This update it's obviously just "a small gift under the christmas tree", all about Pearl. However since it touches just a tiny bit of Lunar stuff, plus the surprise on halloween, I just wanted to make a small request, if it was possible considering the developing time for it.

Since we (finally) have proper active mutations on Lunar Island with animals (hounds, pengulls and birds), can the same be done for the plants?

Tall Tall   Idle

It could be lovely to see slowly flowers turning into lunar trees, normal saplings into lunar saplings, normal trees into driftwood trees, and ESPECIALLY carrots into carrats and dragonfruits into saladmander for being easily normally endangered by extinction!

Carrot  Dragon Fruit

Carrat Normal

And maybe *pretwy please :wilson_flower:* can a new lunar grass plant be added? (maybe as a future change for 2026). Cut grass miss on Lunar Island, which is a heavily shortcoming design and should be fixed fast (after all these years...) instead of forcing the player to grab a big package of grass tufts from the main-land.

The number one missed potential the lunar rifts have imo is not mutating the surrounding area into lunar variants. Pretty much everything that can be destroyed by rifts has a lunar variant, and it's especially annoying having things like mushroom spots getting destroyed, since afaik those don't respawn. Instead of having a cool and fitting method of collecting these items, we're instead left with tons of logs, rocks, pinecones, saplings, and grass tufts lying around the world.

Yup. Day one suggestion of the Taking Root beta was that rifts should mutate the surrounding area for their duration: Rift appears -> trees, mobs and their spawns (beehives, ponds, mole burrows, rabbit holes etc), plants and boulders get turned into a lunar mutation, lunar island/grotto-style (since in the code there is apparently a comment that mentions Klei having officially made two distinct lunar mutations in the lore: caused by general lunar proximity and caused by a gestalt) -> rift closes -> the area slowly turns back to normal

I'd also love if plants could turn into their lunar variants!
And yeah, a lunar grass variant would be cool. Plus a lunar grass gekko (and maybe lunar grass could even have a higher chance of turning into a gekko)
Having both lunar grass and a few gekkos on the lunar island would be fitting. And if normal gekkos get killed, at least they'd have a chance of returning to life
Also it would be nice if more things could be added to the regrowth list. Since catcoon stumps and rabbit holes can respawn. maybe other mobs could respawn, too. And if it isn't too much harder to code for mobs that wander around a biome rather than having one little home spot, then maybe that could include carrats and saladmanders (as well as beefalo and volt goats)?

in dst if you dig a mushroom it will respawn elsewhere after a while, i thiiink it takes two seasons? it falls under the regrowth category of item renewal....that being said i dont think you can have MORE mushroom spots than you started with at world gen even after any destroyed ones are replaced

Heya. It seems I wasn't the only one thinking about this and I'm happy a lot of you like it :). I'll try to respond to each one of you.

Well, what can I say, apart from, heck yeah, ?

I felt this pain guys even before when Lunar Island was introduced in 2019 and expected Klei to expand it more.

I felt this EVEN MORE IN 2014/2015 WHEN THEY INTRODUCED RUINS AND THE NIGHTMARE CYCLE WITH ONLY MONKEYS GETTING INFECTED. WHY SLURPERS AND DEPTH WORMS DON'T GET INFECTED? WHERE ARE OTHER ANIMALS? WHERE ARE MORE PLANTS (AND INFECTED TOO)? WHERE ARE MORE SHADOWS ENEMIES? ENEMY VARIETY? WHY THIS LEVEL IS STILL AN EARLY ACCESS! 😭😭😭  (sorry, I got emotional, I really really reallly like Ruins 🥲 ... )

I'm very happy Klei is waking up to this, even if late, and appreciate to death what they did on halloween, but much more work must be done on this for what it's promised.

Also, I'm sorry if I'm a broken clock but I don't know how else to say it, --->

The real problem are the Rifts itself. The concept. It's the box, not the content inside the box.

If you analyze this new buzzard danger inside a bubble, let's say hypotetically, inside a specific biome of Lunar Island or an event of Lunar Island all together or (the easiest answer) during the Lunar Quest, none of these problems would ever come to the game and Klei would have easy life.

Frankly Klei should never ever introduced Rifts and put all its content already in all the others promised parts of the game (Caves, Ruins, Ocean and Lunar Island). I don't get it either why copy so hard Terraria (I guess marketing?) when they already had their fantastic original idea of quests, which resolve everything!!! Oh, a new cool apocalyptic danger has been introduced? Well after I had fun with it, I can turn it off by completing it and then go back to it in the future by lunar quest again.

I was thinking about grass gekko but didn't want to fall into triteness, so I'm open if Klei even adds a new plant or a new "plant-animal" grass like saladmanders/carrats. The importance relies in giving this level of the game cut grass, which you know....it's the crumb of Don't Starve lol.

Finally, @Baark0 mushroom spots can respawn now, I confirm too, as Klei added it not too long ago. Yes, regrowth is lame, as gaymine explained, instead having a proper reproduction system for mushrooms spots, but this is what we have.
