Possibilities for wendy skill tree

Recommended Posts

I play dst weekly with the same group of people and 4/6 of our characters already got skill trees, only Wendy and Wortox dont have them yet, so that got me thinking about what would be a good skill tree for them.

For Wendy, I feel like Klei should divide the skills in 3 main groups: pipspooks, abigail and potions.

The pipspook part would be mostly QoL content, taking less interactions to find the morning glories, finding more morning glories when they are satisfied and a weird option that might work as the end branch of this skill is the ability to create and destroy graves, meaning not only Wendy will have the ability to spawn more pipspooks, but also create graveyards for automatic ghost x werepigs farms every full moon.

Abigail is the reason why people play Wendy and her part of the skill tree should be the most important one, but I dont know exactly how. Increasing damage, health, move speed and regeneration would be a blatant copy of the bernie buffs in willow's skill tree, but it's all I can think of. Another perk could be increase the damage multiplier from the petals, but again, not very creative.

The potions part of the skill tree would be the part where creativity would be best, but definetely the first skill should be the ability to use more than 1 potion at a time. It could simply be a "you can use 2 potions at once" upgraded to "you can use 3 potions at once", but a more interesting addition would be something similar to wigfrid's song meter, which would let more potions be stacked with more battle time. After that, crafting new potions would be the obvious route, maybe have one that increases Abigail's armor and planar armor and another one that adds planar damage to her attacks. The possibilities are many, but by far the most important one is the ability to stack potion effects.

Finally, it's affinity time. Aside from the buff that everyone gets of damage increase/reduction against shadow and lunar entities, the affinity could be a direct buff to Abigail, increasing her damage and armor in the same way that maxwell's shadow puppets are buffed when he equips shadow aligned weapons, armors and helmets.

This is my idea, I think it could work, what do you guys think?

I ll repost my idea:
Allow Wendy's ghost to get out of Wendy body, Wendy will go to sleeping animation, Wendy ghost will now merge with Abigail (have 2 flower in both side, grow little bigger), and Wendy now in full control of Abigail. Merged abigail will have more hp, deal more damage.
Now you can actually control Abigail to dodge boss, damage boost allies...

The upcoming update releasing probably sometime this month won’t contain any character skill trees, and since we won’t get another update after this one for another 3-4 months… this was as close to OCTOBER as a Game Content update for DST was going to get.

Im disappointed that Wendy won’t be getting her skill tree, but at the same time I don’t want Klei to rush it with bland ideas of “More stats for Abigail” without actually making playing as Wendy more fun and engaging beyond that. So I suppose there’s NEXT October ;)

First of All: Abigail is fine as she is. She's simple but exceptionally well designed, and aside from some minor stat buffs or interesting new potions she doesn't need modifications. For her section of the skill tree:

  • Boosted Hex Effect: 1.1 -> 1.5 -> 1.25
  • Shield potion that replaces normal shield with a new one that reduces to 1/2 damage every 5 seconds or so on hit
  • Increased Mourning Glory Payout 1 -> 1.5 -> 2

Wendy on the other hand is significantly less versatile, and the focus of her tree should be to give WENDY more unique aspects, not Abigail:

  • Improved Telltale Hearts: Reduced HP Cost -> No Max HP Penalty -> Improved stat restoration
  • Ability to 'Haunt' objects like ghosts while alive
  • Ability to repair touchstones
  • Ability to decorate graves in exchange for rewards with pretty varying cooldown:
    • Petals -> Mourning Glory
    • Gold -> Thulecite Fragments
    • Glommer Goop/Wings -> Old Bell Very Old Bell (Weaker Old Bell)
    • Iridescent Gem -> Boss Drop (Klaus Stash as reference)

While Abigail will inevitably get the same Planar skill as every other follower mechanics, I desperately don't want her to be stuck with the Wigfrid/Willow "Enjoy % Extra Damage" treatment, and want her to get something closer to Willow's alignment perks. The lunar potion is for those who don't like relying on Kiting with Abigail to fight bosses, while the shadow potion acts similarly to an Abigail based Maxwell Prison. The immunity to Gesalts aligns with Wendy's natural resistance to sanity auras, while the Charlie immunity references hide and seek, with Charlie caring for Wendy.

