Once I was discovering he depths of Don't Starve youtube I found some comment that inspired me to write down this suggestion.

I'd like to see opinions on an idea to add visual insanity effects to specific character and their fear or trauma. For example Wolfgang could see some small shadow mice on the ground, just like that one which ruined his career in the Wolfgang animated short. Or like Maxwell hearing ragtime, Wilson seeing small spiders (I'm assuming he's got some fear of spiders according from his quotes), Willow having more terrorbeak observing her (but not attacking) and so on, feel free to share your opinion and ideas.

For my Maxwell mod I have a constant chance for shadowwaxwells appearing next to my Maxwell that either wave (shadowworker), attack him (shadowprotector), or dance to the ragtime song (shadowdancer) with their appearance causing him to lose some sanity.

I suppose this is as similar as it can get to your custom insanity effect of Maxwell hearing the ragtime song, so it can definitely be done and imo would be a hillarious actual in-game feature ^^

WXs would just be flowers, butterflys, and all the survivors wishing him well  and for some reason, a potato cup in the corner

Maybe he could see a silhouette of Wagstaff following him. Or maybe he starts remembering his past and he starts seeing himself as human but it flickers between his human self and robot self.

I feel SO sorry for WX but at the same time I would vote for this option

For Wilson I could think of something about that evil Wagstaff radio or the Maxwell door but I wouldn't be sure how to add it exactly. Also when using the Radio on a stick antenna in adventure mode he probably wasn't that traumatized about that Radio sending him to his doom, but...actually I don't know, it was just an idea. Or (sorry I love the first short SO much), Wilson could be mixing chemicals again ("funny insanity idle animation") causing another explosive reaction that leaves him with Cartoony-failed-experiment hair again for a moment. As a reminder that he isn't AS much of a successful scientist as he would love to be. ^^

Wilson could see the forgotten knowledge scribbles from the solo ds trailer and hear Maxwells voice from the radio.

OR once again reffering to my favour DS animation video:

Have the "secret knowledge" symbols spinning around Wilson (with a terrified expression like the "spooked" animation) like it spinned around him when the radio transmitted the secret knowledge onto him.

This is exactly what I meant with my addition above you just wrote it a moment earlier then I was able to x)

Yeah but in that trailer he gets a weird happy/mad appearance in his face. Maybe his face could be that instead of terrified.

Also true, though back then when he first got the knowledge he wasn't aware of the trap it would turn out to be. But then I love Wilson's "mad 'eureka' scientist" expression so sure it may overcome him again x)

I agree with this idea but there should definitely be a setting to turn off.

Or maybe it could be made to be hallowed nights event exclusive as an addition to the scary bats surprise?

(and then maybe still a way to turn it off like some disortion effects can be turned off and so on)
