The thought came up in the other thread that a potential cause for the perceived difference between Abigails depth and strength was the usage of potionsnin regular combat. The poll this was based on only had like 25 responses, so lets see if we can get that higher, andnwith a morenin depth poll.

Apologies for spelling, am on mobile.

I voted other for the first question.

I do not use potions on most fights and never use potions out of combat. Here are the ones I do use and when:

  • Bee Queen: Nightshade Nostrum
  • Fuelweaver: Spectral cure-all (several)
  • Celestial Champion: Vigor Mortis (for phases 1 and 2)

Not just how you use them, but how often you used them.

Either Abi are fine without elixirs or Abi have to consume lots of elixirs. i would prefer to unsummon.

Its an interesting distinction that i didnt think much of.

I opted for the current question, because the discussion we had was about potions bringing out abigails combat potential.

Please add more reasons to the poll. I don’t use X potion because Y is more useful and since using Y erases X, I never use X.

They would see way more usage if we could apply more than one at a time, and NOT locked behind some stupid End Game park to obtain.

Thats like buying the 50$ Battle Pass for Batman Arkham Knight to get a bunch of Batmobile skins you can’t even use until after you complete the entire campaign, and that point there’s nothing left to do but joyride in an empty objectiveless world.

In addition to potions erasing one another, Klei devs just recently on their own beta live stream acknowledge that trying to manage your inventory while in combat using a game controller was Unfun.. So trying to apply potions in a boss fight is just.. it’s well…

Best just to apply the one you think is best and wing it.

I surprisingly find myself using Vigor Mortis more often than I thought I would; I guess I just like the QOL of Abigail not lagging behind.

Vigor Mortis is useful for me in boss fights of ancient guardian, celestial champion (I & II), and toadstool before it can punch the grounds.

No matching option for me, I don't like potions but I will use them in certain condition if necessary.

I won't collect mourning glory intentionally for plenty of potions. Only if there's no urgent affair and I find a  pipspook in my way, I will try to craft a potion. If I want to clean up a spider forest, I may use it. But I'll never carry all kinds of potions in daily life.

Only "don't use it at all" could represent my attitude but that's not true, so I have to choose "others".

In this pile of potions (not including new ones), I only use two restoratives and never use anything else

So what looks like a lot of options is really only one

I only use them on Bee Queen and multiplayer Frog Rain (because the number of frogs increases with players).

The main reason is that I don't think the benefits of using them are worth the extra effort of doing pipispook minigame. In most cases, basic Abigail doesn't do too badly, while in other cases it's better to use non-character-specific solution.

I treat it as more of a choose which potion will be best for this particular situation.. because like I said.. they don’t stack and applying new ones erases the other one.

So if you were using Nightshade Nostrum to deal Night Time increased damage, but then Abigail’s health got super low in a fight you’d need to apply a healing potion which erases the Nostrum, you’ll then need to apply a second NSN to re-apply the damage buff, and this cycle will continue throughout the entire fighting activity.

So you either need to bring a whole freaking bunch of potions knowing they will be wasted the moment you have apply a different effect, or you pick the best option for the particular situation (shields for large frog rains) and hope for the best.

There are three ways Klei can make this less cumbersome, Option One: Increase the amount of potions we get in crafting them to be “stacks” instead of just one potion.

Look the ingredients for Elixers have to be gathered from all around the constant, and UNLIKE Wickerbottoms spell books (which also have to be gathered all around the constant) Potions do not have a % Durability on how many times you can use them before they are used up.

Which leads me to Option Two: Give Potions a Durability % so they can be applied multiple times throughout a fight like using Wickerbottom spell books.

OR Option Three: Allow us to apply 2 or 3 Potions at the same time, which will allow me to do things like apply vigor Mortis speed buff, health potions & Nightshade damage all at the same time to Abigail.

Yes people see Wendy as OP even the DEVELOPERS see Wendy as OP… but I am here to be the #Wendy Main who is the voice of logic and reasoning.

And if you can see how the above paragraphs of text would make Wendy not as fun as say Wickerbottom and her spells, then surely you can see that Wendy needs some love and care in how her combat & potions are intended to be used.

And we can’t ever get that if people are always showing off expert skilled videos of Wendy being OP killing all bosses.

My question to those people is how many hundreds of potions did they need to burn through?

I don't use potions all that often, usually Revenant Restorative if Abigail is low in small fights (dogs/spiders/bee queen/klaus) and Spectral Cure-All if she's dying faster (worms/guardian pigs/krampi in klaus fight). If she's dying too fast or will die too fast (boss fights), I just unsummon her. I also use Distilled Vengeance for frog rain specifically and only. Normally, however, I am used to not using potions, so good positioning, taking aggro for her, etc. I am lazy for pipspook hunting but I don't use the Mourning Glories enough to hate having to do it every so often. I also don't make the potions and carry them around; I carry the ingredients with me since I can use them for other things. I wish the basket thing would hold at least some ingredients as well and the Mourning Glories too. That'd be helpful, otherwise, I don't see myself putting any points in that branch.

Thats probably the correct play for kiting vast majority of the time, honestly.

edit: having finished this thread, i think i understand why people think abigail dies too fast.

I think the causal relationship of this matter is:

I don't use any spiritual medicine, so Abigail is prone to death

I put Abigail away and fought alone, which is more convenient than making elixirs

Doubtful, the majority opinion is putting one potion on in the start of combat and thats it. If that were the case people not using potions at all would be the most common selectiin

The problem is that two potions cannot be used at the same time...In addition to the camp potion

That is absolutely not the problem because people dont seem to change potions very often, but even if it was I would be *very* cautious about letting abigail take enhanced speed and night level damage, or other combos like stacking cure all with everything. I think that gets out of hand very fast.

When I play Wendy I use potions, but always really hated the Pipspook chore.

I haven't played with those Pipspook perks yet much this beta (console testing vs real runs so far for me). I might do real runs if it looks like the devs abandon Wortox changes.

The people vocally hating Wendy's state right now could be explained by them never using the new potions, maybe? If I'm being generous. The new stuff really does seem to solve a lot of her problems, in testing.

In my view, the whole skill tree nearly failed to bring anything new.  Gravestone skills allow Wendy find Pipspook easier; Pipspook skills let Wendy get more Mourning Glory; Elixir skills enable Wendy to squeeze more elixirs.

Almost the entire whole skill tree means to offer Abi more chances to survive. Still nothing really new here, because it is just offering new tools to fix the same old problems, and the old problems is never gonna be fixed.

Wraith Wreath is a good one, if Klei can improve it.
