What Direction do You Believe Dst Should go in?

You guys kinda Derailed my entire point..

”Add-Ons” for Minecraft allows me to optionally choose to purchase new content that extends onto my Vanilla Gameplay experience, which can range from anything to a small visual change to the way trees look, to completely altering the games entire mob behavior system, to adding new content or harsher weathers. I can install add-ons that make map navigation “Easier” such as DST style walking stick for faster movement speed (which is FREE in the Hitchhiking DLC) I can install Naraka Bladepoint style Grappling Hooks, Or I can even install things that make my gameplay more difficult- Such as the Insane Disasters DLC that adds strong Blizzards that require standing near a campfire to stay warm, Sandstorms that slow movement speed and impairs vision, Acid Rain which damages players, Mobs, Spoils vegetation..

Is any of this sounding extremely familiar? If Klei gave me Six Months I could probably find enough “Add-Ons” in Minecraft to turn Minecraft into DS/DST, minus the characters unique abilities, and of course the shadow creatures.. outside of that though: The Naturalist Add-Ons Bald Eagles could easily be reskinned into DST Vultures, the Mutant Zombie from Mutants 2.0 Add-On (the one that smashes the ground like Deerclops leaving a trail of stone spikes) could Easily be reskinned into Deerclops.

Spend enough time playing Minecraft with Add-Ons and you start to see how extremely easily it would be to port over MOST of Dont Starve Togethers Mechanics (including newer stuff like acid rain) over into the 3D world of Minecraft.

But getting directly to the point, all of this content I’m adding into my Minecraft worlds is entirely OPTIONAL, if I find myself dying to often to for example Mutated FIREBREATHING Chickens I can turn off the Add-On for Mutants. If I’m Annoyed by Acid Rain or Tornadoes I can shut them off by removing the add-on.

If people pitched a complete FIT about Klei adding grotesque body horror lunar mobs into the base game, that could had been offered to us as an OPTIONAL Add-On we can purchase to add ourselves.

And that mindset rings true for MOST of everything Klei has done with DST since 2019…

Instead of having every new mechanic they attempt to experiment with Nerfed into pure oblivion (see original releases of Moon Quay DLC or How ruthlessly unforgiving Wavey Jones Was) even the Skill Trees themselves could had been an optional add-on pack.

I doubt anyone is going to listen to me or take anything I say seriously… but the winning formula currently for Minecraft is its “Add-Ons”, & it could be DSTs winning Formula Too…  instead of trying to Satisfy all players of vastly different playstyle preferences simultaneously all at once, Klei should steal a page out of Minecrafts book and give that power and choice to their players.

Yeah probably don't do that Mike, propriety assets etc.

Update: This wouldn't be a port either really. This is called an asset flip.

Of course licensed mods are a winning formula for Microsoft, I think currently the winning formula for players is the curse/forge stuff. Which again, goes back to mods, ones untied to a marketplace at that.
Bedrock is the Mac to Javas Windows.

All of these are just unnecessary things that the devs added that are just annoying and.. being honest, they kinda suck.

Look all I know is that if I enable the Insane Disasters Mod on Minecraft then there’s an actual Weather Effect called Acid Rain which not only damages players, and mobs in the world, but also makes garden corps and vegetation spoil faster while ALSO Raining Slime Mobs from out of the Sky.

It makes me disappointed that DSTs Lunar Hail does not do something Similar, and Klei promised it would get future updates, they even slowed down their content production schedule to insure we got higher quality updates, yet Lunar Hail… still seems to just be Surface version of Earthquakes where rocks konk you on the head every now and then.

Thats it though, it doesn’t do anything else… it doesn’t kill mobs, it doesn’t rain shards of glass down from the skies to hit Spiders turning them into the Shattered Spider types we find on Lunar Island, its really really “Basic” & that’s honestly: Lame.

After an earlier thread i'm conviced we need diferent gamemodes so everyone can have their fun.

Technically it already has at least 5, the problem however is that they aren’t different enough to actually matter.. People playing on Relaxed Mode with Reduced Damage Taken certainly don’t need to still fight a 27,500hp boss.

And players playing on lights out mode shouldn’t be able to use character perks that make them Immune to dying in Darkness. (I got a horrible feeling Webbers Skill tree will come with Free-Night Vision) it makes sense considering that spiders sleep at day and are active at night in the game but… It would also make him miss the entire point of playing “Lights Out Mode”

So under this certain mode: even if he does get night vision in his skill tree, it shouldn’t work for this mode.

I agree if we actually get more modes they should balanced around the proposal per se, i just want the game to be well, the amount of discordance between the fandom is scary, and Klei silence in relation to rock lobsters and great depth worm too. I wonder what will be on this year roadmap, and hope it's good for everyone like the ocean QOL last year.

There's literally acid rain in the caves with the shadow rifts active. This temporarily mutates batilisks while active, so mutating mobs with hail isn't out of the question.

However, if spiders are transforming into shattered spiders, that's an issue because they're incompatible with the den. Which means more spiders spawn, which mutate, ad infinitum.

They could just stick with the reanimation theme, where killing stuff during the hail causes it to mutate like on lunar islands.

