Walter: 4 Boss Mini-Rush Day 1-17 Raw Testing Footage.

Recommended Posts

@_mylilsunshine_ heres that first autumn dfly kill with Walter, slingshot only boss fights.

Disclaimer: I did die stupidly on this run and rollbacked but it was a silly death unrelated to Walter's new found OP-ness. Apologies about the pauses (Muffin is a wee rascal) and dubious commentary :wilsoalmostangelic:

Timestamps:

  • Bee Queen - 1:00:55
  • Ancient guardian - 1:36:25
  • Nightmare werepig - 1:50:18
  • Dragonfly - 2:14:52

My feedback after this mini-rush test run:

  • Stinger rounds arnt that bad!
  • Special (magic) rounds shouldn't load into thulecite frame's special slot by default as it feels extremely clunky, I would rather be able to switch quickly between special and damage rounds while regularly firing. (skip to dragonfly fight to see what i mean)
  • Walter's skilltree has zero individual expression, i.e the loadout i have is what everyone is going to use. Need more skills and group up some of the different ammo types into a single skill, stinger and honey rounds can be a single skill, gunpowder and shock. Moon glass and dreadstone are powerful enough to remain as their own skills.
  • Badge progress isn't saving between worlds? Intended?
  • Walter is OP and its great. No nerfs pls...

Not to mention it would have been basically instant death if he got tagged even once with that armor load out.

For reference he'd have taken 22 damage per bee queen sting after armor and 13 damage per grumble sting after armor.

edit: my bad, I forgot to compliment your run.

nice run.

He was using only marble rounds for the rush, those are still hitting for 51 and have no new effects. It takes much less time if you use things like purple rounds aoe and new ammo damage from the skill tree, but in that case its no longer a rush.

18 minutes and Walter becomes a God afterwards... worth it :wilsoalmostangelic:

Nah i don't recommend using slow down rounds that early. It's better to use marble rounds to get the bee queen grip asap so you can use the slingshot 24/7.

True but agility badge woby makes kiting bee queen and grumbles pretty easy... just don't get greedy! Patience is key!

Yo nice run man, that's skill solution :chunky::encouragement: I'm doing a boss-run myself and Walter is quite good, but his range attack and Woby's speed give so much comfort that sometimes they also make you complacent, and overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer :confusion:

With this demonstration, and a video here Reworked Walter VS All Bosses (No Damage, Only Slingshot) - Don't Starve Together, you guys are looking for data like these, right? @V2C

I'm not saying it isn't possible personally I love the design the game sets a fight with a lot of risks involved and says if you can tame it your rewarded with one of the best upgrades to your slingshot immediately. What I was bringing to your attention however is the way you went about it was like doing a no armor boss fight it's a showcase of skill to be proud of but it's definitely something that would get most people killed.

Though I disagree he becomes god just stronger.

But it's easier to go no armour as Walter so it isn't that much of an increased risk.

Yeah if you get hit by bee queen you are dead but is that going to happen? Probably not. I'm not even that good at DST. So most people who are not complete noobs can do this fight now.

I disagree all it takes is getting caught off guard once and if your good enough that you'll never reach that point then really any boss fight that doesn't specifically have a mechanic that overwhelms normal kiting should be trivial.

But you can't be caught off-guard with bee queen. Grumble charge is televised with her screaming. Big woby is fast enough that if bee queen or grumbles manage to take a swing at you, they will still miss like what happened in my run.

Kiting with the slingshot is easier than kiting melee. So you don't need the same level of skill.

Once you have bee queen grip the slingshot is immensely powerful, needing to kill her makes it balanced tho. So i hope klei doesn't nerf it. Rushing bee queen first thing is the meta for Walter now.

All bosses have tells this doesn't really make a difference it's still a thin line between a armor less hambat boss fight your simply underestimating how hard doing it this way would be for most solo players.

No way is fighting armourless with hambat same as fighting armourless with slingshot. My dragonfly fight is hitless and dragonfly is one of the hardest bosses to consistently kite. Took zero effort to kite her with the slingshot because of how fast big woby makes you and the bee queen grip removing the startup windup. (Do not nerf jelly sticky grip, it feels fantastic)

Also, ty klei for releasing me from my shackles early. Able to  t̶r̶o̶l̶l̶.. post freely again :wilsoalmostangelic:

I'm saying the bee queen scenario would be like fighting a normal boss with just a hambat it's possible but unless your very careful with patterns your going to get taken out. It feels like your implying the default state of a armorless bee queen fight with Walter is that you would definitely win with even just a little skill I simply disagree your simply underestimating your ability people make mistakes.

pretty cool run. i agree that setting ammo right click should really swap out your first slot rather than placing such in the secondary fire for the thulecite slingshot, that felt kind of weird when I was testing.

i never would have imagined you would sound like that...

Aye the secondary fire is good for crowd control against hordes or for using honey/ick rounds but for single boss targets you want to be able to quickly swap out special and damage rounds on the fly.

And totally well deserved since you need to kill bee queen for it imo

Interesting, cause after spending most of my in-game time playing exclusively as Walter I would say the same without thinking twice, but judging by my friends' experience with him and my struggle with other characters (Except Maxwell) I'd just say the skills required as Walter is just too different from other characters.

Klei gave you an ironic moonlit shackle punishment?

They moonlight shackled me hard... I had to get moderated until end of December but they ended it early. I guess they thought since I took the time to give feedback they would throw me a bone... or klei got bored of approving my posts :wilson_ecstatic:

You should see my account tho, it's full red with warnings! No idea why, I'm a nice guy :wilsoalmostangelic:

In other words, Walter is incentvized to face his fears (bees) as early as possible.

Aye, it's quite fitting!

Or you could roll the dice and hope you get royal jelly from klaus' loot sack!

Walter's Bee Queen kill can be as quick as 8 minutes, you just need to get a shadow manipulator for slow-down rounds. 8 minutes isn't anything crazy but keep in mind that it's extremely easy to do damage-less, and in a multiplayer setting Walter can spawn-kill and stunlock grumble bees with moonglass rounds.

Of course, subsequent bee queen kills will be a lot faster with the jelly grip/void grip.

How fast you kill a boss isn't as important as how easy it is to kill a boss.

Walter can take 2 ingame days to kill bee queen using basic marble rounds and slingshot mods but it's an easy enough fight. Wendy requires more effort and player input to kill bee queen than Walter does, even if she can kill bee queen a lot faster.
