Wurt tips ?

Recommended Posts

Topic. Trying learn the character, what are your best strategies, tips or tricks for someone new ? Is it better make a lot of normal merm houses or just a few warrior ones ? And how does one deal with low spawn rate of beefalos, this was never been a bother for other characters but she needs quite a bit of fur for mermking and the last time i couldn't rush him early cuz of it.

I usually never build a Merm King as Wurt,  I always try to find a well established Swamp with Merm Huts, then I build my own extras in there, I want to keep them aggressive to all incoming threats (active Merm King turns all but your loyal warriors Passive)

Beefalo can be mass reproduced by bonding to them with a Beefalo bell carrying them away from their herd, and breaking the bell bond.

Wurts a Vegetarian but I’ve personally never had any issues with just eating 1 Berry + 3 Ice for fistfuls of Jam to satisfy her downside of not eating meats.

Also due to Wurts strong grip so tools don’t slip out her hands, & her additional skill tree perks (like passive health regen while wet) Wurts one of the last characters who you ever need to get an umbrella/Eyebrella for so you can give those items to players like WX78 who takes health loss damage being out in the rain.

Sanity for Wurt is easy to keep from dropping by wearing a tophat and carrying a pet fish (StarSky also counts as a pet fish) Wurt can practically live in caves without ever suffering sanity drain as long as she has a hat + StarSky.

Can’t help much with wurt but to start new beefalo herds just give one a bell and take it a little far away from original herd. The beefalo will still try to go back to their herd but once enough time has passed they will create a new one close to the bell, if you want more herds use more bells, only one beefalo per new herd is necessary. It’s slow but works like a charm. I’ve split one herd into 3 by the savanna, made herds in 2 different forests and one new herd by the moon island with this method.
Another great tip is to place anenemies at the center of the herd, it will passively kill some beefalos while they create new babies guaranteeing a full hands free meat (If you check it every now and then), rot, fur and horns farm. The beefalos will stay close to the one tied to the bell and won’t move too far away from it.

When it comes to Wurt I recommend taking your time with her you can get overwhelmed with her crafts if your not very experienced with the character. You should ideally go for a mix of normal and guard merms as normal merms are the only ones capable of using tools which allow them to work faster, dig stumps, and till farm plots while guard merms can use the armory, don't panic to bosses, and can learn a combo attack if you give the king the trident.

This is not good advice.

As Wurt, try get merm guards fast as they are so powerful, but only when you habe a usable base. Keep 6 merm guards with you at most times since it is really cheap to recruit and it makes you unbeatable.

Also try get kelp and stone fruit from the lunar islands and your healing problem is saved. You can also start merm wars for fish.

Hire merms, let them die, use fish to make more houses and expand

My Issues with Merm Guards as opposed to naturally spawning MermShacks is that the MermShacks house multiple Merms in one house, this is why it’s optimal for Wurt to find already established swamps, and start building her kingdom alongside it. Do not underestimate the power of having 5 Merms come running out of one shack to defend their swamp turf. Find 5-6 nearby naturally spawning shacks before you even start building your own, and that’s enough Merms to quickly bring down Eye of Terror so you get Eyemask, or to easily defend against Deerclops and Early Game Hound Waves. All of this is BEFORE Wurt starts building up her own kingdom.

And with newer changes to Wurt: Such as Mosquitos & Frogs ignoring attacking her, it makes it easier than ever to base near their ponds.

I usually tell people not to build a Merm King because once you do that the naturally spawning huts that house multiple Merms at one time all become passive. (Really wish Klei would give us little scrolls we can take to Merm king to declare War or Peace so that setting up a Merm King doesn’t lose the benefits of having 5-6 Merms come out of a hut to protect you in the early game before you establish warriors and a king to replace them)

I'd go for the merm king, maybe not super rushing it, but as soon as possible (at least before spring).

Wurt is pretty decent to get gold now that she can trade ocean fish with the merm king for it, craft a few trawler nets in the ocean waters that are the nearest to your base.

Also merm wars allow you to give fish to your king, which will give you a lot of seeds in return. You don't even have to go for specific crops, just let your worker merms do some tilling and plant your seeds every time you get a chance. You will passively always have food when you return home.

As others mentioned, kelp farms and stonefruit bushes are also important to Wurt, so consider exploring the moon island before the first winter if possible.

I normally aim to have 20-25 warrior merms in my surface world, and at least 4-5 "normal" worker merms (they can be the ones that naturally spawn from swamp, if you base there)

At caves I just make another 20 warrior merms and a merm king seat with a normal merm hut whenever possible. Even though they fixed the fact that you only need one merm king to affect everywhere, if you are going to spend a long time in the caves for whatever reason (EG: summer, or to avoid post rifts brightshades) it's better to let the surface king die and be able to feed your king downstairs instead.
