Did anyone say overminmaxed kitchen? No? Too bad!

After suffering to the curse of my old minmaxed kitchen setup not working, me and @Almoboi (some would argue just here for moral support) did some experimenting and found this. I won't even try to explain how it works. You need freehand, a lot of patience, or the base projection code which im happy to share, if provided instructions on how.

It's a 3:8 setup that works with any box or pot, and has true reach from every box.

Klei, if you break this setup too, I am going to cry.

The update they made to structure spacing has allowed the overoptimized kitchen to grow to heights never before possible. When I realized the possibilities the update brought to our beloved game, I immediately got to work exploring the new frontiers of gratuitously excessive cooking infrastructure.

BEHOLD.jpg.270b26b2de3eb5cbc378f73db69ff885.jpg

Behold the glory of my ULTIMATE WARLY KITCHEN. Ten crock pots all accessible from the central salt box (because you're gonna have more cookable things that belong in a salt box than in a fridge), two of which are Warly crock pots; a seasoning station and spice mill; a chest each for bundle-wrapped foods and Warly spices/nonperishables like volt goat horns; and a grand total of five food storage units (three salt boxes and two fridges).

If your character hasn't canonically gone to chef school, you can use the same design and just replace the Warly pots with regular ones.

what was your building method?

Trial and error. Throw things at the ground until it works, then save in base projector and hope Klei never removes it.

I believe a 1:10 setup already existed before the update. I prefer my 3:8 setup because im too lazy to take things out of the fridges if im going to cook a lot. I can see the appeal of 10 pots though. Also, can't you squeeze the chests into the box area?

you used to be able to do this by having two or more people all execute a build action at exactly the same time and build in tandem. i have no idea if that is still doable though

You can. You can also just do it yourself with the power of base projection, or trial and error.

but do you ACTUALY use more then 2 or 3 pots for the most part at the same time?

The question isn't why we should, it's if we can.

Do crockpots not prevent your character from walking on PC or something? I know on Xbox walking in to these OR Berry Bushes is like walking into a Brick Wall that prevents movement.

Cool photos, but otherwise inaccessible without point and click KB/Mouse Controls.

Klei needs to HEAVILY Nerf PC Version DST at some point

they do but you can just slip past them in this screenshot, i don't think you can place crock pots close enough together for them to block movement

the same goes for console dst

You can just walk through them in my setup, they changed bounding boxes in an update.

Also, no, they don't need to "nerf PC version". This is mainly a PC game. You're being held back by sucky controls on console and you need to accept that fact, not try to ruin everyone else's fun because you're jealous of what mouse and keyboard is capable of.

I really don't think 8 is minmaxed when you can make 10 or 11 in a circular format, or even if you wanted a hexagonal format, you could even manage 12 crocks.

But 10 makes the most sense. With 4 cycles, using each of the 10 crocks once, you get a full stack of any standard crockpot food.

It’s not about jealousy, it’s about inconsistency, Klei have expressed time and time again that their Pipeline goal for the Dont Starve Together franchise is to be Cross-Platform Multiplayer & before that ever happens things that you can do on PC but can half-arse do or worse not do at ALL on Console needs to be put on a equal playing terms, rather that means improving what’s possible on a controller, OR deleting some things PC has advantage with so they’re Nerfed to be on Par with other platforms- It’s a Necessary step.

And let me explain that to you more clearly since Klei has plans to also release DST on Mobile phones through Netflix sometime soon..

Mobile smartphones have an “Advantage” in being “Touch Screen” so obviously you can see how it wouldn’t be fair if Mobile players can quickly “tap” items in their inventory while consoles have to scroll using analog sticks through the whole list.

For these to be put on fair and equal playing terms, Mobile would need to use a virtual D-pad to scroll same as other consoles.

Otherwise Klei’s pipeline dream of crossplay DST is going to boil down to which platform is most optimal for play.

Now if Klei never makes DST crossplay, you won’t need to worry about “inconsistency” between platform versions.

So I’m ending this post by saying let’s stop with the whole “PC is the ultimate master race & consoles suck” debate, Because If you EVER Want Cross-Play…

Consoles need better improvements.

PC needs Nerfs to match Console after their best possible improvements.

And IOS/Android can’t have unfair faster advantages.

End of Debate? <3

For me, it's not about the biggest circle, I like my kitchens to be about the most boxes accessible to every single crock pot. I call it a true 3:8 because it's 3 boxes that all perfectly reach all 8 pots. If you want to mass cook something quick just make a line.

That's understandable, but I like the flexibility that my setup offers. As long as you have the stuff you need in the central salt box, you can cook as much as you want. Non-saltboxables like honey and ice do need to be put into your inventory first, but I see that as worth the effort.

It's a co-op game. Removing things from PC or mobile to make it "more fair" shouldn't be considered. It's not about making it fair, it's about making it fun.

If you take away everything PC exclusively has to offer from the game, you'd lose so many things the game would lose a lot of replay value and fun. No chatting, no custom servers, no mods, just vanilla and everything messy public servers have to offer, unmoderated.

More effort could be put into the console versions. Add tools to let modders submit their mods as free DLC for the console editions. Add a chat button, or a speech-to-text thing if typing takes too long. Add a cursor similar to what stardew on controller does you can access somehow, with an adjustable sensitivity. That'd make the builds you see on PC plausible.

Nerfing PC is not a neccesary step, it's a stupid one from both a gameplay and business standpoint. This game was originally designed for PC, thus it's optimally played on PC. That's just the reality of it, and they shouldn't have to remove features that've been there since the beginning just to make console players not feel left out.

I get where you're coming from, and I agree console is lackluster, but I think we can agree that adding more options to console will always be a better step than removing things from PC. That's why mechanics like aim assist exist on controller. To even the playing field without inherently removing anything from either experience.

tl;dr

removing things from PC or mobile to "even the playing field" is a bad idea in every way and instead adding things to console to make up for them is a really good idea klei should do.

Who doesn’t? Mass-cooking one dish out of one salt/ice fridge? Maybe you need healing food or you just got your hands on 40 meat.

Not even six crockpots is enough to cook without having to wait for things to finish.

I'd explain if I could but there's quite literally nothing else to it than trial, error and prayers. I don't have a construction method, I have unmedicated ADHD and too much free time
