Mike23Ua
Alright so the TL:DR version: Klei should SERIOUSLY consider a DS/DST Collaboration with Minecraft. (This isn’t a joke… please don’t take it as one.) Now for the more in-depth explanation as to why.. you see, I don’t really leave home, I don’t go out and socialize I tend to just stay in my house playing video games all day, some would call that unhealthy, but I play ALOT of games, Console games, Mobile games.. critically acclaimed games I buy as soon as they release but never play further than the tutorial because the games too complicated or I’d rather play something else.. I even buy DLCs for games I haven’t even played the main campaign for yet (I do sometimes go back and play those games when I get bored though..) Anyway I’ll skip to my point: I bought Minecraft when it first came out on Xbox 360, I played it a bit but stopped playing I believe around the time they started adding pillagers to the game to raid villages? Recently I’ve decided to go back to playing Minecraft, and have bought A WHOLE LOT of DLCs for it, from textures and mashup packs (like Skyrim) to Add On DLCs (like Dinosaurs!) and over time I began to notice that if you buy enough DLCs, & add ons for Minecraft- You can start to sort of see how this could EASILY be turned into a Dont Starve Collaboration. Now If this idea is ever taken seriously… I ask that you DO NOT RUSH THIS COLLABORATION!!! Do NOT make it small and insignificant like you have in the past with Terraria & Cult of the Lamb. When you buy enough DLC, Texture, Behavior & Add-On packs for Minecraft- You start looking at the entire game in a whole new perspective.. A nice example: Huh that set of Spikey pillar attacks the vindicator mob surges the ground with in Vanilla Minecraft sure is new and interesting… But what would happen if I took this animation and gave it to Minecrafts Spider Instead and gave that Spider the Skyrim Mashups DLC texture? Holy crap… did I just put DSTs shattered spiders into Minecraft? (Well in my head at least since, I don’t know anything at all about modding, coding or creating my own content.) But there’s many other examples, Huh cool the Eagles that fly around and land on the ground in the Naturalists DLC Add On are a neat new mob… but what if we swapped that animation out for the Buzzards looks? WoW I have DST Buzzards in my Minecraft Deserts now! Huh Wolfs Add on adds wild and angry dogs to the world.. that’s cute. Why does the Sniffer Mob in Minecraft look like it can so effortlessly easily be reskinned into DSTs smelly FurCow the Beefalo?!?! Am I going insane??! The completely free “Hitchhikers” Add on adds DSTs walking Canes (which actually speed up movement when held) Lanterns, and Bedrolls..? huh that’s really neat too… They added Campfires to Vanilla Minecraft? Neat.. the “Insane Natural Disasters” Add On adds extremely cold blizzards that can only be survived by building and warming up near a campfire? That’s very very much don’t starve! This same Add on has “acid rain” well surely that’s just a coincidence! Theres this really cool and scary add on that adds a sanity meter and nightmare monsters to Minecraft called Depth Dwellers? oh come on Klei… surely you have to see this Collab in front of your own eyes by now! Ive had this idea in my head for quite some time and I’ve tried to push it away and forget about it because no one ever wants to seem to take my ideas and suggestions seriously, but the concept of this has been a nagging thought in the back of brain that won’t go away & im hoping that if I share it here… the right people will find and read this post and then they’ll be able to make an actual Dont Starve Minecraft DLC. I would put together a demonstration, using Minecrafts creative mode to build the biomes, place the resources and spawn in the DST mobs that belong in them but frankly: I lack the creativity to this in a professional capacity, and would rather get the Idea seen and known so that the people who DO See what I see in MinecraftxDont Starve- Can do what I by myself, can not. lowercase skye
The majority of Minecraft add-ons are made by community members, they're basically just mods through an official UI. A collaboration between DST and Minecraft is a fine idea, but the way you're describing it would be incredibly questionable on the part of the companies involved. It'd be like Klei going through the Steam workshop, downloading mods, and implementing other people's work into their game as part of an update. Yes, but also.. the majority of the mods available on the Xbox version of Minecraft are all direct ripoffs of another persons mod, it seems to be “fair game” to straight up create your own versions of someone else’s work & sell it on the Market place. With that said: Before you completely discredit the idea of DST x Minecraft at least do me the honors of watching these two DLC add on showcase videos. Here you can clearly tell A lot of content was heavily inspired by DST, Walking Canes, Lanterns, Heads on Sticks, even little Chester like critters! And.. Here- we get to see how *Creepy* Minecraft can get ooo super Spooky! My point is that Klei would miss a colossal collaboration opportunity to see Minecraft as it’s “competition” what they need to instead be doing, is using Minecraft as a way to bring us 3D Dont Starve & with enough DLCs/Add ons purchased for Minecraft: You can almost simulate that experience yourself! MatthewLovesYou
I wish collabs were as simple as developers talking between eachother and allowing to add stuff from one game to the other. Maybe if both were small and indie, but both are owned by large, profit driven (talking about microsoft here not klei) companies so it's unrealistic to expect anything with a game of that size Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/163621-some-strange-idea/#findComment-1793199 Share on other sites
CaptainChaotica
Well, considering that new players have been referring to Minecraft at least jokingly every single time they knocked down a tree or mined a rock in DS/DST since the beginning of time (one review I saw even kept referring to it as "hipster Minecraft"--but the person knew a lot about The Constant's actual lore, so I don't think that was meant insultingly)...that would be both the most sensical and expected crossover EVER... ...and one that has to be done very carefully, because, well, a lot of people do see "survival game + crafting" and go "LOL EVERYTHING LIKE THIS IS MINECRAFT!!" See also: People who, unironically, type the phrase "Deerclops from 'Terraria'." I doubt the characters if brought into Minecraft would have their unique powers and traits that they have in DST, it would probably just be super basic stuff like Wilson or Willow (pre skill tree) But then again… this add on exists- the important thing that you need to know about this particular Add-On is that the sonic skins were already in the game in a previously released sonic Mash-up pack. This DLC allows you to use these characters along with their brand newly added animations of unique character abilities, in any of your Minecraft worlds. IF Klei was to ever do a DST Crossover with Minecraft.. We are potentially looking at the same ordeal the Sonic Stuff has going. (there’s 3 Sonic content packs on the Minecraft market place) one is a Texture pack which reskins the games world and mobs in your Vanilla Minecraft Worlds to look appropriately Sonic, one is a Mashup Pack- Which includes pre-built Sonic Themed Worlds pulled straight from the games. And the newest one is an Add-On that lets you create your own Sonic themed worlds Outside of the Pre-Built world DLC. you don’t really need to own all 3, but each DLC performs a different job. I would prefer a DS/DST “Add-On” so it can be added on top of other add on content into my existing Minecraft worlds to work alongside my other activated Add-Ons (such as Insane Natural Disasters- Which hilariously includes Acid Rain, Strong Freezing cold blizzards, and Desert Sandstorms!) But the potential of having my favorite game for its cast of characters and wacky mob designs (don’t starve) mashed up with my favorite game in terms of what all you can actually do within the game (Minecraft) Would be a pairing made by the gods themselves. <3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/163621-some-strange-idea/#findComment-1793255 Share on other sites
