Woodie's Efficent Carver skill should allow you to craft boards twice as fast

Walter recently got a skill in his Skilltree called Twine Twirler, which allows you to "craft rope more efficiently". This both allows you to not only craft rope with 2 grass instead of 3, but also allows you to craft them twice as fast. This is huge for bulk crafting and keeps the skill viable throughout all stages of the game, from the early game when the saved grass is relevant, and the endgame where bulk crafting quick is very relevant.

Woodie by comparison, while having the ability to make boards with 3 logs instead of 4, doesn't craft the boards any quicker than any other character. This really sinks the usefulness later on, as while he does craft boards more cheaply, you also spend a very long time refining hundreds (or in some case, thousands) of boards going this route, which can easily take multiple ingame days. It's to the point I often drop it for using a sawhorse later on as while it is less efficient, you'll get through the work much faster, and likely save more time in the end to plant more trees and craft through that route than plant fewer and spend days refining the boards.

I think the solution here is pretty simple: just allow Woodie to also inherent the perk of refining twice as fast. It would keep the skill relevant in most cases without being nearly as outclassed later on. I don't mind the other skills (the hardwood hat and cane) being unaffected as you are not making these items nearly as much as one of the most refined items in the game.

I hope this can be looked into, even if Woodie isn't one of the "featured" trees at the moment. It would be very appreciated!

I would love faster carving animation. I'm constantly tempted to just shove all the wood I collected into the sawhorse, but I resist because I have the skill, and I must use it.

Speaking of which, I've always wanted Woodie to be able to place his Lucy the Axe on a Sawhorse (usable only by Woodie) and then apply his own woodworking skills.

Tbh I prefer to let Woodie have crafting speed bonus for using a sawhorse.

Im glad that walter is rubbing off on people so that way other characters too can also get relooked at and readusted so that way people can enjoy their games.

Woodies wood carver skills always were kind of slow in the crafting department.

Honestly maybe Woodie with the skill could just craft several boards at a time, like one would with a sawhorse?

Agreed with this post. Also if Woodie’s board skill gets tweaked at all, I’d appreciate it if the thing that let you craft stuff as components of a larger craftable automatically used the 3 logs/board cost, as long as Lucy was in your inventory.

Indeed.

Woody is the character who needs the most skill tree improvement... if I say so, that person will put me into a sack and beat me with a improved torch, but he really does suffer from power creep and is second most in need of improvement out of all the characters.

I feel like if they fixed skill trees after they ship them, it would take a lot of pressure off the forums. Because of how they release, there's a urgency to make sure everything is good before they go live. If they did small tweaks, it would get rid of the arbitrarily imposed rush to it all. Really hard to feel bad for the devs when they're the ones running the show.

So, one other thing I appreciate about the Twine Twirler skill is that it completely replaces the normal rope recipe. This means you can still benefit from Twine Twirler while using the "craft ingredient" feature unlike with Woodie's efficient carver skill where you have to deliberately craft your boards with your skill ahead of time.

I think this might be because Woodie's skill requires Lucy so it works more like an alternate recipe instead of a replacement recipe and there may be some situations where you would want to craft boards without Lucy as Woodie.

I'll say I like the flavor of the Lucy board recipe (special animation/bonus Lucy voicelines), but I think it would feel a lot better, mechanically, if it was a direct replacement recipe like twine twirler without requiring Lucy in inventory.

If Woodie could craft the boards a bit quicker, I wouldn't be opposed to that either.

Although I guess you would lose the discount if you made your boards at a sawhorse
