Lag Switching/DoS attacks on Klei Hosted Public Servers

That's ok, remove the voting system and then allow server saves to prevent crash wipes. Problem solved, no more control freak griefing (which is the worst kind of griefing in my opinion) and no more server crash or majority vote reset griefing.

This way griefers burning bases is just another ingame survival aspect to navigate around. (After klei fixes world regens to make every item reasonably renewable ofc)

ok.
Now how do we get klei to actually implement it, as we all know klei wont touch their pub. period.
The only time i got them to do something for klei pub is when server forgot to update.

Yeah, just make the experience for everyone misserable cause a small group of people is organizing themselves to play. Let's grief and crash servers, it's totally fine if WE do it. Cheks out. Have a day.

Why do you care so much? The klei server isn't your server. Stop acting like it is.

If you are so upset at griefers and server crashers then play your own world or find a community hosted server that is moderated.

Otherwise what klei can do to prevent most griefing is to strip away the tools griefers can use against the server which are:

  1. causing server crashs (solution: add server save backup on server restart)
  2. abusing voting system by majority vote control allowing for groups of griefers to assert control (solution: remove voting system)
  3. Base burners/loot raiders (solution: make absolutely everything renewable, give global world location to unique items like altar pieces, pearls pearl, terrarium etc etc)

These are by far the most common sense ways to minimise all forms of griefings.

We can't because it's obviously a waste of time. Would you prefer klei delaying content updates for this? When most people don't even play on the klei servers?

Klei has been delaying content up right left down. Nothing will change.

This one i have to say who ever playing in klei server own part of the server. for 12 people, just for playing, you own 1/12 of the server and got to say what going to happen with it.
Obviously people use multiple account to manipulate this is griefers, but if 11/12 people want to burn the world, they should be able to.

No one owns anything ever.

Even this 1/12 idea is the start of the corrupted mentality that leads to the control freak day 4000 griefing. Which is exactly what would happen if klei implements server saves without removing voting system first.

The appeal of klei servers is the lack of control! I don't have control, you don't have control, it's the appeal of a server completely without order which is unique to klei servers that draws us in.

Giving power to us to self moderate would turn the klei servers into every other server and take away the uniqueness of playing on one.

The OP never mentioned anything about the types of griefing you guys are talking about. This post was very specifically about Klei servers being booted offline. So if Klei wants to take action then it's their choice but giving them 7 pages of replies to read through definitely won't help.

If you want to talk about generic griefing then you could do it in another post.

OP doesn't need to mention other types of griefing because the easy "solution" of implementing server saves to fix OPs griefing problem will introduce a whole new set of griefing problems, hence the topic-related discussion we were currently having before you tried to dismiss it.

Ignoring the knock on effect won't prevent the knock on effect :wilsoalmostangelic:

OP never mentioned server saves either. We are talking about a potential fix for the methods being exploited to boot servers offline.

How deeps the ocean?

People will always find ways to crash the server. DDOS attacks gonna be very resource intensive to stop if its even possible.

A better solution is to minimise the damage when Klei servers do crash. Which i believe are these 3 steps that i will repost (regen QoL will help everyone out as a bonus):

  1. server crasher griefers - solution: add server save backup on server restart
  2. Vote system abusers/ "control freak" group griefers- solution: remove voting system
  3. Base burner griefers - solution: make absolutely everything renewable in a reasonable time frame, give global world location to unique items like altar pieces, pearls pearl, terrarium etc etc)

That's the 3 primary griefer types.

Making everything renewable fits the lore. It's "The Constant" it should fight player destruction/input to remain constant with faster and faster world regen as more of a certain structure like pig house or spider dens or beefalo herds gets wiped out.

It was common some years ago, but haven't seen such a klei server for years (last time maybe 2020).

Oh, that explains it. I didn't play Klei servers back then, from what I remember.
