aidancode Posted March 26 Share Posted March 26 The amount of information that isn't transparent in this tree, primarily with the alpha/beta circuit upgrades and chassis but even with the drones, is kinda insane. I don't think any tree before this had me so unsure of what I was even investing my points into. The descriptions could be made much better, I think. Ironically Walter can't be topped for the most cryptic skill if only for the advanced slingshot band. For as cryptic as Wx's skills can be you will eventually understand what they do through normal play however for Walter the existence of thr possessed slingshot band is something you will never experience organically you have to be told it exists and even during Walter's beta a dev had to call out that noone was using it before I discovered it even existed and posted about it here on the forums. I'd be shocked if we ever reach that level of cryptic design again despite it being pretty cool in hindsight though but yeah Wx could definitely use better descriptions for his skills. Though it would probably be better if the individual items listed the changes instead. I can data mining myself so I'm not so confused but it clearly is a problem to people who don't want any spoiler. Hardy circuits raise damage reduction; Gastro circuits lower hunger drain; Process circuits raise sanity Regen from dapperness and lower the intensity of insanity auras; Bean booster triggers a shield that overlays health. .: Beta circuits :. Illumination circuits have a flashlight effect foward; Optoelectric circuits have a filter easier to eyes; Shock circuits trigger an explosion worth 100 damage per circuit that raises frequency the more circuits you got; Rangebooster makes Jimmy area of scan bigger; Speed circuits make carrying heavy objects less of a pain, the more speed the less you feel speed penalty from them. Thermal circuits resist to status like burning and freezing; In the end it ain't that bad just takes a while to catch up. Having the info is good from the get go and God bless data miners but I get why Klei like this sneaky approach so people figure it out and discover stuff the more they play so the game keep surprising. Yeah, because it's Don't Starve. Its spirit. It's intended and how it should be played. At this point I assume the quests are supposed to be fuel for community interaction, and that reaching out to other players for their knowledge is part of the collective experience. And yeah oh my god I totally forgot about Winona's affinities. I remember "The Shadow Queen looks after you" (or whatever wording it had I know I'm close enough) being an issue for a lot of people and they just.. never changed it? How many people organically found out via experimentation that you can even get a delicate rose. I know they like to be brief in the perk descriptions but they're there for a Reason. It's just hard to explain some things sometimes. It's not like they can even wedge it into the scrapbook either since it'd just be cluttered and having scrapbook info for a skill tree specific perk on a non-skill tree item is weeiiirrd. I don't know how they could even fix this beyond just.. using the skill description to explain it the best way they can. I guess but at the same time why all Lunar quest, apart from Pearl, can be done and enjoyed purely blind? I did it and others in my community, and it seems purely intentional from Klei. So I don't see any reasons why Don't Starve can't be more ironed out in these points.
