In terms of size, when do you think a base goes from a “base” to a “megabase”?

  1. 1. You did read the title, right?

    • More than a screen wide
    • More than a few screens wide
    • Takes up a significant chunk of the biome
    • Takes up the entire biome
    • Begins to spread into multiple biomes

When the player is able to destroy, uproot or replace every naturally spawning resource from the biome & turn it into something else entirely… Thats when it becomes a Megabase.

Yeah I get that DST is a Multiplayer Sandbox game- But so is Ark Survival Evolved, Conan Exiles, 7 Days To Die, Lego Fortnite and Minecraft.

The difference? Players can literally destroy all the things in a biome on DST completely flatten out the land and then quite literally build a massive amusement park over it.

This wouldn’t happen if- like the games I mentioned above, resources, mob spawning dens etc… respawned over time.

Sure, you could still Mega-Base by incorporating the naturally spawning bee hives, hound mounds, etc into your base design (like building animal pens and farms or whatever) but… At least a world that’s existed for 10,000 days won’t have literal EMPTY biomes that have had every resource or hazard removed from it.

If a base has dockyard and a kitchen is it a megabase?

If the base was just uprooted turf, with nothing on it spanning a biome, is it a megabase?

When a player is able to remove all of a biomes resources and mobs and make an area into a flat and empty wasteland, that isn’t a Mega-Base… but it IS the Foundation for One.

Its like in real life if you go chop down a forest and put down a cement slab, it may not be the worlds largest shopping mall or casino yet, but it IS the foundation a slab to build one.

However DST is structured in a way that other games (including Minecraft) are not… the player can literally drive Merms into total extinction with only playing as Wurt or starting a new world being the only way to bring them back.

The Player can Destroy the hound mounds and take over the area as their own knowing they won’t grow back.

Pretty simple concept really. But most survival sandbox games I have played has never given the player the ability to remove the “survival” aspects of the game.

I don’t care if your so skilled at the game that you can kill the Hyper Form Omega Space 3 Variant of Misery FuelWeaver, that’s NEVER been my issue with mega basing…

Its the fact that the games biomes can become empty bare wastelands remodeled to the players liking.. that’s what crawls under my skin.

You can remake merms.

If you put new turf on the wasteland would that be a megabase?

If you broke a biome of cement slabs and planted trees in their place, would that be a megabase?

If it were minecraft would it be a megabase?

If you destroy all of the hound mounds, does that make it a megabase?

If the game had more survival and less sandbox, would that be a megabase?

If you WERE skilled, could you finally make a megabase?

If i crawled under your skin, would i be a megabase?

(i'm making a list of what you consider a megabase, it's already off the rails, off topic and wild. Please continue)

Basicly just said creativity makes you upset. Dst is pretty creative in its art style and game design, it's starting to make sense why you hate dst...

When you play 7 Days To Die, Conan Exiles, or even Minecraft sure you can get creative and build a base, you can dig all the way to the floor or remodel the entire game world- but what you can not do is remove hostile threats so the game just becomes a peaceful base building simulator.

Even if you completely flatten out the land in Minecraft, Night & Rainstorms will still spawn hostile mobs for you to have to deal with, on Conan Exiles there’s always at least two Alligators that spawn near my base I’ll need to kill.

The only threats you ever need to worry about in DST is hound waves, or Deerclops- But even those give the player audio cues warning them so they can offload their base and deal with them in a safer location.

Only the Deadly Brightshades actually invade your base, and those can be prevented by simply not building structures for the Brightshades to infest near your base??

I am deeply confused..

Pretty sure minecraft are more peaceful base building simulator than DST as you only need to plant torches and no mobs spawn around there. Not sure about other games, but consider you used minecraft as example and failed, i doubt if they are true.

Damn it's almost like learning the mechanics of a game nullifies them, you still deal with hounds and bosses, just like you deal with the alligators and zombies from other games. Your reasoning is so flawed on why megabasing ruins the game when in reality it just expands the possibilities you can achieve in the video game.

Let me ask this? Do you ever struggle with those things? Do minecraft zombies really give you that much trouble? Then place a torch. Do hounds give you trouble? Run to beefalo... that has been in the game since they were added. Or just place a flingo and kill then in base...