  • Lunar Alignment:
    • Abigail Lunar Planar Mechanics
    • Hex Potion that decreases Abigail's damage to 0, but renders her immune to damage while still applying hex
    • Resistance to gesalts (2 hits -> 3 hits)
  • Shadow Alignment
    • Abigail Shadow Planar Mechanics
    • Trap Potion that prevents enemies within a radius of Abigail from moving/escaping said radius
    • Immunity To Charlie

one of my hopes is that they take out the useless shield potions she has and just puts them in the skill tree and replaces those potions with funner stuff

but also something abigail desperately needs is a skill that reduces damage she takes by like half since rn she takes double damage from most things

but my biggest hope is just they give wendy SOMETHING that isn't combat related and also something to do with flowers in general

It's going to be hard to not make Wendy OP because as it is today you can be doing Wolfgang + darksword level damage and all it takes is a ruins rush and beefalo taming. The more advanced mechanics of Wendy is managing the right potion and positioning with Abby. For example, if you don't use Vigor mortis vs Ancient Guardian , abby dies within the first few hits, if you don't  kite  AWAY from abby in the Twins fight she dies almost instantly too. So part of the fun in her mechanic is you got that glass cannon type thing versus any monster above a spider. It's pretty cool how abby can't 1 on 1 a tallbird but with a war saddle beef that same tallbird goes down in just a few hits. Planar resistance would make her useful versus post-rift bosses for sure and I do like the idea of being able to upgrade abby like Maxwell does his duelists. I think if it focuses JUST on damage while leaving abby as fragile as she is versus stronger mons and monsters it would be fine. And it makes sense lore-wise cause isn't she his niece?

I have just discovered “Ghost Orchids” are a very real flower type and those look sooooo cool that I’d love to have them be part of Wendy’s skill tree update, bonus points if they can be a new mob type or something (kinda like lunar moths) I just picture these things floating around in the air like actual little ghosties.

for anyone who doesn’t know what a ghost orchid is.. it is THIS!

I'm fan of Wendy, but sincerely im rookie at DST. Add an ?? because not sure about numbers, but this are my ideas for Wendy Skill Tree:

Two main skills tree: Ectoherbology (Wendy) and Abigail

A) ECTOHERBOLOGY/WENDY (14 POINTS TOTAL)
1.    Pick evil flowers without lost sanity
2.    Convert petals to dark petals (restoring 10?? health).
3.    Ectoherbology lab. Unlock potions (for Wendy or other player´s use) created from DST plants based on Wendy examining. Some suggestions:
a.    Joy potion. 2xPetals+2xAshes=+15 Sanity
b.    Artic potion (reduce overheating). 2xFoliage+4xDarkPetals+2xIce= 30?seconds
c.    Safety potion. 1xSucculent+2xPetals+4xDarkPetals=+30Health+15Sanity
d.    Burning potion (reduce frezzing). 2xLightBulb+4xDarkPetals+2xAshes= 30seconds?
e.    Fleeting potion. 1xLichen+1xBoneShards+4xDarkPetals=+5speed(4minutes)
f.    Knives potion. 1xCactusFlower+1xStinger+4xDarkPetals=Increase damage character 1.5x??seconds
g.    *Rose potion. 1xRose+2xPineCone+4xDarkPetals= Shield XX seconds

*PADLOCK 3 points prerequisite Wendy's tree (ISOLATED). Magic herbology. Unlock known recipes, can craft pan flute and nightmare fuel from dark petals without prestihatitator

*PADLOCK 3 points prerequisite Wendy's tree (NEW TREE). Ectoherbology for summoning. Unlock potion for summoning pipspooks. Suggestion: 4xDarkPetals+1xMourningGlory+1xButterfly
1.    Friendly Ghost. Unlock potion for summoning a protective ghost (non-combat) that emits light and sanity aura of a friendship. Suggestion: 8xDarkPetals+1xMourningGlory+2xLightBulb=2minutes summoning??.
1.1.    Increase summoning time 5minutes??
1.2.    Increase summoning time 8minutes??