The Lunar Island is a huge chunk of the moon (later revealed to be some sort of celestial god) that broke off and feel into DST creating Lunar Isles and mutating it’s inhabitants (spider to shattered spider, ground carrot into living Carrat etc) this is lore that was established back in like 2019?

Its 2025 now and Lunar Hail: Which is smaller parts of that same Celestial God are raining out the skies.

It should transform Spiders (and their dens) to the same variants found on the Lunar Island. That’s not even debatable, it’s established lore that either A: Klei hasn’t had time to code the rest of the game around, or B: They got too much fan backlash and backed out of dropping the entire concept.

I hope that in the future we will go through the 3rd circle of character reworks. Let's say in the future the developers add more extensions to the skill trees and thus they will turn from regular skill trees into GREAT SKILL TREES! Or maybe they'll add more skill trees, I'm not against it in general. Overall, the game should move along the path of rework circles and stop at the 9th circle.

Each skill on skilltrees has a skilltree.

For example, with Blooming I on wormwood, you can choose between faster blooming, blooming faster when eating, or blooming faster when gaining excess sainity. There are 15 branches for each skill. Its like a fractal.

If Klei ever took this seriously then I would take every copy of DS & DST i own, I’d go to everyone’s house who I’ve ever bought copies of it for I’d gather them all up and would carry them out to find that legendary land field where they dumped all those ET Games. (Google it if you have no idea what I’m talking about)

And no I’m not joking, because at that point Klei completely loses every bit of respect I had for them.

Im hoping that your comment is intended as a joke, because I for one.. do not want more reworks, re-reworks, skill trees, Re-Worked Skill Trees, Rework/Skill Tree Changes and Tweaks etc etc…

A game like DS/DST needs new biomes (preferably large ones) needs reworks of existing biomes that feel highly outdated in the 2025, needs tons of interesting content for each of those biomes (resources, mobs that can spawn there etc..)

But what it does not need, is a 9th set of reworked skill trees.

Yes, it was a joke.

wow they gonna add cancer

It's a crab king drop, the cancerous carcinogen. You sprout crabby barnacles for defense, but eventually they restrict your movement and start attacking you.

I have been playing Minecraft a lot lately most namely with Add-Ons installed.

The one add on that quickly became my favorite was the “Morph” Add-On, while there are several variations of it.. the gist of the concept is that you can “morph” into any mob that can spawn in the game, but before they will Unlock you have to kill one of that mob type the traditional way first.

Depending on the Mod/Creator of the mod the mobs that you unlock will have their own unique or traditional/expected abilities.. AKA Morph into a Bee & you can fly, Zombie and you won’t be attacked by zombies and get night vision etc..

I do not know if such a mod exists in DST but I would love like hell for the developers to consider offering this up in some form of an actual paid DLC to DST… I want to play as the creatures in the game, and I want to have abilities and mechanics unique to those creatures.

There may already be a PC mod that does this, but in order for us Xbox players to have this same fun is if Klei offers it to us in an Official capacity.

I just want to be a Catcoon slowly creeping around and pouncing birds and storing the loot I collect in my stump..

This would probably be a HUGE amount of development work.. but I’m 100% certain if Klei actually wanted to green light a project of this extremity that they could maybe Hire some of the independent developers who made the morph mods for Minecraft.

I just feel like it would be cool as heck to have the Minecraft “Morphy” Add-On in DST, Kill an otter, play as otter!

some or all bosses wouldn’t be available for obvious reasons.

But if we’re discussing ideas of things we would have a ton of fun with if it were ever added to DST this is something I’d pay good money to see.

I do not know enough about this mod to know if it’s what I’m wanting in DST.. I knew that play as Critter mods exist for PC Version of DST, but I do not know how those mods actually play.

Like for example: If you can still do “Survivor” based stuff like mine with a Pickaxe then that is NOT what I’m asking for.

Im asking for each of the games mobs to have their own uniqueness to them.

You’d have to Morph back to your default survivor or Morph into a different mob to perform other tasks.

Minecraft has these and they are an absolute blast to play around with. And since DST is never getting Mods for Xbox.. I figured it would not hurt to ask for this as an official paid DLC mode. (Even if it’s a bizarre and unrealistic request it’s something Klei can consider having as a Vanilla or DLC Game Mode in future sequels or whatever)

The Play as Creature dst mod is mainly a meme mod you goof around in a pvp creative world with others since its not really fun outside of it.

We could have some kinda giant building structures in our worlds to become something of a 'milestone' or big achievements we could do. Maybe a statue of one of the factions you could make them victorious being Charlie or statue of progress or something cause Wagstaff doesn't look like a statue fit old guy.

There could be an Ocuvigil tower of sorts where we could reveal boss respawns and bosses themselves, next rift spawn locations or world hazards, could be used to observe players too.

Rift containment mega structure, to force a rift to remain open or closed on what it'll be wished to do in the location it's built, it could also overload the rift as a result causing more threats to come if used improper.

Apart of those, I wish we could expand the map more in one way or another. Imo we should be able to lift the veil and expand the sea whenever we wish to, maybe would reveal new lands we could turn into ours or be consumed back by the ocean.

please explain how forge and gorge killed the game

No updates for the actual survival game lead to the game being starved.

There is statistical evidence and many fan complaints back then about it killing the game. I remember... james... making a video on it too.
