any good suggestions for a beginner's guide?

A Friend of mine is getting into dst, most beginner's guide videos are quite old; do you guys have any suggestions?

They're a complete noob, and I'll be helping them but they asked for a guide from me, so I'm looking for one.

let them learn on their own unless they can't get past something, learning this game is the best part.

What Ant said. If you play with them answer their questions. All they need to really know are the controls, after that it is pretty self explanatory. Oh and disable lag compensation.

If it is enemies they are struggling with, then simply typing in "How to dodge <creature name>" will usually show a result of how to dodge their attacks.

i think your best bet is if your playing with them answer questions as they come up 

most "beginner guides" are gargantuan so someone new is most likely gonna miss or forget specific bits of key information from a long video

In my opinion, what you should do is to give them an overview on everything. Tell them about where to base what to collect what to run away from what feeds and what hurts and especially what heals. Then go from there. Also definitely don't talk about charlie. Continue the ritual.

I like some of Jakeyosaurus's vids, though to be very honest, when I was just starting out, I did find his beginner's guide to be a bit overwhelming. 

My recommendation for recent beginner guides would be POXAR Txe's "The EXTREME Survival Guide (Full Year)", it includes basics like game settings, and gives a nice overview of the seasons. For basic base building tips, there's "The ESSENTIALS for Base Building in Don't Starve Together" by JustExo.

The Chosen One also has "Ultimate Exploration Guide (Beginner's Guide)" that is quite informative! It's admittedly a long watch, but offers a fair bit of insight. (Comments from the vid are also helpful!)

I hope your friend likes DST!

This game is meant to be played mostly blind. If you spoil how to survive it becomes an easy game and you get bored faster. Tell your friend to go blind and get fun learning

Is like looking for a guide for professors layton or something...

it contains misinformation about some thing from what i remember, since they looked at world gen instead of code for making a conclusion about that

base building isn't essential for playing the game so that sounds kind of stupid unless those were tips about decoration

i would generally recommend not looking at any thing that contains "EXTREME", "DEFINITIVE", "ULTIMATE", "COMPREHENSIVE" or other click bait garbage in the title

Yep, iirc the content creator has acknowledged that issue too (hence I mentioned reading the comments, some viewers added useful corrections). I thought the vid was still nice as a general guide, but that's just my personal preference.

As far as I can remember, I think the vid was just about mentioning which structures are nice to have at base, e.g. ice box and stuff. I just thought it has nice information for beginners to have because there's so many things to craft & build in this game and can be overwhelming for some, hence I recommended it! Not necessarily saying that base building is essential for playing the game, ofc.

That's fair, for me as long as the vid content itself turned out to be fine I'm not too concerned about vid titles as many content creators are just trying to get on the algorithm's good side anyway, but I see where you're coming from. 

At the end of the day I do agree w/ others on the thread that playing blind is the best way to experience DST, but OP asked for guides, hence the recs!

1  he is ok and good enough to kill any boss 

2 you are exaggerating it’s not the worst and it’s not that slow and you can just speed it like 1.5 or 1.25 and him reading the wiki is enough because I don’t went his opinion and I watch him because he is literally a wiki and I don’t think that is a bad thing and not like he is actually reading wiki for his latest videos he stop doing that

He is entertaining to watch and explain what he does when he play and I think that is good enough

That I disagree. He has his own style of playing which is fine, he gets through the game fast. His editing though... He is the most brainrotted dst content creator by far and keeps adding uncomforting sound effects to his videos like anime girl moans. And his "guides" are just a playthrough.

I think that just exo guy's how to improve in don't starve together is a good primer for what you can expect from this game as well as outlines some basic options that new players can benefit from

but yeah, the best guides are just the friends we made along the way, helping someone who's new with the mindset that they're new and this game's hard is the best way to get someone into the game, just remember to be patient with them and try not to overwhelm them with information that isn't relevant to the immediate problems. 

there's never really gonna be a guide that covers everything in a reasonable manner, but if they have any questions/concerns and you don't want to be their only source, finding other players and groups to play with is always something that's helpful in the long term

Hope you and your friend have fun! remember that this game's hard when you don't know everything about it, and try your best to help them when you can!