2.    Servant Ghost. Unlock potion for summoning a ghost servant (non-combat, similar to shadow servant). Suggestion: 8xDarkPetals+2xMourningGlory+2xCutReeds=4minutes sumonning??
2.1.    Increase by 2 summoning ghost
2.2.    Increase by 3 summoning ghost

3.    Combat Ghost. Unlock potion for summoning a combat Ghost (base aggresive mob without sanity aura. H=200, D=15, AP=1.2, RS=2). Suggestion: 8xDarkPetals+3xMourningGlory+1xCactusFlesh=2minutes sumonning??
3.1.    Increase Stats. Health=300, Damage=20, Attack Period=1.1, Running Speed=3.
3.2.    Increase Stats. Health=600, Damage=40, Attack Period=1, Running Speed=5.

B) ABIGAIL (8 POINTS TOTAL)
1.    Increase sisturn efficiency. Petals perish in 8 days.
2.    Increase more sisturn efficiency. Petals perish in 12 days.
3.    Increase maximum sisturn efficiency. Petals perish in 16 days.
*PADLOCK 3 points prerequisite Abigail tree (ISOLATED). Sisturn emits light.

*PADLOCK 3 points prerequisite Abigail tree (NEW TREE). Abigail Stats. Increase running speed to 6.
1.    Curse target. Increase ghostly petals vulnerability to 30%?.
2.    Increase maximum Abiail health to 960.
*PADLOCK. Haunting. Abigail can haunt when is at máximum health.

C) LUNAR AND SHADOW ALIGNED
Not idea about lunar and shadow aligned skills, but should be one for Wendy (ectoherbology) and one for Abigail in each aligned (4 points total)

Thanks for reading. Marco from Mexico.

I will list a few of my assumptions regarding Wendy's skill tree, which I am most confident in:

1. There are a huge number of followers of different types in DST. Wendy is the only character who can interact with ghosts. So she should be able to tame regular ghosts as minion followers.

2. The current mechanics of using potions are a relic of the past. Wendy should be able to use potions at a distance right during combat (maybe she will throw them like grenades). It would also be good if the potion she threw acted in an area and could affect several tamed ghosts at once (including Abigail)

3. The Sister's Urn is very cute, but in fact it is useless. Probably, an upgrade of the Sister's Urn will be possible that will give permanent effects. Perhaps the restoration of sanity will be in a large area, and if you interact with the urn, the restoration will be greatly accelerated. If the sanity recovery was faster than in the tent, it would make sense. The second option for developing the sister's urn is a permanent buff for Abigail, so that she, as a ghost, does not have to gain strength from scratch and she is always with a buff. Perhaps it would make sense to build several such Abigail altars.

4. Next, by analogy with how Abigail can fight, deal damage in an area, etc. Wendy should be able to empower the ghost of any player. Imagine that you and your friends went on a raid on another boss. A couple of people died in the battle, but Wendy throws a new certain potion at them that gives their ghosts the ability to attack (just like Abigail). This will allow you to finish the fight with the Boss, and not retreat.
But I must say that this "battle ghost" effect will be short-lived.

5. I also discussed her new crafts and it seems to me that given Wendy's love for Ectoherbology (or maybe just Herbology), she should probably collect more flowers and use them in crafts. The only things that come to mind are various flower crowns that could give random buffs to Wendy, Abigail, or other characters. It would be funny if such flower crowns could be put on any character and their followers.

6. Well, the final suggestion that I would like to see in this game is the "sacrifice aspect". Yes, it may be cruel, but the developers and designers can show it not so cruel. The main thing is that there is this aspect and the meaning in it. And sacrifice (possibly even using revival altars in the world) has almost limitless possibilities.

