Is this perspective true? Or is this just people boasting out of thin air?

I dont think he is stronger than wolfgang but he still is good character right now and he isnt boring like wolfgang

Not really related to the topic or your point but I do feel as though Wes is a better team support character than Wolfgang due to his scaling team sanity restoration via party balloons , balloon hats, life vests, and balloon flares it's often criminally overlook but it's actually really helpful for people who take the together in don't starve together seriously. (and who don't use mods to erase the boon of balloon flares)

I don't feel like people had a problem with Wolfgang until the skill trees came out. I always saw him as the character you play if you want big rewards for minimal effort, since even though other characters can get close to his dps they need a lot more work and setup to get there compared to Wolfgang. If they did make Wolfgang more interesting, then that is a win win, but he feels almost intentionally simple
