Klei has left us in the dark for months now

Recommended Posts

Even a dev post saying we're working on the update or we're working on the new roadmap will keep people's attention and show the community the devs care

Instead we have gone months now without even a post about the progress of when the update/roadmap is going to drop. Its just killing the interest of alot of players and it wouldn't hurt for the devs to make a couple posts.

...what

Literally a dev made a joke to go to a random date generator and make yourself a prediction because it's hard to predict this stuff. Would you rather they told us "it's gonna be in a week! Oh no sorry next week. Ah we miscalculated, next week for sure" over and over?

When it comes, it comes. If it's not here yet, it means it's not ready.

@BezKa

they don't have to set a concrete date, just one post in general discussion saying "hey we're working on it, sorry for the delay."

But maybe they're so busy in their day they can't type one post

The reason why I think everyone went crazy during this recent beta is because the lack of communication between the devs and the forum.

People felt they had to resort to extreme measures for the devs to even acknowledge their thoughts.

I just wish there was more communication between devs and community

There has been constant communication this entire beta. Hell, this is probably THE most open the devs have ever been, with each major change to the characters having a whole thought process written out to explain why it is the way it is, something they have never done before. Is it really that bad that they don't make an additional post in general discussion saying "the upcoming update is in fact still being worked on"?

@lowercase skye

Yes I feel it's a good thing, even something as little as that.

for example people were complaining in general forums about great worm timer that kept resetting so noone could even encounter the boss

or the void masque mobs constantly multiplying and that took a while to fix.

general discussion is the main forum.

Hey, there is communication between the devs and the community they trully want to know people opinion on the changes and everything else, but theres a misconception here.

The community is starting to believe they have the power to decide where the game needs to go. You can see this afirmation validated with this beta like all the chinese community went on fire cus they didn't like wendy skill tree they even "suggested" a dev should stop working on the game cus is a nonsense what he did with said skilltree.

And then beta forums were full of wendy topics for 3 months straight (yes even today there's topics about her). Just a glance on the topics suggests that people like the changes some don't and they are arguing why those ideas are bad.

As a dev said they read the forums and try to adress what they belive is best for the game, At the end they are the ones who decides what to do with the game not the community but on the past two months community belive they are the game and know what to do with it. (man no one in the forums knows the lore of the game more than a dev, or the intended mechanics or future ways of adressing endgame or earlygame)

So for me yeah devs communicate but right now they are trying to relegate the "power" of the comunnity to decide where the game goes not as a suggestion instead as a must be.

I know the feeling, but the truth is most devs only ever read the forums for a reason.

An eager fan base will take anything someone says and make a big deal out of it. Each forum response from the place of authority a dev has, requires thought and effort, and it is not their job. They're here to make a game. They spend most of their time doing exactly that.

The kind of communication we'd all want, a big explanation thread from JoeW we sometimes get, or a few paragraphs on other update posts, takes a long time to write. And as has been said before, JoeW is not just "the forum guy", he has other stuff to do as well. And guess what happens under those posts every time? People get salty, start attacking each other, and it requires moderation which is just more work.

It's better to focus on actually getting the update out faster, than write those posts.

If you want a sign something is happening, go on the bug reporter. There's devs marking issues they fixed almost every day. If there's nothing happening, it likely means they're working on something completely new, or preparing the content for release. Keep in mind it's just something I observed in general, not a truth and a 100% predictor.

I know people try to be louder than others in order to get heard, but it's precisely why devs cannot respond to feedback in any way. Because if they tell you they like your idea, you might think they will now implement it for sure. Or if they tell you no, this is not a good idea, you might feel targeted by an "authority". Both of those are bad outcomes. Better not respond at all, and let players discuss between themselves.

And don't blame devs for other people's behavior. I know It's easier to simplify it like that, but when a person chooses to be nasty, it's their choice in the end. I know that far too well.

@Larael

But the beta when it first came out was terrible, i'm not even going to sugar coat it. All 3 trees.

I agree alot of things that were said during beta was wrong but alot of people are really passionate about this game.

If the community didn't express that type of massive response I doubt they would have changed alot about the trees and just had them go out like the wolfgang or wurt skilltree

At the end of the day the devs do have the power but the community should be the most important because we're the ones that actually play the game on a regular basis and pay for the game and skins

@BezKa

I understand joe or any dev cant be on forums all day, but at the same time they could drop ONE post saying what I just wrote.

It's really the bare minimum. It has been 5 months since the last dev post on general discussions.

Tell me, with a straight face, that people wouldn't start writing absolute nonsense that devolves into pointless arguments and breaking forum rules under each and every one of those "We're still on it!" threads. People will see a post about the update, get their hopes up, get disappointed, and the whole thing will become volatile and in need of moderation. Which again, is wasting everyone's time.

If someone is curious about the update, they can go on the beta subforum and check the hotfixes. One got posted during our discussion here. There's no point announcing to the people that do not go on the beta forum that the update isn't ready yet.

And if you really want to hear that the update is in the works, I can tell you that.

They are working on it. It's going to release eventually.

That being said - I have the update announcement coming out tomorrow and roadmap plans have been discussed and finalized and changed and finalized and then discussed and finalized again - so it should be out sometime around when the update drops.

As always - as soon as we know and we're willing to commit to a plan we announce it.

Hi JoeW, I just wanted to thank you for all the hard work you have put into this community. You and the rest of the Klei team are absolute rockstars! I hope you have a great rest of your day.

We for sure have not gone months without an update. I've seen no drop in interest on my server. It's been busier than ever. Not all of us are whining about something we get for free.

Please go touch grass. This is a video game, not life and death.
