I noticed when i died that the light bulb points remained.

do they still stay if i made a new game/ new map?

Are the researches you perform persistent too?

Yes, all research (points and items) remain even if you die, play a new game or make a new world.

Thus, in turn, can lead to interesting situation. You can naturally wipe all the world and sacrifice items for research points, then simply start new game, using unlocked items and buildings and enjoy the world untouched.

Your research points and your researched items will stay with you until you delete your progress.

I have done that once. I had a map that had a large island that was nothing but boulders and like 4 tallbird eggs. This was when gold dropped every time. I researched everything I wanted then killed myself. Nowdays I delete my progress if I die to start fresh. I have a folder for multiple game saves. One for each character.
