Dr. Safety Posted December 22, 2025 Share Posted December 22, 2025 (edited) My girlfriend and I decided to get the gingerbread pig house kit and try to make it. It turned out pretty well, but I do have some feedback for people who haven't tried it. Note that neither of us are good at baking, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Here are all the tips that we wish we knew ahead of time: 1. The proportions: Following the instructions will make a LOT of dough. We made both sides of the pan and still had over half. Be prepared to make a lot of pig houses or maybe use it to make other cookies 2. Needs eggs: I don't know if we did something wrong, but the "dough" had the consistency of Moon Sand. We realized that eggs would help bind it together and make it less powdery. We added 2 eggs, and it was doughy, but it ended up rising slightly during baking. When we make this again, we will press down on the cookies immediately after it is done baking, to try to fix this. It didn't rise too much, but enough to make the pieces fat. The chimney was not usable, and one of the houses is slanted. 3. Too much molasses, not enough cinnamon/ginger: The recipe calls for a LOT of molasses. We ended up adding extra cinnamon and the cookies still taste like straight molasses. I'd recommend using less than the recipe amount for it. We got store bought frosting, so I have no advice or feedback for that part of the recipe, but the houses ended up pretty nice! Happy holidays everyone. Stay safe! Luckily it didn't need to be fast drying or anything since we just used it for the hat.
