Does anyone know why where the devs got the inspiration for wigfrids Beefalo skills

Disregarding efficiency in favor of saying "well I can still do the thing I could always do before or could do the same on any other character" and calling me a min-maxer for pointing out that basic day 2 equipment performs substantially better than something that takes more than twenty in-game days at the fastest to achieve

The thing I said about how Warly would be better off getting beefalo perks was simply an example and wasn't even my first choice. I'd actually prefer them on Wormwood (who has even more difficulty healing, still benefits from being able to move giant crops more easily, and has it as a thing for his characterization that he wants to be friends with everyone), but Wormwood didn't get them, so Warly's next down the line for who they'd fit with the best.

That aside, I think I've had enough of you and your cope, so I won't be acknowledging you anymore.

lol… alright I guess I’m coping about enjoying skills that already exist in game then.

On the subject of perks that promote different play styles, though, it did get me thinking about examples that are, in my mind, truly objectively bad. In this case, I mean Wolfgang’s whistle.

My presumption is that the goal is to offer a playstyle where Wolfgang is more of a “leader class” fighter, though if that’s the goal, this comes very short. Since Wolfgang can only hire Pigmen and Bunnymen, this means such a playstyle would revolve around them, but the reason they aren’t popular isn’t due to their damage so much as their cost and sustainability. The best example I know is Bunnymen vs Bee Queen, but the fight is very expensive, between hiring every Bunnyman and equipping them with helmets. Conversely, Wurt and Webber both have thriving leader playstyles due to being more cost-effective and flexible. One thing to note, is that the whistle does work on all followers, not just Wolfgang’s followers, but then you’re straddling the line from leader class to “leader support” class, which is about as niche of a strat as it gets.

Circling back to beefalo skills, the thing of it is, beefalo riding is *already* very popular across the board, so adding a few perks is a nice way to enhance the playstyle for Wigfrid. Meanwhile Wolfgang flounders as a minion leader, as this effectively turns what’s normally a buff (mighty form) into a nerf, since him becoming mighty removes the whistle buff, and just hitting things makes him mighty, so… sideline whistle-blower playstyle, I guess?

So I do think beefalo skills can promote healthy playstyle diversity, but it’s important to note that not all diversity is healthy.

Vikings are more known for boating, but they did ride horses which is at least comparable to beefalo riding. I was hoping for wigfrid to have the ability to use her weapons while riding beefalo, because that's how I imagine vikings to fight on horseback. That would also deal with the weird gameplay choice of giving the high damage character, the beefalo riding perks that inherently limit her damage while mounted. Fact checking myself and viking rode horses but didn't fight on them :wilson_confused:

Didn’t Valkyries though

I'd say they were more like "collectors" / " guardians " of deceased warriors...and their riding is more like "riding up in the sky" and watching the battle / figuring out who are the bravest warriors to guide the fallen to valhalla. But I think that they were SAID to also be active riding warriors (not just horses also other wild animals I think...so it should be fitting her role nevertheless.) But I am not sure, I can only judge from a handful stories / books etc. I have read, and I can't tell how much of this stuff has been influenced by later authors. [in other words: I may be entirely wrong]

I still think the one big mistake they made with that update was giving Wigfrid beefalo-related skills. Her character perks just don't have any synchronicity with beefalo riding.

They wont give the beefalo any of her upsides either.
