Flydo is cool, but it needs a lot of polish

Recommended Posts

I like the little flying bugger. It's nice to have an extra hand around the colony for those unending delivery tasks. I've ran into a few problems though:
- It is extremely easy for them to get stuck inside a tile whenever they participate in a construction project
- They tend to idle around where their last task was, which proved inconvenient to me in a few situation
- There is no way of moving them or shutting them down as far as I am aware

I wish I could relocate them like items & critters. I also wish I could control where they idle. A new building to designate where they idle would be appreciated (and bonus points if said building allowed them to idle without consuming energy.)

I really appreciate how easy they are to get going! But I also wish I could do a little more with them. With the DLC all about boosters (and bionics) I was hoping I could upgrade them in some way (especially since with their current speed, 400kg carrying capacity feels dreadfully low over long distances.) I'm not sure how much can be done, but it would be awesome if installing some boosters allowed them to perform basic actions like digging or farming, maybe at the cost of a significant power increase.

I feel like it would be nice if you could program them to only patrol some selected area, like you can just limit them to a few rooms or certain corridors.

Apparently since they don't open doors, you can use them like this to restrict to some areas for farms and such.

As for farming, we got remote worker stations, I expect this is one area devs do not want automation.

I was going to bring up the fact that they can't open doors because they couldn't reach some construction projects I was working on, but realized that the not being able to open doors is useful for restricting them to certain areas.

I can totally see imagine why having them farm would be OP. I hadn't thought it over too much, I just thought it sounded cool.

They can definately be used to effeciently replace auto sweepers in a room by blocking off their access to just that room, putting two of them in there, and adding a small alcove with a power bank recharger and a spare power bank or two. But more control may be nice

It would be perfect if there was a structure that gave the option of creating an action area for their work, in addition, the structure would be used for them to remain idle near it and it would use energy to charge their battery. The energy charging would have a maximum range and the work area could just be a square selector of the place where they can move.

We need an OXYGEN BAR!

A recreational building specially for bionics, but also has high deco so regular dupes will like to be around it. And bonus moral points if you pump it with oxygen that has floral scent, just like how zombie spores are used to make biobots. The Bionics will hang around the oxygen bar during idling and refilling. It'll be adorable!

the existing cannister filler will still work, it just gives no bonuses and bionics will prioritize the oxygen bar.

On the flipside, maybe have a battery bar! with all the batteries lined up like a mini-bar you see in hotels. The bionics will hang around it and carefully select a battery as if they're selecting a nice cocktail. And they'll drop their empty batteries around the bar allowing for easy pickup by an autosweeper.

I find the soda fountain and espresso machine adorable. It would be a shame if the bionics couldn't at least join in with their own unique rec building!

That sounds awesome. Imagine if the bar requires duplicant operation. And it is a cooking task.

Maybe just having storage things all around with batteries inside would be better. But this thing.. I'm thinking about bionic dupes waiting in line for their battery shot. Visibly bored, like critters waiting for grooming.. or just waiting for a slow bartender!:wilson_ecstatic:

The espresso machine I can see, but the soda fountain?  Really?  I would have built an entire rec room around it if it looked like something out of an old school soda bar.  But alas, it's just a block of metal.

I don't mean the machine itself, but the animation of dupes standing around it and getting buzzed from fizzy drinks. to me that's adorable.
That's what i want to replicate with the oxygen bar or the battery bar. The bionics standing around and looking adorable going about their routine of selecting a battery like it's some vintage fine wine.
