They have changed the curse from a silly twist on the werewolf trope to being the entirety of his character. His simplistic way to transform is now reliant on character crafts, because everyone has just gotta have character crafts (which also makes it so that the full moon transformation usually just has you hold still until the form expires since they're all now so specific). Even his CSS description has become extremely wordy and unfunny. It went from witty and funny to wordy and unfunny. I don't know why the Don't Starve wiki removed his bio in Don't Starve so I can't check right now, but I think it used to be *Has a lovely axe... *And a terrible curse! *Celebrates Thanksgiving <too early>/<at the correct time> which was great. Simple, to the point, funny, gives you an idea of his character without spelling everything out for you. Now it's *Has a lovely axe... *And is at war with the forest (What does this even mean?) *Suffers from the curse of the Werebeaver! (Pointless spoiler) *And there Weremoose and the Weregoose (So wordy) *Celebrates Thanksgiving <too early>/<at the correct time> (Feels tacked on at this point with how many random things there are) Woodie's character has been killed just like Wortox's and Willow's. Everyone suffers from this a bit but those three are horrid. Characterisation wise, that is a quite fair assessment; I mostly view it through the lense of gameplay, and in that regard, I would like it if idols were done away with, whether the extra forms stay or not. I'm hoping that exploring and travelling will be more interesting, which would diminish the need for the Weregoose to just sprint over huge swathes of empty space. DST's map generation is big empty spaces generated in such a way that you often need to take very long routes to travel not much distance. A more open map with more things in it, and perhaps some better ways to travel around it, would remove the need for such a form. His skill tree also gave him the ability to carve walking canes, which are very similar to the Weregoose since they're both just movement speed increases. That leaves only Werebeaver and Weremoose. A harvesting form and a fighting form. Before Woodie's refresh, Werebeaver was already a harvesting form and a fighting form. DST split it up, so just unsplit it. They are so confusing to me, which is why I barely even want to play Wilson in DST, since the skilltree update and they seem to have caused some difficulties among the community and character gameplay imbalances? I am /way/ more excited for the new environmental impacts, the "meters", states, stats etc. then complexe abilities. Unique yes, but more simplified for a fresh start concentrated on base-differences would be giving my mind peace. Complexe gameplay should (for now?) stay part of DST. Dr. Safety Posted April 13 Share Posted April 13 (edited) If Walter is included (I really hope he is), and if the Wendy aging theory is true, it would be cool to see how Walter's kit reflects him being more of a teenager than a kid. With maturity, I could see his kit being more focused on his survival skills and Woby, ditching the slingshot and sanity thing all together. I just dont know what downside he'd have though. Woby would stop being a mount since she doesn't have to protect him anymore, and just have supportive capabilities. The entire reason solo has it in the first place is playing with 2+ shards effectively forces a dedicated server configuration on the client. You can test this pretty easily by just never adding caves and seeing how the host performance is on par with DS. Jussatoon Posted April 14 Share Posted April 14 Wendy and Abigail's interaction with beefalo in DST is pretty controversial. As for DSE, I didn't see any mounts in the trailer, but even if there were, I think Klei could remove that interaction with little to no backlash because 1) it's a new game with a clean slate and 2) they intend to have the game be more uncompromising this time around. Okay, maybe not exactly, but when you look at the Steam page, it's described as an "all-new uncompromising survival experience" or something along those lines, unlike Don't Starve Together's description being a game based on the uncompromising survival game Don't Starve. WereBruhver Posted April 15 Share Posted April 15 (edited) It is really fun to romanticize about werebeavers and how not fun it was in the good old days when he had to eat half of the wood he was harvesting just to be able to keep using it. But what ends up happening when a single Wereform is responsible for everything that two or three Wereforms used to handle is that Klei balances it by making it mediocre at most of its functions. Being mediocre to a Wereform means being outscaled by human-form Woodie by early to mid-game because, unlike Woodie, Wereforms are stuck in time. They can't scale with items; they are stuck. If they are mediocre, they remain mediocre, and you start to question why you're forcing yourself to use them instead of just relying on Woodie with the items you've already acquired—items that do what Wereforms do but better, without their downsides—while also allowing you to heal and use any other item from your inventory besides the one Woodie is holding. Please, leave Weremoose and Weregoose alone, I just want to see Weregoose glind down the new elevations in Elsewhere and see Weremoose and its ground smash and charge in the new graphics. Stop promoting removing Woodie's two most used forms, they are the ones I and a lot of people have the most fun with and promoting everything to be put into a single wereform like this just open opportunity for Klei to leave Woodie's Wereform mechanic in a deplorable state again like it was from 2016's feelsbad beaver until the skill tree in July 2023 that fixed Weremoose.
