unable to see, such as splumonkey biomes, or it can help you spot things when sailing in the ocean at night. If the light circuit was changed to be a circle of light, you'd still lack that ability to scout out far off areas, it'd just be less of a pain to use.

Making something clunky to use as a balancing measure is really unsatisfying and just isn't a great way to design an item or ability imo.

As mentioned above that's too powerful for one slot give it to the 3 slot one but but not the single circuit one and it'd be fine. 1 slot for the small cone, 3 for the circle.

3 slots for lantern/Wilson with torch skill radius for super/illumination seems a lot more reasonable yeah, and would also make a multiplayer WX to have a reason to use it over just going NV circuit and let everyone else figure out their own light source.
