At the moment, the sanity mechanic is one of the most interesting in the game. But I, in all honesty feel like it could use a great improvement. The thing that bugs me the most about Sanity is that being insane doesn't have that many effects. Therefore, I would suggest adding these concepts to being insane: -Trees, Rocks and other harvestable resources would scream or yell in pain as you gather them or break them down. -Tools and Weapons in your hand would talk to you and say rather discouraging and possibly bloodthirsty things -Animals would talk, react to being hit and hitting you. The more insane you are, the more would they speak. -The appearance of said animals would change as well, possibly having Beardbirds and Shaved Beefaloes that gain their fur as you shave them. -The examination quotes of your characters would get messed up, with letters being scrambled the more you are insane. -The boon skeletons would come to life and start attacking you if you take/took their items. -You can see your reflection in ponds. Should you be insane, your reflection will start resembling Maxwell. Maxwell's reflection will start to look like Wes. -Food will start to run away from you. -Pig Heads and Merm Heads will jump from their sticks and start hopping after you. The heads will return once you get sane. Stats: Health: 100 Damage: 25 These additions would, I think, improve the insane feel a bit and make being insane a tad more challenging.

After opening the Ruins, the nightmare power began to seep out. It corrupted all who touched it, turning them into hideous renditions of their former selves. As far as we know, there is no cure... The Corruption Subject: Draw any creature in the Don't Starve world in a corrupted fashion. Rules: Do not reuse any artwork you may have previously created. (Unposted or unfinished art is okay) Do not create a new creature, you must use one already in-game. Keep on topic! Any art that does not refer to the subject will not be accepted. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED BEFORE NEXT TUESDAY. Any artwork turned in afterwards will not be accepted. Prizes: I honestly have no idea. Suggestions will be considered.

Ohh god no, NOT ME........ The hound was blue. Ravenous. But that wasn't the worst, shapes formed, disappeared, and reformed in the shadows, knowing Wilson wouldn't last long. Run, Wilson, run Then the barking grew and......ceased. Wilson stopped, the wrong choice. The hound barreled through him. Pain. Spreading, GOD HELP! Then, Wilson started laughing. "HA HAA HAAAAAAAAAAA" Far away, someone said It is over, Wilson has reached the brink of sanity. Meanwhile, the hound tore into Wilson. Snap. Crunch. His leg went out from under him. "What happened?" Wilson's mouth tasted the metallic tinge of blood. Owww.... I think I broke a bone "Hello?" I think whoever saved me, also abandoned me. "Anyone?" Shapes moved in the shadows. "Grrahhhh...." One of the creatures growled, I suppose it would be best to light a fire, to lift my spirits. Wilson gathered up some logs and found a piece of flint in his back pocket "C'mon, DANG IT light! LIGHT!" The shadows moved in closer.... Finally, a spark caught, and flames lept into the air, licking the sky and driving the unholy hallucinations back into the shadows. Grumble.Grumble. Wilson looked around for a source of the growling, he looked down and realized it was his stomach. Wilson walked towards a pot that seemed similar to the one you would stew soup in. Inside there was a head floating in greasy blood. "OHHH MY GOD!" Wilson screamed hysterically. Because of him, I am alive, his death was my beginning, I owe it to him to find the cause of his death and avenge him Sprawling on the floor he noticed a slithering track crossing the camp I suppose this track would be a good start. Several hours later, Wilson came across a stack of papers that read, Entry 1 I've figured it out, to escape, I must rescue the Others. Entry 2 Each other is hidden on a different isle, I've figured out the names Wilson is stranded on the isle of EverWinter Willow is stranded on the Strait of Shadows Wendy is stranded in the island of Death's Shadow Wolfgang is stranded on the bay of Illusion Wickerbottom is trapped on the Peninsula of Sorrow Wx49 is trapped in the Land of Fear - Wes Entry 3: I've recovered Wilson! When he awakes we will be one step closer to escape, after we recover everyone we will need to, XXXXXXXXXXXXX The rest of the paper is smeared in blood, "It's a shame he didn't get to list the final step" said Wilson to no one apparent, it would have been REALLY helpful." Then, as if hearing his words something starts forming out of the dark, a shapes disappears and reappears, splitting into 5 segments at the end, forming into a hand, completely dark. Wilson, join the perpetual dark and you shall be granted your wildest dreams Don't trust Maxwell, a voice inside Wilson's head whispers. Wilson, reach out and all your troubles will be relieved Wilson, I don't have much time, this is Wickerbottom speaking, quick run to the hand Puzzled, Wilson listens but still goes ahead and does the task. You will regret this, young one! My daemons, ghouls, and wights are everywhere...... The voice disappates when the hand does. "How are you communicating to me?" I am speaking to you through a Shadow Manipulator, capable of harnessing the nightmarish and demonic energies of the world for magic "MAGIC IS PSEUDOSCIENCE!" Wilson yells in a fit If you believe so, then....turn around. Smash.Smash. "What is that?!?!" Wilson asks, hysteria creeping into his voice. That is a Treeguard.

