I have a big issue with don't starve together on my console, the game is so fun but there is a lot of things like health bar, season time, mini map, and a lot of other things that could be fixed with mods, as you know on consels there is no option for mods, so I ask kindly the butiful developers of DST to add an option in menu for mods, or at least for basic mods that everyone use in DST.

This is a "play PC" situation.

Or homebrew your system and figure out how to make mods yourself.

Sadly it's not a klei thing I believe.

PC version has mods because it has the steam workshop. But consoles don't have a workshop equivalent. Idk probably a legal thing for consoles to not have to deal with copyright.

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't there a steam workshop on xbox?
I remember there were mods for skyrim, or is an exception?

how would you even code the mods lmao?

you need a proper UI environment for modding and actual assets like a keyboard.

Some games like Fallout 4, 76, Skyrim, Ark Survival Ascended, Conan Exiles, & Minecraft do have mods for console players.. however: Those Mods have to be certified and approved by Sony & Microsoft to be put up on the marketplace (as in you can’t run around with Lydia in her Birthday Suit on Skyrim unless you play PC.)

Think of “mods” for console being more like “Paid DLC expansion packs”

The ColdStream Mod for Left 4 Dead 2 for example that PC players had as a Free Mod, ended up being a Paid DLC pack on consoles.

This is the price you pay to be a console gamer… we pay more for less.

But in all brutal honesty??? I believe it’s BECAUSE we pay more, PC stays able to afford to get stuff we pay for, for Free.

Do you suppose Klei codes the XBox version of DST by sitting in front of their office TV with a game controller?

DST mods are all Lua, so mods for PC should Just Work™ on consoles. Don't even need to recompile code for the platform. Most likely just a security issue.

This is cope. There have been plenty of games that never even had console ports, and mods were always free.

It's like people can't believe that Linux is a completely free operating system that has existed since the 90s.

(BTW, Microsoft could actually afford to give Windows out for free, since all the profit comes from business licenses. But they've realized people will pay for it, like they pay for XBox mods, so they charge for it.)

I don't think Klei will ever add their own Workshop for consoles like Bethesda does for Skyrim and Fallout games. These games have mods but they are all curated by the developers, you don't have all mods made by the community available like it is on PC, just a few selection and these are usually paid mods.

I know the mobile port of Don't Starve Classic has some mods like Geometric Placement and Combined Status, but I'm not aware if they are fully compatible or not. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems those are cracked versions of the game that already come with said mods pre-installed. You're basically pirating the game which is obviously not permitted and also risking installing mods that may have malicious code.

It's technically possible to make mods for console, the game code is almost, if not exact the same as the PC version.

Aside from that you still have other obstacles like making the mods compatible with controllers, making sure they are up to date with the game's current version. Mod authors on PC update their mods when they please. But on console you don't have workshop pages to directly discuss with mod authors, imagine if the game updates and now your mods are broken, who would you contact to fix it? You can't blame Klei because some mod is not working anymore, you need to contact the author. And on console you simply don't have that infrastructure to begin with.

Of course they're possible. There's just no incentive to do so. Switch barely has a community as is. And I'm not sure what the homebrew/hacking scene is on XB/PS. It would not only require a large community that wants mods, but a large community with modded consoles.

But it is possible. Smash is a good example. The community is huge and a lot of effort has gone into making training mode mods, network connectivity mod, skins and even new characters.
