To achieve this, the developers would introduce new weapons with critical damage and critical chance attributes, and new combinations of armor and helmets would increase the critical chance. Poison damage, both on monsters and players, is also a great addition. This same answer could have been given before the planar system. In fact, a simple hambat could be the only weapon in the game and that's it.