Wouldnt that be nice? There would be no need to carry few armors and helmets, just the components for it, or maybe some material dedicated for fixing stuff.No?P.S. Also, my camp after 100 days look like scrapheap, becouse theres like 50+ armor/weapon items with >15% health on the ground. What should one do with that stuff?

since the thing perhaps is to eat flowers and not to be afraid -e.e. cummings I am seeing DS in everyday life, now. Here's to hoping my irl sanity isn't a gradual descent into madness.

I've been toying with the idea of giving a feedback after finally finding enough time to play the game again this weekend. So, before the winter update hits us hard, I want to share some thoughts. The game definitely evolved since December, when I started playing, and most of it is in the 'fun' direction, yet is also way too easy to manage, and below I explain why. Keep in mind it's my personal opinion and feedback, not truth I wish to force onto everyone.1. Insanity is way too easy to manage. You can eat some monster meat in the morning, slaughter a few beardlings and then calmly chomp some homemade meals and you're golden. This gives way too much control to the player and such control eliminates the threat element from the insanity. 2. Eating raw meat and fish shouldn't count towards insanity and eating crock pot dishes shouldn't remedy insanity. Sushi is raw fish. Tartar is raw meat. But that's not the only reason. The food counting towards sanity/insanity is the main reason behind point 1. It gives us total control over insanity. Why should this be the case? And why can I go insane and recover as many times during the day as I want to? Woudln't it be harder and harder to crawl from iinsanity back to sanity every time we slip into madness?3. To give some constructive feedback to 1 and 2: the insanity 'recovery items' should be removed (at least to some degree) and the insanity should drop at all times, both at night and during the day (recovery during the day sounds odd to me. You're still trapped and you still have another night to look forward to. If anything that woudl make us go more insane with worry.) Yes, there should be wasy to recover sanity, but not such drastically easy ones like munching a few chicken nuggets MADE OUT OF HONEY AND MONSTER MEAT might I add. Gradual approach of a looming threat is much more stressing than a controlled period of insanity.4. Insanity monsters. I'm very lukewarm about them. On the one hand they're very cool but on the other they're just a cheap death. I'd much prefer them to show up and start following you at sanity 20-30, stick even closer when insanity is approaching and attack when it's at 0 so that I know 0 means monster attack.5. Love the hands that steal fire. Love them.6. Honey is still the ultimate remedy that fixes everything. All 3 meters can be managed with enough honey and a handful of vegetables or monster meat.Tl;dr: Insanity is way too easy to manage in that it's entirely up to the player when he or she gets insane and when to recover from it. Food causing insanity and being a remedy for insanity is bananas and also gives way too much power to the player. It's way too easy to farm beardlings for nightmare fuel by just going insane in the morning and recovering from it by lunchtime or before afternoon tea and scones. So that's my feedback there. Quite eager to hear what the rest of you think about it all.

Ok, so I was looknig at the Insanity! poster, and I looked at Wilson's Forehead, and it had some veins on it. I looked closer, and it was the letters/numbers MS7 or M57. Possibly the Insanity teaser grids again? Possibly used with the numbers/letters found on the MacTusk pic and the teaser grids? Share your ideas/discoveries here!*sorry i can't put a zoomed in picture with his head circled or whatever, i cant figure how. Can someone else do so?

