Multiple friends quit the game waiting for tress to come out. I'm out of people that still play. This staggered release is a huge balance issue. At least with the old release schedule, it was only a matter of time. I know Klei thinks they care about balance, but here's the issue. Some of your characters are great, some have sucked bad for years. This is the biggest balancing issue in the game. No progress on fixing it at all this year. Can we see some movement on this? At this rate, the servers are going to shut down before everyone is updated.

It’s not as bad as your making it out to be either, the characters who have yet to get skill trees are some of the most already in-depth and highly complex characters in the game. Meanwhile the ones who got skill trees are the ones who need more “fun” to their character & personality.

The thing is though: HOW do you go about adding more to someone like Wickerbottom who has like 20 books worth of stuff she can do, or Maxwell who not only can read and use all of her books, but can do his own additional crap too.

I think Klei wants to approach these with caution so they don’t become broken OP gods.

So... Warly is "in-depth and highly complex"..?

Get then to play a character they haven’t played before or something. Not all content has to be new content.

Currently this is not Klei's priority, it's better for them to take their sweet time with skill trees to make sure they are up to a certain standard and fully realized instead of doing it quickly.
We all want skill trees for all of our fav characters, but we also want them right, let's give them time and not rush the process. The arc is also ending soon enough, but it's also important for klei to not feel burnt out of the same process of updates.
We'll have some seasonal events for the rest of the year and hopefully that will calm things down with how bumpy this year's development has been.

I hope we got the last shadow arc update before skill tree...

Webber? He’s pretty good already, I mean.. aside from his spiders lagging down the server when he has a huge horde following him. He has something Wurt Does not… he has the ability to use an edible to change the “type” of mob he has with him and keep in mind all the features I am about to list are BEFORE he gets a skill tree.

Switch Cookies, Whistle to Calm angry spiders (should your non-Webber pals accidentally become targeted) the ability to Downgrade spider nests in the world by walking up to and shaving them with a razor, the ability to “sleep” inside tier 3 spider nests using them as free tents left out in the wild for sanity and health restoration. The ability to pick up and place wild spiders into his inventory (any player can do this, only Webber however will not be targeted and attacked when he sets them back down) this means: you literally can steal nurse spiders from Spider Queens and never have to use a Switcher Cookie to get nurse spiders.

which finally leads me to: With as little as two nurse spiders left in your inventory to deploy all you need to do is command the two nurses to attempt to attack each other, they will instead: Endlessly heal.

Webber OP don’t need fancy skill tree.

Warly on the other hand… ouch, Klei’s going to make a lot of people sad when they remove his ability to craft foods then switch to a better character to benefit the buffs of those foods as a better character, OR they’re simply not going to do Warly Justice when he remains to be someone you switch to long enough to make a food dish buff then switch to someone else to make the best use out of it.

It's unfortunate, but there is no longer a constant stream of updates, so there will be no choice but to have dry spells for skill tree updates if Klei wants to try satisfying players who prefer world content. We need to learn a little bit of patience, the skill trees will come in due time. Consider trying out modded characters if you're starving for new character-based experiences. Or try other characters you haven't touched yet, if it's the case that you haven't tried everyone yet.

You've just listed a bunch of things Webber can do. That doesn't prove he is too strong.

Webber has some very gnarly problems, but being too overpowered isn't one of them.

No, the devs confirmed on the last stream. There will be no skill trees this year.

I'm glad they said that, because I wish they'd finish (with the necessary calm) the completion of this arc. In the last skill trees, they had to completely redo some work during the beta, showing that doing something too quickly tends to be very bad (imagine two weeks of beta for the skill trees).

Tbh my only issue with skill trees rn is with Webber's, since there most likely making us wait untill his skill tree finally releases to give us a fix on the spider lag issue, it's such a big issue with him and the fact it's been here for years is a big reason he feels bad to play (and since he's just the free, worse wurt)

I don't think that's accurate? You need to feed them first, which means they aren't "wild". (Wild ones must be caught in traps.)

Nurse spiders are more practical via switcherdoodles (it's honey), since spider queens will turn themselves back into nests after a while. Shattered spiders are the ones you should just grab from lunar island. Spitters you're pretty much forced to take a detour to caves and back, unless you want to waste 4 nitre each.

Yeah, but spiders are extremely squishy compared to merms. You need enough nurses to avoid them being flattened by bosses, which runs into the lag problem. (There's also limited space to surround a mob, which is why you need spitters.) Transferring so many across server shards is also a colossal pain.

Yet Wurt's perks far outmatch Webber's. Her merms actually do work for her. She doesn't mind being wet. It's impossible for her to fumble her weapon/tool in any way (e.g., wet or bearger). She doesn't drop any items upon drowning. Fish sanity (incl. Star-Sky) and freshness buff (for sunfish / ice bream use). Higher stats, especially with king of merms. Bunnymen, catcoons, and (lunar) frogs are neutral to Wurt and her merms. (Don't need a whistle to stop merms from murdering all neutrals and eating deerclops eye, because they just don't.) Marsh speed. All before skill tree.

The only thing you didn't mention about Webber (aside from beard) is that they can eat raw MM free of any penalty. Wurt has a vastly more restricted diet (though she gains bonus hunger from dried kelp, etc.).

I think Webber's skill tree certainly ought to be fancier than what Wurt got. Throwing spiders at mobs. Cave spiders shielding allies instead of being useless.

this!! this!!

everyone I know that plays Webber has retired him because any time they'd recruit spiders in a long-term world it came at a significant performance loss to the server. It's been years and i'm so afraid they're saving it as a thematic bow on top of Webber's skilltree.

I miss seeing Webbers...

This is what happens when you actually take time to make something cool like some of the newer trees (Wortox, Walter...) and not spit out 3 unfinished ones at once. Just wait.

Wortox didn't change since the beta that much. Maybe you forgot that most of that beta was focused on trying to fix Wendy. I'm not brave enough to say that one is great on here either though.

I remember Klei said last year that they would prioritize updating the skill trees. I even said back then that it would take at least two years to finish the update, and now it seems it might take more than two years. I’ve noticed Klei has made some player-friendly changes recently, and its reputation has somewhat recovered, but I still don’t have a positive outlook on its future.