I'm glad that I shared these ideas somewhere, thanks for reading)

An update of my skill tree ideas for Wendy:

WENDY

1. Dark soul. Pick evil flower and be near without lose sanity. Turn petals to dark petals at -5 health cost.

2. Grave keeper. Wendy will no longer lose sanity from grave digging and increase a 50% chance to spawn a Ghost when digging up a Grave. In addition, Wendy can bury Bone Shards x2 in open graves on new moon to make them renewable on the next new moon or after this. The renewable resources will have the already setting chance and random for graves.

3. Funeral bouquet. Recruit a ghost by giving it a garland (same time as a pig).

4. Ectoherbology lab. Unlock new potions (for Wendy and other player’s use) created from DST plants based on Wendy examining. Some suggestions:

Not enoght experience about lunar and shadow aligned skills, but should be one for Wendy (potion) and one for Abigail in each aligned (4 points total). The potions could be Pure horror potion (24) and Pure brilliance potion (26) and Abigail should show a version Shadow Abigail (25) and Lunar Abigail (27).

my-ideas-about-wendy-skill-tree-v0-qvrcrggrzz1e1.jpg

A lot of cool ideas, but some thoughts:

  • I really don't think Wendy needs the ability to summon more ghosts, We already have multiple survivors with the ability to summon unique hordes like Merms & Spiders
  • I know it kinda has to happen for gameplay purposes but I really don't like the idea of shadow/lunar Abigail. The shadow and Lunar merms were described as: "It was a merm once, not anymore" and "It's been mutated nearly beyond recognition," and as such the idea that Wendy would do something similar to her beloved sister is weird. If it has to happen i'd prefer it to be tied to the sisturn (Dark petals & Lunar blossoms) or a temporary potion, rather than a permanent transformation. That is just my opinion though.
  • In a similar vein, while I like the idea of her being able to repair graves, I don't like the idea of her being able to rob graves for free. I feel like that goes against her character of being very particular about death. Instead, Maybe let her repair touchstones in the world.
  • The locked abigail skills are cool, but to get there is a lot of filler. Abigail's sanity management is already pretty much free, and doesn't need two additional skills to improve it, running speed while riled up seems unecessary, if Abigail needs speed, you can give her vigour mortis, and replace it while in combat, or with your skill tree have two potions at once.
  • The potions for players are interesting, and I like the idea of locking them behind inspecting plants of the constant, but they're currently incredibly unbalanced (1.5x damage buff is insane), and I don't know if they particularly give Wendy a unique identity once unlocked.
  • I don't think Wendy needs two skills dedicated to fixing Pipspook mechanics, one should be enough.
  • The pan flute canonically belongs to Wortox, so while it's appropriate for Wendy, It'll probably end up with Wortox.

I generally like it though, so sorry if my comments com off as negative.

On my hands and knees, PLEASE let this update be the time

Wendy's in a really weird spot where she has two main issues - a lack of versatility outside of Abigail and an incredibly difficult learning curve, where she starts of stronger than pretty much everyone else, false to one of the worst when you're first learning Kiting, but once you get used to working with her wraps back round to being an incredibly solid character.

As such, I think the two most important parts of her skill tree would be to add variety to her playstyle while smoothing out her learning curve (notably NOT making her significantly stronger than she currently is at her peak).

No notes on 2, 3, 5 but I really don't think having ghosts as followers is necessary at all. We already have 2 horde based characters, All characters already have access to hordes, so I don't think we need to allocate skills to giving Wendy a fairly generic perk.

In regards to 4 & 6, I feal like Wendy's potential is as a combat support character. Abigail's hex is already one of the biggest steps in this direction. One that participates in combat, but isn't entirely focusing on DPS. The temporary ghost as a possible effect is good, and could work as a sacrifice, and I really like the idea of having Wendy utilize improved telltale Hearts, in addition to an AOE heal like Wortox..