I love how the scripts come uncompiled now, I've been screwing around with some stuff, the only thing that I'm having trouble changing is the drops from plants like grass saplings reeds and berries.
-
Since flowers seem to up your sanity why not a head wreath made of flowers. It helps to keep you from going insane but it rots over time and is less effective (insanity points regen slower as it rots) . If worn while rotten it will decrease your sanity.

Hello there.I couldn't find any posts about this so I might be on my own here; but I'll share this with you anyways.I've enjoyed playing the game just like anyone else and I couldn't wait for the Insanity update to finally come through. But wow.... I just played the game for half an hour and I'm seriously feeling ill now... The graphical effects while going insane make me feel like almost having to vomit and my eyes really hurt. This can't be good, right? There should probably be some kind of warning somewhere in the game for people who might have epilepsy or any other over-sensitivity. I myself have no epilepsy or hypersensitivity of any kind as far as I know but judging by the way I'm feeling now.... I really don't think it's healthy for me to keep playing this game.I would like to hear from other people's perspectives about this topic.Cheers,SSG

Before I get too in to it, I just have to say that I absolutely love this game!I've seen a few things since the recent update and thought I would share them.- I came across a mandrake and tried to pick it...it began to bounce around and beep at me. It did this all night. The next morning it replanted itself and I picked it again. I then had some sort of random/invisible head injury and it was all of a sudden night time again... Confused?- I made the jump into a wormhole and when I came out the other side there were crazy grey lines jumping all over the screen. Shortly followed by my death...lol- On numerous occasions when the sun came up everything went very shaky. - When I reached level 4 in story mode all the rabbits were black and scribbled.- I also keep seeing a lot of invisible monsters that I can attack...but can't seem to kill.- Food seems very sparse! Can't wait to see what you guys do next! Played for 45 hours so far...haven't died of starvation yet!!

Alright, so, in the Insanity trailer thread, Kev mentioned how he "forgot to showcase the lamp that runs on nightmare fuel". After everyone pestered him about it, he mentioned other things he "forgot" to show in the trailer- namey, Beardlings, the dark eyes, and Mr. Skits. Everyone thought he was messing with us.Well, we've found beardlings (They're what becomes of rabbits when you're at full insanity), and the "dark eyes" presumably refer to the very bright, pupil-less eyes that appear near your campfire at 75 sanity or less. So, here's my point- where's Mr. Skits? And what the hell do I look for? Is he a new NPC, akin to Maxwell, or he is an interactive beast, like Otto von Chesterfield?A response from Kevin himself would be appreciated, of course.

I love running around with a torch at night -- seriously. Any character can kill and get a morsel from a sleeping rabbit at night with a torch. But I just like getting the extra explore time in (before I have my ass handed to me.)

How on earth do I make taffy? Is it a crock pot recipe? A drop? I don't get it!
-
has anyone discovered how to get it? i have done this: searched around the world(being insane but only in daytime) killed monsters (the ones that drop monster meat) while being insane, tried to kill crawling horrors [impossible(even with tentacle spike and full armor set plus wolfgang )] , and sleeped while in insane state, if anyone has already discovered how to get nightmare fuel please tell me

Using twigs, a bit of beard hair and some silk, Wilson can now craft spiritual proxies of himself, Twig Dolls. Twig Dolls look similar to a meat effigy but have a twig like body coated in beefalo wool and are about the size of a graveyard item. Making one takes 10% of your health and will also drop your sanity by 20%, Why make one? Well these objects hold a dangerous and terrifying power...Hallucinations will fixate upon these objects instead of you and will attack it until it breaks, upon which it will turn to ash. Even on full sanity when they can't be seen they will still attack them and this can be shown by having the doll thrown around/turn to ash etc.Twig Dolls have absolutely no effect on spiders or normal animals but can buy you valuable time when insane and can be found under the magic department. Now, Discuss!

Last time I checked, when Pumpkin lanterns get destroyed from use, they also destroy the Fireflies used to make them. Fireflies are finite. This is what has discouraged me from using them. I would like to know if this is a bug or intentional. Thanks in advanced
