Please delay and rework Wendy's skilltree

Countless great ideas have been proposed in the last three months, but all have been ignored unless it's a pure nerf or art problem that has nothing to do with design. Until now, this skill tree is still half mind-bogglingly repetitive work requirements and half is poorly motivated rewards, without any new gameplay.

What has Wendy's group been doing for the past three months? The Walter tree over there has doubled in size, and if it weren't for Wendy's terrible weekly update, I'd almost think she'd be the one sent back for a big rework.

Walter was a huge success just by adopting suggestions, with a 100% satisfaction rate—even better than people expected. But when it comes to Wendy, it feels like the developers are deliberately going against the community. Why? In terms of power level, the only characters worse than Wendy are Wilson, Wes, Wigfrid, and WX—either widely considered weak or still lacking skill trees. Almost the entire community agrees that Wendy needs a skill tree like Winona's or Willow's to keep up with the years of power creep. Yet, Jason mentioned in his note that she's "too strong," which has almost become a meme. And when it comes to fun factor, it's undeniably a mess—just bland item swaps and more repetitive chores. The entire skill tree outside of TS might not be as good as the beefalo QOL Walter brought.

Sorry to say so much, I'm just very, very, very confused, this isn't how Klei has been doing things over the years.

Anyway, my suggestion is: If there isn't some behind-the-scenes work already happening, just delay Wendy's skill tree and rework it, only release Wortox and Walter skilltrees (after finish them). I believe the community would understand delaying it to fix it rather than releasing a poorly designed skill tree—at least I would.

 

BTW I know undo code merges are hard, but you can hide them by just adding few simple line to Wendy's skilltree, which has been done many times in the history of this game.

I really enjoyed playing Wendy during my novice days. However, as I spent more time playing, I found that Wendy struggled a lot when fighting bosses. I think Wendy is a character more suitable for beginners. But Wendy has too many skills that are useless and complex. This isn't very friendly to new players. And those who have played for a long time no longer know how to play Wendy. I hope the development team can clearly define Wendy's role. It would be better if they could delay the release or redesign this character.

I would really hate for Wortox's tree to be released in a state that it's in considering how much weaker than Wendy's tree it is but I think it's a good idea to get Walter's tree out there early. Release it as a mini update and leave the other 2 trees for the next major update.

No there are people that believe that because of walters recent tree update
Wendy and wortox should both be looked at more with a closer lens.

Frankly I just want wendys small problems to be fixed and have them swap Sisturn3 and Ghastly experience effects

while giving sisturn wreath like effects to buff up abby with different petals

If you don't see the problems that exist on the tree Im happy for you. But there are still things that really need to be managed before the tree gets released

This one has a good showings of what still needs to be tweaked. There is still some Glaring problems that do still need to be addressed. You should want to have other characters have a good skill tree because then when it comes down to your character getting one If problems are not addressed on previous ones yours will end up being worse by default Because others will tell the same thing you say now.

If Wendy is still considered "too strong", then I must be missing something because at least some portion of the community sees the opposite. From a balance perspective, she's struggling to keep up with years of power creep, and her skill tree barely adds meaningful new gameplay. That said, I understand the frustration from both players and developers who just want to wrap up this beta branch and free everyone still stuck in planning, coding, and art. But where is the traditional roadmap for Wendy's adjustments? Right now, we have no way of knowing what the developers have in mind.

It seems like you have a very good understanding of Wendy's skill tree. Could you explain which skills are so "useful" that you have to politely call Wendy players "idle"?

I think it would be wrong to "rework" current Wendy's skill tree, because it was "reworked" once to reflect the opinions of Wendy players.
I could support the idea of further improving the current skill tree insights or adding insights that you would like.

In my opinion, I'm happy with the specifications of Wendy's skill tree itself, but I think there is still some overall tweaking that needs to be done.

  • Blessed Sisturn III : The recovery penalty is applied for a while after got player tag damage, because I don't like Blessed Sisturn III is just minus skill against enemies that are not player tag.
  • Wraith's Wreath : MORE PERISH TIME. It doesn't matter to Wendy, when another character uses it, it spoils really quickly as I hesitate to use it. The original 10 days is already too short, and the rate of spoil accelerates due to temperature and wet. It's fine 3-4 time the amount of Mourning Glory in the ingredients, I would like increase the spoilage time to 20 days, if I could say luxury 30 days. 
  • Perennial Altar : I hope it's more unique than the Cheap Meat Effigy.
  • Shabby : I think Cursed Vexation could to further increase Damage from Wendy's attack and reduce damage from other characters.
  • Gesutabby :  Giving up AOE is a big price to pay, so I think it would be ok to bit buff (100-200-250 → 150-250-300), or bring back the 10-20-40 AOE of Attack At. If Wendy is going to be a "Casual character", that's fine too.

Why is that? even If creating a qualified nice skilltree may difficult to Wendy dev group this time, but I think for other Klei DST dev group does not need so long time. We already have Winona/Walter/Woodie/Willow/Wortox success, look at how nice they've done in most skilltrees in the past.

However, if Klei really needs more time, I have plenty of patience.

Wortox's skill tree is obviously unfinished, but I have a lot of confidence in it from what's already done. If the rest is done with the same quality, it will be the best skill tree ever for me.

NO they give a lot, and developers use them well, as we always been. Which is why I'm confused that the same thing didn't happen with Wendy.

I do think it's hilarious that people act like Klei didn't listen to the 10 million threads giving feedback on Wendy. Like... Where do you all thing the 100 patches on Wendy came from and why there were even threads specifically explaining the reasoning behind certain Wendy changes?

Anyways, Walter was the most hated character in the game so he obviously needed a Willow-tier skill tree. Wendy did not. That's why Wendy's skill tree isn't like Walter's.

She's fine. Maybe some fine-tuning could be done, but expecting the beta to be further delayed for Wendy is kinda silly. It's not gonna happen. This week (and maybe the next one) is most likely the last week (s) of the beta, and then things will be released in whatever state they are... And the devs will probably be mostly looking at tweaking Walter now, to fine-tune a handful of thingies.
