Antynomity
What would you like to see in this game? What would you like it to focus on? What are you most excited about from the trailer? I don't know what your answers may be, that's why I'm asking! I'll go first, I'd love for the game to be a "soft reset", and in some form, it already is as it takes place in yet another world. What do I mean by soft reset? Well I guess I'd go with making sure the game, the world, it's characters are designed to work around eachother at a baseline. Whether it be a total rebalance of characters, a redesign to their abilities, making sure every part of the world is relevant in some form, I'm all for it. Here comes the mandatory survival spiel of ye olden days, Make Don't Starve Punishing Again... or something like that. I think Don't Starve, and in-turn Don't Starve Together was at it's peak when you master the game world's mechanics enough to build a lasting settlement, all the while still being susceptible to it all being taken away by your mistakes (Except for wildfires and disease in their implementations, screw them both), or alternatively - and it's especially well executed in Hamlet, where if you're knowledgable enough, you can rush anything and everything you need very early on and then focus on your own objectives that you set out during a playthrough. That's also the reason why I wasn't really a fan of the last few years of DST, I think Skill Trees and a lot of the more recent bosses (Scion excluded) felt very much tacked on, and that's on top of the fact that the original Don't Starve world was never designed to have an ocean in it, ocean exploration really just kinda sucked since you had this massive land mass in the middle that you had to circle around or build multiple boats to overcome, with both solutions being really, really not fun and time consuming. Back to survival, I'd really love if the game once again focused on survival more, it doesn't need to get ridiculous, and I seriously hope we don't get stuff like Wildfires, at least not without major reworks and additions when it comes to countering them, as ever-present in their season mechanics like WIldfires having just a handful of viable counters at any time wasn't that engaging when surviving your 100th Summer season. I guess the point I'm trying to make is I want the game to never get to a point where you're full on cozy, but I also don't want the game to be unfair, which brings me into the last point I'd like to make... that being, the overall balance of damage sources and their counters, as in; I always thought taking 75 damage to the face from one hit was just BS, and it was especially BS when armour is as trivial to obtain as it is, as all it ever really does is punish newer players, while restricting the potential gear combinations you can equip. I'd like to see damage numbers be more forgiving, armour slightly harder to come-by and healing items a bit more limited. WIth decreased damage numbers you wouldn't constantly have to fear of getting two-shot, allowing you to try and use different combinations of items without using armour. As for environmental damage sources and starvation - I think those should be more deadly when not accounted for, but also much less micro-managey, at least when it comes to temperature and any other potential mechanics similar to Shipwrecked's poison, or Hamlet's fever. If you've read this wall of text, then thank you for bearing with my awful formatting, feel free to discuss both my wishes and to present your own down below! Oh.. I forgot to talk about the thing I'm most excited for, silly me. That ought to be the new terrain, I have actually really wanted for elevation to be added to a potential 3rd game and I'm really happy that it's happening! Really hope they go above and beyond when using elevation for the mechanics in the game. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170644-so-were-getting-gta-6-before-dont-starve-3/ Share on other sites
aidancode
Assuming this is DS3, I think this is an incredible opportunity to set the game up with a large scope in mind. The water seems to be part of the game from the start, and I hope we get an interesting boat exploration system. This is a chance to re-imagine seasons. Winter is generally well liked I think, but Spring and Summer have plenty of haters. I think changes could be good. I think it is highly likely that the RPG elements of DST will be expanded upon, whether we like it or not. I think it'll be a good thing, though, since it's designed from the start. A more nuanced combat system could be great for this game. The new axis has potential to make exploration much more interesting if it's utilized. I'm excited to see character perks that might relate to it. In any case, this game has the potential to be the biggest thing for DS since DST. 5 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170644-so-were-getting-gta-6-before-dont-starve-3/#findComment-1859805 Share on other sites
HowlVoid
I want a forced reset. I have been loving Elden ring: nightreign so much it re-ignited my love for rougue-likes. One aspect of it is that after beating the big boss at the end you restart. And while I would like to see progression (something more concrete than just skins) after each reset, I would hope for something far less invasive than what skill trees are. I wanna join in a lobby with randoms do our best to survive while the world rapidly evolves around us and we scramble to deafeat the boss on the top. Every new retry learning new paths and new strategies. Eventually once you conquer the boss you get new items to start with or some other boon to make the next experience diffrent and not necessarily easier. Thats the kind of multiplayer experience I can hope for. With new and harder variations of bosses to tackle and make your way to. Oh true, skill trees, well I personally like them how they are but maybe for this game they could take the comentary that some people had made in which instead of Insight points the progression could be done through milestones and it resets when starting a new world or having lost the previous world, I think that would fit with the rouge like aspect. But that also makes me wonder if the gameplay would be different from Don't starve and Don't starve together somehow. 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170644-so-were-getting-gta-6-before-dont-starve-3/#findComment-1859820 Share on other sites

Thats the kind of multiplayer experience I can hope for. With new and harder variations of bosses to tackle and make your way to. Eeehhh idk. Assuming the combat is the same as DS and DST, I would be extremely disappointed if they just focus on that aspect of the game, especially if the culmination of surviving and beating the boss is to loop back and start over. I don't hate boss fights, I just hate how optional they are in DST. So my hope is there will be elements of bosses that make survival harder and harder either finding a way to work around it, or kill the boss to give yourself some breathing room. Or go back to basics with the RoGiants where they actively come after you and your stuff. So if there is a forced reset, I hope it is an opt-in thing like it is with Adventure Mode in DS. Some people really enjoy making mega bases and while I don't participate in that aspect of the game fully, I do quite enjoy making survival as comfortable as possible until I get bored and start a new game. So having more survival aspects I have to deal with (the fog seems to be a big one with DSE) is extremely welcome and what I crave. As far as progression is concerned. I hope it is a Roguelike and not a Roguelite. I just find roguelikes much more fun than roguelites. That is assuming progression is getting new stuff to play with (ala StS, Binding of Isaac, etc) rather than upgrades to make future runs easier (ie Hades, Rogue Legacy, etc) then I can get on board with it. DS is a roguelike by nature, so just hope that aspect sticks around since DST is kind of moving towards roguelite with the whole skill tree thing. 2 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170644-so-were-getting-gta-6-before-dont-starve-3/#findComment-1859881 Share on other sites

Winter: pengulls, mactusks, blue hounds, snowbirds, glaciers, short days and long nights, cold/freezing, snow, many mobs in hibernation (bees, butterflies, frogs, mosquitos, gobblers), some plants not regrowing, frozen ponds Spring: like autumn, but with eyeplants, rain/wetness, lightning, no rabbits, aggressive bees Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/170644-so-were-getting-gta-6-before-dont-starve-3/#findComment-1859946 Share on other sites
