Bone Armor and Shield Delay.

Recommended Posts

There is an delay in the Bone Armor's protective shield. It's annoying to put on the armor seconds before being attacked and not have that protection, which doesn't happen with any normal armor.

Please @V2C @Jason fix this delay to give the item immediate protection.

In the video below, at 24 seconds, I have 100% of both bone armor and the simple fact of changing one of them caused my death. But even if I made the switch in approximately 2 seconds I would have died the same way because of that delay.

Bone armor has exactly one second of prep time before it can block a hit. Pretty sure it’s intended.

I personally myself haven’t minded it too much, but I can see how it can be fairly annoying as I have had cases where I swap between bone armors too early and get hit as a result of it.

There is already an intentional 5-second penalty and that is fine. Now being punished for using or changing bone armor doesn't seem reasonable. If the item was not even hit (100%), protection should be immediate. I hope the developers change this.

To avoid confusion I think a good starter would be to show the damn cooldown on the item (in the meantime I have been using this mod). The Bone Armor components are pretty old and should be upgraded to match how items with cooldowns behaves now.

I think the function of this mod is to show the 5 second cooldown. But that's not the problem I'm bringing up in this topic itself. The problem is the ~1 second cooldown for the armor gives you protection after wearing it. This delay should not exist due to use or exchange. That's what I'm asking developers to do.

@V2C @Jason I'm sure it will be an incredible quality of life to give this item instant protection when equipped, maintaining the normal cooldown of 5 seconds for a second protection.

People have hard time understanding what quality of life means. I dont think it should change, time better

It shows the 1 second cooldown when you equip the armor as well, for reference.

You keep pinging them for the same reason.

Does snurtle shell armor (which also absorbs 100% damage) have a 1 second cooldown upon activating it? I don't think so, it protects you right away, and it's a measly snail drop, not even a boss drop. Why should bone armor, the item we obtain from defeating a tough endgame boss, have this additional penalty then? Especially considering it already has another 5 second cooldown after it absorbs a hit. It drops from Ancient Fuelweaver and mimics his ability to protect himself with a shield. Once he switches to the shield phase during the fight, he is invincible without any delays. I once had him go invulnerable at 1 health left. We are supposedly wearing his ribcage and imo it should maintain the property of immediate protection upon equipping. It's currently the only armor in the game that doesn't work right away when equipped (and therefore fails to fulfill its purpose as an armor). The 5 second cooldown is fair though.

If there is a a concern that a player with two bone armors would be just completely invincible with little to no effort, it's already the case even with this additional cooldown. It just doesn't work well as the only armor type against bosses with high attack frequency (or against chained attacks like Frostjaw or Scrappy Werepig).

I wouldn't mind that as long as they make it so bone armor shares cooldown with each other, I almost don't use any of the new post rift body armor because of how much the game incentivizes me to use a post rift head gear +  double bone armor since not only is this combination way better than using a combination involving post rift body armor in most situations but it also costs something that I always have a surplus of and nothing else to do with it which is nightmarefuel.
