Which character do you think this newest update will benefit most?

Just wondering if you have any special strategies for certain characters in mind with this update. For me, this definitely makes me want to try Wendy + Beefalo taming again. Haven't really done that since I just started to play DST. Another obvious one is Shadow-Aligned willow. She'll feel even more OP now but still needs to follow an interesting progression. You can even start with a lunar fire build and transition to shadow alignment after AFW with her which is also pretty cool.

Considering that Klei redesigned the entire caves infrastructure specifically for her, I have to be biased on this and say Winona & her vine bridges.

But also as an added bonus, Dead ghost players who can now easily float back to a cave exit instead of having to travel an underground maze of invisible walls.

I deeply wish they would’ve let goose Woodie be goose Woodie though, nah he didn’t need the ability to freely flap about over the abyss, but taking a good running jump and flapping across small gaps as Woodie (similar to boarding onto a boat or off a boat) would’ve been a no brainer addition to make playing him even greater.

Maxwell.

-Cudgel is really easy to get with Codex Umbra. It gives tier 2 buff to duelists, so a good early game weapon for Maxwell.

-Beefalo crafts are usefull for every character, but considering how beefalo heavy Maxwell's gameplay loop is, I think it's safe to say that Maxwell benefits the most from them.

-Shadow crafts are again, usefull for other characters but even better for maxwell since they are a shadow craft and fit Maxwells progression better than most characters.

As if that wasn't enough in terms of gameplay, Whole Rabbit king/Lucky rabbit stuff is also releated to Maxwell's lore. So there's  that. lol.

All of this + in particular:

shadow prison + hold f at max distance with gloomerang = modded character gameplay. 
 

maxwell just becomes more and more of an abomination and theyve yet to give him a skilltree

This will make Walter so worthless it might actually encourage Klei to buff Walter or release his skill tree update

Seriously. Both wanda’s and max’ shadow equipment affinity buffs were already really strong when it was basically just dsword and night armor and its just really gone off the deep end since the addition of the dreadstone set

Completely free self repairing thul tier protection is just completely unreasonable. 

And now ofcourse the increasing amount of endgame void equipment. Its absurd

It's interesting that Wolfgang always benefits from every update, but they only complain about the other characters.

Wanda is the only character who doesn't benefit from Shadow Maul. Wolfgang, as always, is the one who benefits the most out of everyone.

Wanda benefits from Gloomerang at 37.5 health, but Wolfgang benefits more at full health.

But the problem is Wanda, not Wolfgang.

Wanda is most likely favored because of her extra damage with shadow-affinity tools, and perhaps less so because of her teleports. She still has to explore the world normally, and the voidwalking nerf affects her as well.

Wortox might be less impacted by the loss of voidwalking, and his powers become a lot more valuable. In that regard, Winona would also have a decent advantage, but maybe she aligns more closely with Wanda. Somewhere between Wortox and Wanda, I think.

Still, all of this is subjective to the people voting, not based on pure science.

As for OP's question, the whole update is an unintended Maxwell buff (not that I'm against it anyway)

Don't think void-walking or lack thereof affects her at all does it? Not after the first winter anyway. I used to be a Wanda main and even with the post-rift stuff I used her alarming clock 99% of the time (Kills brightshades almost as fast as void gear). Usually the void cowl + reaper only versus the tougher planar bosses. What makes the mauler really powerful is the health-steal which doesn't work on Wanda. And why even use the Gloomerang when you have to be old age to slightly take advantage of it? Her alarming-clock still beats it even against easier mobs (e.g. versus spiders). The best dark armor for Wanda is really probably just a dreadstone helm. It's been proven recently that you can literally just tank all bosses with dreadstone + marble suits. And well a dreadstone helm + bone armor can be even better. Though now that we've had this discussion I can see how the void-walking nerf slightly buffs Wanda. The new bunny gear also buffs Wanda because now you can build a bunny army to compensate for the lack of an AOE. When I build bunny houses I find it easiest with Wanda because you can go back and forth between ruins and base, and kill dragon fly or the twins relatively easily. Just need to make a bunch of construction amulets and decon staffs and you can get 20 bunny houses in like no time at all.

Now imagine going down to the ruins early (day 6) with a single healing clock and coming across Lurking Nightmare and having to dodge the counterattack he gives when hit.

Just sick of new weapons, armor, bosses, convenience items. I want more stuff like Acid Rain, and Hail, things that spice up the survival aspect of the game.

Max and likely Wanda a little bit. Anything shadowsided is bigger benefit for by default shadow aligned characters than others. If it's unrelated to their powers then it's nothing more than another thing to them.

I voted Maxwell but Wortox finally feel more viable to soul farm in birds thanks to gloomerangs. Ice staves are Soo last year for him after this update.

Nah, better get optional easy encounters and weapons that allow the player to deal damage without risk

is hilarious how BS cant fight back the gloomerang...they are only few updates afar from each other but klei didnt considered them when adding this new weapon

In all updates, Wolfgang usually benefits the most from weapons and armor, and no one creates a topic talking about it.

Then comes an update for the shadow side, which continues to benefit Wolfgang absurdly, benefits Maxwell, and then comes this whining.

Don't Starve revolves around William Carter. He's the most interesting character and he has to be the most powerful dark mage in this game.

And I don't even play Maxwell.

Analyzing each of the 3 main items:

a) Nightmare Saddle: mainly benefits characters with low health. Wes is certainly the one who benefits the most, as he neutralizes many of his downsides.

b) Shadow Maul: Wanda is the only one who doesn't have any advantages in an item made for the shadow side. Maxwell is also not very useful, as his combat is through his auxiliaries and for those with 75 health, even the bat bat is OP. Wolfgang is the one who benefits the most. Wigfrid, who already gains health in combat, should become immortal with this.

c) Gloomerang: Wolfgang, Maxwell (Shadow Duelist tier 3 buff) and Wanda have increased damage. However, these 3 characters already have much better means (cost x benefit) to defeat most monsters. Only in some specific situations would it make sense to use this item. Maxwell using Shadow Thurible (tier 4) already defeats practically everything and only needs Nightmare Fuel to replenish the item. Wolfgang would use W.A.R.B.I.S. Armor + Brightshade Sword + Enlightened Crown. Wanda Alarming Clock which is good for all non-planar monsters.

There are many characters who will get a greater benefit from the combination of these items.
