You know how when a company makes something and think it’s the greatest thing ever but then that product fails miserably and ends up having unforeseen defects so it has to be recalled and then model version 2.0 (now waterproof) is released? Yeah it’s like that… Wagstaff may be a genius but he was probably so focused on all the cool high-tech stuff he wanted WX to be able to do and at the same time forgot to install same basic functionality (such as heart empathy module) this isn’t something I’m making up… this is confirmed lore through Klei’s own animations. So I’m going to just assume that’s why.

Why not fix robots' weakness against water? Install waterproof chips to raise humidity tolerance, just like Standard-bearer chips. When fully stacked, robots only lose sanity like regular operators instead of taking HP damage. Also, can the drones of Shadow allies add a retract function? Drones block sight when unused.

It’s called an eyebrella

Yeah, there is actually a way to make WX-78 waterproof, albeit temporarily? You need to ask your local French chef for FROGFISHBOWL.EXE, it's a software update that lets WX-78 enjoy the rain for five minutes.

Lmaooo, I like this reply so much

Okay but it’s now time to ask the big brain thought questions.. sometime back Klei updated spiders so they can wear hats…

my question therefore is why can’t WX78’s armada of drones be equipped with Eyebrellas for overhead protection? 😂

Because they don’t have heads?? 😭 it’s also about balancing, spiders have very low health but can wear armor to make them less squishy so if you put in the resources to armor your spiders they’ll be less pathetic, wx's drones don’t have heads to wear the hats OR any reason to! All their drones are waterproof! You could either

a: not wear the eyebrella and just use an umbrella

b: wear the eyebrella and just not get hit, or tank damage with all of wxs circuits

and for the overhead protection thing, that’s already in the game, it’s called the umbralla, a rift version of the umbrella that protects an area from rain.

FIrst one was over a decade ago so I am not even taking it into consideration... Her actual dst downside used to be freezing when insane.

Second, the sanity and more hp loss on freezing is such a nothing burger downside in dst lol. How often do you freeze (outside of Klaus)? In dst she can just carry around a thermal stone with no winter gear and survive winter easier than other survivors who need actual gear....

She was better than other at winter survival way before the skill tree came out.

they literally fixed the sanity issue by giving her a billion sanity/min , and the free to play star caller staff thats available day 1 ,  so thats 2 of her downsides being removed،

being weaker during winter than other characters but they gave her the star that completely makes winter a joke since u dont even need to burn anything so its broken even in caves,

the fires being infinite but uncontrollable is still a downside that got fixed by making her fire dont spread , this change wasnt necessary but they still did it

still as i said it counts as a downside ، and as i said it works even in caves so u dont even need to burn anything, it was supposed to be a downside, they didnt just remove it, they even made her the best character in winter , which is ironic

While this is true the low cold resistance still makes lunar rift enemies all the more of a threat with their freezing attacks.

For anyone who claims Willow doesn’t have a downside I encourage them to go fight Klaus. And don’t do it as a highly skilled know if it all expert, do it as an inexperienced highly unskilled casual player who will bring items to the fight they think are “Helping” but are in fact, making the fight much worse.

And by this a Specifically mean Bring a Thermal Stone and Bernie…

Then come back to these forums and tell me Willow has no Downside.

Furthermore: The Day 1 Star Caller fire spell is the ONE Spell that still burns nearby structures/forest etc…

I actually had to spend several in-game days manually putting out Smolder by either consuming it with the Lighter, or by pouring Watering Cans, or doing it by hand etc… because the Fireball spell lasted 4 in game days & was trying to set blaze to anything near enough to smoulder.

My point is that Willow DOES have downsides, your just to experienced at the game for those downsides to effect You.

Thermal stones vs klaus are pretty standard to bring regardless of your character, since it preserves you heat to warm you up after the ice spell. I can see Bernie being an issue if he kills a deer, but I don't see how bringing a thermal stone would hurt you, especially because thermals ignore Willows innate negative winter insulation by having their own insulation.

The fireball thing is kinda just general fire safety, which I feel like thats something you should try to be aware of when playing the pyromaniac character. Also, fireball only lasts 8 minutes, so either you summoned a star caller or you have a haunted version of dst that specifically only changes Willow's fireball to last 4 times longer than usual.

Bernie is an Issue because he is considered as an additional player entity (meaning more enemy AoE spam), when a Thermal Stone in Willows Possession becomes Cold (due to Ice Gem Deer) Willow starts freezing faster than normal.

Two items a casual newbie would 100% expect to help keep them alive, Betray them.

I find it really funny that everytime there is a character balance discussion, there will always be someone that brings up willow, I kinda used to do it myself. Like there is logic behind these complains, "Why is X not allowed to do Z when Y cant do it and Y is pretty much objectively better than X". To be honest in most cases there isn't a good response to this type of complain but in this case I do find the complain lowkey invalid.

I find WX to be a "no downside character", his weakness to water isn't a big deal, it's just a small pig skin and silk tax, that's all. WX is an incredibly strong character and if I were forced to name a weakness for him then I guess it would be that he starts weaker than most, but that's also not that big of a deal since at the start of the game there aren't any real threats.

Uhh.... I don't think those are good arguments, if you have to play badly for your character to show weaknesses, then that doesn't really say much.
Like, those issues could be fixed by changing your strategy a little bit, and this isn't even like a galaxy brain know it all expert techniques.
Is your thermal stone getting blue in the middle of the fight? Then bring two and let one collect heat near a fireball then swap them mid fight. Is Bernie causing trouble? Use him only to take aggro from the summoned krampi and then return him to your inventory.

That's just not how thermal stone work when interacting with Klaus' deer. Klaus' deer's elemental attacks have absolutely no effect on thermal stone temperature unless the fire attack lights the player on fire, at which point the fire will count as a heat source. The only way to get a cold thermal stone in winter is to have an absurd amount of cold sources, such as moon caller staves or endothermic fire pits, something you won't be using when fighting Klaus. Thermal stones do the complete opposite of betray you, and instead quickly warm you up when you step off the ice field, preventing you from taking extra freezing damage. They're literally the main reason people say Willow has no downside, because their built in insulation ignores Willow's innate negative winter insulation, allowing her to play winter like anyone else.

Spoiler

If there was any effect on the thermal stones, their temperature would be changing, but since there isn't they fluctuate between 1-3 degrees.

I find WX to be a "no downside character"

I think its the opposite of that, in a recent run of mine i decided to do shadow pieces with an extra rook but a heavy rain started just one hour before new moon and i didn't have a choice except fight them while taking pauses to remove my helmet and kite tier 3 rooks around burning grass to dry off before reaching 15 wetness which will turn of my speed and stun me making me unable to dodge the rooks. It was hell and i had to retry many times. WX downsides is one of DST's most expressive, if rain starts at an unlucky moment you will be in serious trouble even with waterproof gear. Compare that to most characters more negligeable downsides...
