Due to Pogs in solo DS, Otter & pirate monkey in DST, and now the Mimics- I really don’t think Klei encourages just leaving things lying around loosely on the ground.

There are other mobs that factor in too, MoleWorms, Catcoon, Lureplants.

All of which are designed to encourage neat item placement or else suffer the consequences.

Otters and monkeys open storage structures

Lure plants dont grow on a lot of turfs

But yeah, klei needs to think about everything when adding stuff to mess with players and one are items

It seems kind of weird that the GDW drops items it's capable of digesting. It should probably be more limited in the items it deletes, and it shouldn't drop light bulbs.

We could reasonably assume it digests minerals, bone shards, etc., more slowly than other items if we want to keep those. Light bulbs are of note because they spoil really quickly to begin with.

Perhaps consumed mobs should still have non-food drops? (Pig skin in this case being considered mob food.)

Ornery chests have a different icon that Ornate chests, which makes them easy to spot. I have no idea if this is intended or not, since while they are mimics, by the time they spawn, you're opening ornate chests in hopes that they're a mimic.

Also, I think that having to kill Fuelweaver while a rift is active, for the saddle and bell is a bit much. The saddle is strong against pre rift enemies and bosses, but bone armor and other rift weapons already trivialize those fights. And anything post rift knocks you off a beef. The axe is nice, you can't heal as much due to how fast paced the new rift bosses are, but still not rely worth all that. And the bell is nice as a failsafe, but by the point you get it... meh. Having to wait for Fuelweaver's cooldown to finish. As well as now having to wait for three new moons, atrium to summon Fuelweaver to begin rifts, atrium to summon Fuelweaver during rifts for ornery chests, atrium for the chest to eat, to get one of these items is not that great. Being able to craft one of these items before having to kill Fuelweaver again would be nice, maybe Fuelweaver could drop a possessed atrium or something idk.

Spoiler

sorry for the horrible image quality lmao, screenshot using game bar. Should have prob used Steam's screenshot. And this isn't an actual world, just one where I test stuff

These new mimics are finally giving me a reason to go open those chests. I tend to avoid them because they're so out of the way for the most part. They also open up the chance of a boss-tier mimic in the form of a Grand Mimic, possessing the Large Ornate Chest and making you work for your loot post-guardian.

This is a bug and it's marked as fixed meaning next patch they'll likely have the same icon.:encouragement:

My problem with the mimic chests is their loot. Why would they still give you spears after needing open rifts and fw killed? The ruins need some kind of loot rework. The labyrinth chests are terrible for the effort, and like, getting blue gems from ming the statues is so bad. Maybe if we reset the ruins after the rift is open, the loot could become a bit better, to fit the end game needs and all the effort and new difficulty, idk

If we want to get something like wagstaf's quest for trio bosses.

mb while you craft shadowheart item one lvl3 shadowChess boss spawns? each for different item. Mb they could have something extra like shadow rook when disappears leave dangerous pond. and each your attack deals damage to you. shadow bishop creates miasma where it flies. shadow knight starts acid rain and mb splits to lvl2 and then lvl1 copies of itself.

also i would like to have more places (and times) where (when) i can summon shadowPieces boss. Mb in atrium while key is inserted?

It's called videogame design and "video-gamey" style. I know ambience/lore in videogames are cool and all, but gameplay should be first top priority as always. This change of his loot table came from the community:

There is nothing wrong in him dropping lightbulbs and I don't find it wrong either. We fused gameplay with flavour ambience because if you didn't noticed, he doesn't drops only lightbulbs, but also glowberries, tentacle spots, a fork lol, guano (in fact other drops are missing, I'll talk this later). These are all symbols of the worm eating anything that he founds in the caves, like a shark, and so him dropping lightbulbs makes sense and it's a plus that could be always beneficial in the gameplay, not only for free loot but think about dead zones with no light like the Ruins. I even proposed in the same post, that we could make it even more intrinsic, that he drops, still randomly, but based on biomes. For example, if you kill him on green mushroom forest, there will be a high chance to drop green mushrooms in his loot table or high chance of thulecite and gems on the Ruins.

Most of all, we should wait before judge anything about wormy boi because these changes were not listed and we're talking about a beta of a beta of a beta. Let's wait when the promised worm hotfix will come.

how does big wormy play with big tentapillars? does they just ignore eachother?

Tested it. They super interact with each other, in the sense the wormy boi shreds the life out of big tentacle....

Glowberries are from the GDW's lure. The rest aren't edible.

Sorry, true on the glowberries. Although what it can be considered edible, is still a stretch. Moleworms, rock lobsters and slurtles to say a few, eat rocks. And I guess a fork should be disintegrated by his acids stomach. Also depth worms being the "sharks" of their environment, adapted by eating red gems and blue gems, making them immune to burning and freezing attacks. Again, don't see any problem with lightbulbs and hope more loot will be added.
