Everything to Know About Turf

Recommended Posts

I know this is a strange topic, but hear me out. I'm planning on making a video about turf all across Don't Starve and I was wondering if any of you  had any insight you could share about the ground. I've got a few things written down such as turf priority, biome indication, and base organization, but still feel like there's so much more I'm missing. If there's ANYTHING you know about turf, please let me know! It's kind of hard starting at GROUND ZERO, but I'm willing to get down and DIRT-y to find some CONCRETE info. (Sorry in advance)

well got the types  manmade rocky soft. alot of that plays a bit into how planting on it works certain turfs stop world regrowth while others do not. and also some creatures can not grow on them like eyeplants with lureplants.
Plus like the sounds the play while walking on top they all vary and some change when the world is wet and snowed over. Road is one thats pretty important to know because it usually makes a different sound when snowed over compared to most other turfs.
also how sanity and the games filters play a role some turfs are easier to see and fight on while insane and at night.
But idk if thats really what you are focused on.
I can go more into it. I kind of talk about the sound design of turfs a bit on one of my videos

Wow, I never really thought about the sounds that play when you run over turf! That's definitely a solid talking point, especially with that tip about the roads in winter. It really goes to show how interesting the ground can be when you stop to look at it.

So some turfs have a 100% crow or red bird rate, I don't remember which one, but I know that pencil farms can be turned into absurdly rapid electric dart farms with the right tool and a scarecrow.

rocky and dangerous biomes desert and swamp are 100 percent crow
default biomes like savanah and forest are 50 50
Grassland is the only one that has 100 percent seasonal birds

If you are including both the vanila DS and the DST, rember that the fuel value you get by burning turf in a firepit is substantially different. In DS turf is very efective!

Also, another difference between single player and multiplayer, is that in solo DS you only craft 1 turf, while in DSt you get 4!
