Let Walter Toggle a "Lock" on Woby's Storage

Recommended Posts

This is not skill tree related, but it is Walter related so I figured I'd pitch it since he's got the spotlight on him.

Walter's playstyle and perks promote using body armor for combat, at least in the early game. Woby acts as an additional backpack for Walter. It's nice to be able to use Woby as Walter's only backpack, and just use body armor in the day to day.

This playstyle is great when playing solo or just with friends. However, public servers are a lawless wasteland. Strangers can't wait to get their grubby little mits on whatever you have (I can't tell you the amount of times a random Webber stole my Codex Umbra as pre-rework Maxwell because you needed to drop it to summon minions).

It would be nice to have the option to toggle Woby from public storage and private storage. If this doesn't get in, it's no big deal since Walter is already miles better than what he was before. Just a nice QoL option. Also credit to @Mike23Ua (If I remember correctly) for suggesting this in a comment not too long ago

Yeah I'm dying for this feature even on the beta I've had people rummaging through my Woby taking things out without my permission it's to the point I become super paranoid anytime someone I don't know approaches me when I'm not riding her.

A lock/unlock option in the Woby actions menu would be nice. It fits with how his new abilities work

When the lock option is enabled, it works like Wurt's armermry, only Walter can open it himself. The unlock option is like Chester, everyone can access it.

Note: armermry is Wurt's skill set item that contains log and cutgrass, which is used by merm guard soldiers to get head armor.

the idea of putting a padlock on woby's storage is funny, and it'll help with public servers.

my only concern is someone hoarding the important loot and then logging off.

tbh that can be done with normal inventory/bags too.

It could even be a button on the Woby inventory UI rather than an option on the Woby action menu, to avoid cluttering the menu

I agree, but as someone already said if woby is public, she can hold special items like glommer flower, chester eyebone, celestial orb, etc.

If she is in private mode, she automatically drops these special items.

I'm kind of confused why the special items thing keeps coming up like how does anyone deal with people just holding on to these items?

I agree with this idea, but idk how it would work with the "Woby mail" perk. If that perk makes Woby leave the items on the floor then it would work fine with the lock, but if "the other player" is supposed to access to Woby inventory to get the item then the lock works against it.

I mean if they do make it a toggle all you'd have to do is simply toggle it off when you use the ability

Pretty sure it would work like Wurts Clever Disguise’s, only the people she gives the masks to can safely travel through her Merm kingdom without getting immediately punched to death.

With Woby, I I imagine that it’ll allow the player you send her to to access her inventory even if it IS locked for everyone else besides the player or players you command her to go visit.

My only concern are the “anti-fun police” aka: the trolls who will horde all the loot inside Woby and only share it with their troll buddy whom they are in cahoots with.

No way I forgot about this.

It would be pointless to make woby unable carry special items since players can hold this items anyway, and woby already drop them when you leave the server.

You are so right lol

Just as an idea, Woby could be always locked and sending Woby to other players can unlock it for them? If you're sending Woby to someone it means you're trusting them with her inventory. My big concern about a lock command for Woby is command UI clutter so it seems fine overall if Walter is the only one that can access Woby normally as it is technically a part of his perk

That or put a lock command in a different place away from the rest of the commands

Now that the new skill is out, how feasible is this? I didn't get a chance to see if/how the skill  works with other players yet so I have no clue

It functions like a homing pigeon, requiring a pre-set mark by Woby (only one can exist at a time) or another player to operate. If there is a chest near the destination, Woby will store the items; if there is no chest near the destination, Woby will crouch and wait for another player to retrieve the items.
All these actions are initiated and controlled by Walter himself.

I have a few friends who will be furious at this as they were getting tired of competing with the dog for twigs and flint (Where before I could just say "open woby up and take the stuff.")

Hopefully we can have a toggle for having woby still have the old behavior because otherwise I will get some interesting rants because people have their stuff stolen by retriever woby.

We're locking Woby's container by default, it just didn't make it into yesterday's patch.  It becomes unlocked when you send her to another player using the courier skill.

Oooooh, in that case, could I send Woby to someone right next to me to unlock access to them or the people around?

If it works as I mention above, it might still be okay. It would require attention from the Walter player to allow that though

Is it possible to include a lock button? I would like if I could just un-toggle the option completely for the sake of convenience when playing with friends
